Chapter 134: Young Count
The mage chose to join the fray as well. She lifted her staff and pointed it at Ren, wanting to take him down and free up the dual wielder, but as her staff left the ground and pointed forward, a spear came swinging and slammed into the staff, pushing it to the side. The spell shot out and slammed into the mountain, causing an explosion and multiple rocks to fall.
The mage gritted her teeth. She took a step back in an attempt to gather herself and cast again, but Ezra was no one to allow that. She flapped her wings and closed the distance as fast as she could, the tip of her spear already engulfed in flames. The eyes of the mage tracked to the flame. She let go of her staff with one hand, a blue glow formed on her palm as she swung her hand toward the incoming spear.
Ice formed from the palm and slammed into the flame of the spear. She managed to deflect the spear and quench the flames. Her chance had shown itself. She moved her staff forward and shot a blast at point-blank range, sure that Ezra would not be able to block the attack.
The blast slammed into Ezra’s chest and threw her back a few feet. She hurled her spear at the same time. The mage created a thin ice wall to block, the spear hit the ice and exploded after. The force hurled the mage back.
Ezra was unharmed, though, as the blast that had hit her was stopped because she had used metal manipulation to place a sheet in front of her chest and stop the attack from damaging her badly. The same could not be said for the mage. She spat out a bit of blood as she got to her feet, her expression shifted into something far more vicious.
She lifted her staff off the ground and gritted her teeth as she drove it down into the ground with all her might. The staff slammed into the ground, and blue lines formed from it in a spiderweb spiral, travelling fast. Every few meters, a large ice lance shot out of the ground to impale whatever was there.
Ezra saw the attack and flew into the air. She was safe there, or so she thought. The mage seemed to have accounted for the fact that Ezra could fly, and so she pointed her staff into the air and fired, trying to get her in the air. Ezra reacted by creating a sheet of metal that blocked every attack. Explosions ripped through the air.
After the mage finished her barrage, Ezra leaned back with all she had, her spear crackled with intense flames as she then hurled it down with all her might. One spear travelled extremely fast, leaving a trail behind as it moved. The mage moved back as fast as she could, even though it was not enough. The spear slammed into the ground, and a massive explosion ripped through the air, throwing the mage back. She hit her back hard against a pointed rock, the sharp pain paralyzed her for a moment on the ground.
Ezra flew down and walked to her spear. She wrapped her hand around it and pulled the spear from the ground. Her eyes then moved to the mage. She walked towards her in heavy and steady steps. When she was about to reach the mage, the sound of the carriage door opening reached the ears of everyone. They all paused their fight to turn and look.
A man in a full hunter suit walked out first. He was taller and in his middle age, with slicked-back black hair and the kind of face that was handsome and still struck fear in the hearts of all those that were around.
He held open the carriage door with one hand tucked behind his back. The count walked out, and it was safe to say that he was not what Ren expected. He was a handsome young man in his early thirties, with blonde hair and deep blue eyes. He was as tall as the butler, with a face that was cute and handsome all at the same time.
He looked elegant as he stepped out. He looked around a few times and then walked away from the carriage fully.
"Count," the dual wielder called out, not expecting to see the count step out of the carriage.
The count raised his hand to silence the dual wielder. He drew a deep yet calm breath and then spoke. "Since it seems everyone wants a piece of me today, how about we drop the blades and have a talk like civilized people?" he spoke calmly with a deep and smooth voice.
’For some reason, this dude irks me out more. I kinda wanted him to be an old fart. I would have felt better dealing with that idiot, not he is some hotshot that looks like a supermodel. Tch.’
"Brave of you to say that, Count, knowing that I want your life," the archer spoke suddenly. He looked ready to pounce at the slightest chance that he got.
"You are a mercenary, right? Not a bandit. These other men that have all lost their lives are bandits, while you are a mercenary," the count spoke.
"You managed to influence a small bandit group so that they could take the count, while your mission was never that. You used them to get to me because your mission is to kill me.
I am guessing my elder brother William is the one that has put you up to this. Tch, he is still hung up on the fact that I took over after father.
Either way, throw away that plan you have. It would be far too impossible for you to kill me. You would have no way to get to me. Not to underestimate your skill, but my brother underestimates my protection," the count spoke, analyzing everything very easily and smoothly.
