Chapter 89: Ch 89: Making Love
The Imperial Bedchamber
The heavy obsidian doors of the Imperial bedchamber sealed shut with a soft, resonant thud. The deafening cheers of the hundred thousand subjects in the Grand Plaza instantly faded into a distant, muffled ocean of sound. Inside the supreme sanctuary of the Grand Palace of Light, the air was completely still and perfectly warm.
Raidan let out a long, slow breath. The absolute, terrifying pressure he had projected across the entire city finally dissolved. The glowing golden ring of the Star Core hovering behind his head dimmed into a soft, ambient light before sinking seamlessly into his shoulder blades.
He was no longer the Verdian Emperor projecting infallible authority to the masses. He was just a man alone with his wife.
Naida turned to face him. She stood near the massive balcony windows overlooking the sprawling, glittering expanse of Olympus. The pale moonlight caught the silver strands of her hair, creating a stark, breathtaking contrast against the deep black void energy of Raidan’s formal suit. The composition of the scene was absolutely flawless. If a master artist were to paint the definitive cover illustration of their new epoch, capturing the exact aesthetic of their triumph, it would be this precise, quiet moment.
"You terrified them," Naida said softly.
"The aristocracy needed a permanent reminder," Raidan replied.
He closed the distance between them.
"They spent ten thousand years treating the lower districts like cattle. I simply showed them that the old rules no longer apply. Valerius raised a lethal spell against a nameless child. In my empire, that crime is paid with immediate erasure."
Naida reached out and rested her delicate hands against his chest. Her touch was incredibly warm, radiating the residual healing magic of her Radiant Saintess class. She slowly unfastened the high collar of his void suit.
"I am not reprimanding you, my Emperor. You protected the weak. You gave the discarded players a purpose. You built a sanctuary where people like Kael can stand proudly instead of begging in the dirt. I have never been more proud to stand beside you."
Raidan felt the tension bleed completely out of his muscles. He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her close. The scent of blooming twilight lilies and sun lotus incense lingered on her skin. He leaned down and kissed her deeply. The kiss held no imperial mandate and no system authority. It was purely human, filled with the raw, unspoken devotion they had forged through the fires of the system apocalypse.
They parted slowly. Raidan rested his forehead against hers.
"We have a lot of work to do tomorrow," Raidan murmured.
He raised his right hand, summoning their newly unified system interface.
The holographic screen materialized between them. It was a beautiful amalgamation of his brilliant gold and her shimmering silver.
[ Faction Status: The Verdian Empire ]
[ Total Population: 142,500 ]
[ Average Faction Level: 14 ]
[ Core Authority: Absolute ]
[ Treasury: 45,000,000 Gold Coins ]
"The progression mechanics of the city will need a complete overhaul," Raidan explained, tracing the glowing text with his finger. "I am going to allocate ten million gold coins to Aaron and Sarah immediately. They need to expand the District 9 forge. Then, I am going to adjust the experience multipliers for the lower districts. The commoners will receive a permanent boost to their leveling speed until they catch up to the baseline of the Vanguard."
Naida rested her head against his shoulder, looking at the floating numbers.
"I want to build academies in the outer rings," she requested softly. "Places where the children from Earth can learn how to control their mana safely without the threat of the monster zones. We can use the acolytes from the Sun God Shrine as instructors. Elder Priest Lumis is absolutely desperate to prove his loyalty to you."
Raidan smiled. "Consider it done. I will issue the mandate in the morning."
He dismissed the system interface with a casual swipe of his hand. The golden light vanished, leaving only the soft illumination of the moon and the flickering candles scattered around the massive, opulent room. Raidan lifted Naida gently into his arms, carrying her toward the center of the bedchamber.
Tonight belonged entirely to them. The politics, the factions, and the endless progression of their empire could wait until the sun decided to rise.
The Null Anomaly
Two hours later, the atmosphere in the Imperial bedchamber shifted.
It was not a sudden drop in temperature. It was not a loud noise. It was a subtle, creeping wrongness that violated the absolute perfection of the room.
Raidan was lying on his back, his eyes closed. Naida was resting peacefully against his chest, her breathing slow and rhythmic. Her silver halo was completely inactive, granting her the deep, restorative sleep she desperately needed.
Raidan opened his eyes.
He stared at the ceiling. Something was profoundly incorrect.
He looked at the candles burning on the obsidian nightstands. The flames were no longer a warm orange. They had turned a sickening, washed out gray. It was not the color of smoke. It was the color of dead pixels on a broken monitor.
Raidan instantly summoned his system interface. He checked his automated defenses.
[ Imperial Aegis: Active and Stable. ]
[ Threat Detection Radar: Zero Hostile Entities Found. ]
[ Faction Perimeter: Secure. ]
The system reported absolute safety. There were no flashing red warnings. There were no hostility notifications. Olympus was completely peaceful.
But the hair on the back of Raidan’s neck stood perfectly straight. His SSS+ class, the Quest Originator, possessed an innate connection to the underlying code of reality. That connection was currently screaming in absolute agony.
Raidan did not move his body. He activated his Rank D One skill, Ultra Mana Control. He possessed only eighteen points of total mana, but he wielded those points with microscopic perfection. He spread his tiny mana pool out across the entire bedchamber, creating an invisible, incredibly sensitive spiderweb of magical detection.
His mana web touched the walls, the glass balcony doors, and the velvet curtains. Everything felt normal.
Then, his mana web touched the darkest corner of the room near the wardrobe.
The web did not report an object. The web did not report a person. A localized sector of his mana simply vanished. It ceased to exist entirely. There was a void in reality standing ten feet away from his bed.
"Naida," Raidan whispered. His voice was barely a breath, completely devoid of his usual commanding resonance. "Do not open your eyes. Do not move a single muscle."
Naida was a veteran of the apocalypse. She recognized the terrifying absolute seriousness in his tone. She kept her eyes shut and froze completely, her heartbeat accelerating against his chest.
Raidan slowly turned his head toward the corner of the room.
The shadows were detaching from the wall. A humanoid shape was stepping forward. It did not possess a system name hovering above its head. It did not radiate mana. It looked like a walking tear in the fabric of the universe, a silhouette made entirely of gray, shifting static.
The entity raised its arm. A long, jagged blade materialized in its grasp. The weapon was not forged from steel or celestial iron. It was forged from anti system code, designed specifically to bypass the rules of the universe.
The system radar still showed absolutely zero threats.
The entity lunged forward with terrifying, impossible speed.
Raidan did not try to cast a spell. His spatial magic was already glitching and sparking randomly as the entity approached. He relied entirely on his monstrous physical attributes. He possessed over nine hundred points in his Attack stat and nearly eight hundred in Agility.
Raidan violently pushed Naida away, rolling off the opposite side of the massive bed.
The static blade sliced downward, completely missing Naida. It tore through the heavy silk mattress as if it were water. Raidan twisted his body, bringing his right arm up to block the follow up strike.
The Imperial Aegis, the absolute defense that had effortlessly crushed the High Acolyte’s solar magic, did not even activate. The system could not defend against something it could not register.
The static blade sliced deep into Raidan’s forearm.
Searing, absolute agony flared through his nerves. It was a cold, digital pain. Crimson blood sprayed across the pristine white sheets. It was the very first time Raidan had bled since arriving in Olympus.
"Raidan!" Naida screamed, her eyes snapping open.
She saw the gray anomaly standing over the ruined bed. She did not hesitate. She instantly summoned the full, terrifying might of her Radiant Saintess class.
[ Skill Activated: Supreme Radiant Purge. ]
A blinding, explosive wave of pure, concentrated silver light erupted from Naida’s body. The light was not designed to heal. It was designed to completely obliterate corruption.
The wave of silver magic slammed into the gray anomaly.
The entity shrieked. The sound was mechanical and horrific, like grinding gears and screaming metal. The pure divine light interacted violently with the static code, forcing the anomaly to anchor itself into physical reality. The shifting gray silhouette collapsed, revealing a tall, gaunt figure clad in dull, featureless armor. The creature had absolutely no facial features, only a smooth, pale dome where a face should be.
Now that the entity possessed a physical form, Raidan could touch it.
