Chapter 114: Oh shit
Ren arrived at the edge of the forest. He looked at the town ahead and could tell that it had gone really bad.
"Seems we might be too late," he said.
"Thought we were not here to save," Riker stated.
Smack!
Ezra smacked the back of his head again.
"Ow, what did I do now?"
"We need some part of the town to exist if we are going to negotiate with the town. If everyone died, what would be the point?" she asked him.
"Ohhh, that makes sense," Riker said while scratching the back of his head.
"What do we do now, Master?" Remu asked.
"We get closer and see," Ren replied. He looked at Luna, who was standing beside him.
"Luna, you stick with Ragna." He looked at Ragna. "Defend her at all costs."
Ragna nodded.
"These spiders might be unpredictable. Normally, I would say save the humans that they have taken control of, but we can’t do that now, so kill them as fast as you can and get their pain over with."
Everyone nodded and moved out fast. Silas transformed back to his wolf form and rushed in while Remu, Riker, and Ezra shot into the air to take out targets from above.
Luna smiled at Ren and then turned to Ragna, who lifted her off the ground and placed her on his shoulder before charging in.
Ren stood there alone after they all moved.
"I have a bad feeling this is only the start of what Ophelia is doing. I can’t act too rashly yet if I don’t know the full details. I’m sure that someone who has lived for three hundred years has, for sure, put more detail into their plan than they let off."
He pushed the thought aside for now. He needed to get into the town and find the Baron.
"Hope the Baron does not mind us doing a little bit of helping. If we show our mettle, we can get them to open their pockets easier." He smiled while he walked towards the town.
"What do I even ask for when I get to meet the dude? Hmmm... connections? Business? Oh, seeds. I want to have a farm for sure."
He spoke to himself while he walked. After crossing the halfway distance, he saw a guard rushing his way with spider legs sprouting from his back and saliva pouring from its mouth.
"So this is what they look like. Nasty. Why would she even want this?"
The guard attacked with the spider legs fast, two coming in from above. Ren moved back and evaded it before stepping to the side and grabbing one of the legs. He snapped it off like a twig.
"Hmmm, this looks really crazy. Mutated spider legs." He observed the leg while the infected turned to attack him. Ren swung down with the leg right into the head of the infected.
The infected hit the ground hard, but it was not dead yet.
"Can I save the person inside?" Ren wondered, but before he could do that, he noticed that the back of the guard’s neck had been cleanly sliced.
"They killed him before they took over the body. Sigh." Since that was the case, there was no need for him to care. He pulled out Soul Water and went for a stab that penetrated into the core of the spider as well.

"I have a feeling that these versions of spiders are far weaker than the one that I fought first."
He kept walking after that. An adventurer came in from the side. She pulled her staff forward and began firing ice lances at him. Ren moved fast, his blade cutting through every ice lance while he closed the distance between them.
When he was too close, she swung her staff. He blocked the attack with his hand and the staff snapped. He grabbed the broken part mid-air and hurled it at her at full force, knocking her back a few feet.
He dashed before she could react, slashing. His sword morphed and extended, wrapping around her, and as he pulled back, he slashed into her from all around until she was reduced to large chunks of flesh on the ground.

"There is still quite a bit more."
He looked ahead and saw a lot of them rushing his way, and this time they were attacking with the spiders as well.
"I think it’s time we capture one of these spiders."
He dashed in fast with his sword in his hand. The frost one got in range and lunged at Ren. Ren jumped, placing his hand on the shoulder of the infected as he flipped over and, at the same time, slashed, ripping the infected in half.

His feet barely touched the ground before another was swinging a sword at him. Ren pulled back while stepping to the side at the same time. He pushed in for a slash and cut the infected right in half.
A spider took the opportunity to leap from behind and try to bite Ren. He hardened the scales on his back, and when the spider bit in, it could not get through at all.
Ren continued cleaving through the infected and spiders until the floor was littered with their corpses.
In his hand was one of the spiders that he had caught bare-handed and refused to let go, even after it struggled.
"That should be enough for now."
He looked ahead. The town was not too far off, but as he closed in, an infected arrived. This one looked completely human with no growth coming from its body.
The figure held a sword in one hand and had its head down, staring at the ground.
"This one seems stronger," Ren commented. He could feel the aura surrounding this infected, and he was sure.
The infected raised its head and looked at Ren, allowing Ren to see its clear face.
"Oh shit," Ren commented.
