Chapter 89: Figure in the fog
Ren got closer to the mountain, and the closer he got, the more difficult it became. He faced more and more earth dragons. His breathing was heavy at this point.
"Huff, huff."
Ren looked up. He expected that the wyverns would be all he faced today, but that was not what he saw. Instead, he saw dragons made of pure bones, with green flames in their hearts and eyes.
Undead dragons.
"You have to be joking with me," Ren muttered.
Each of the dragons was roughly around the same size as him, and they blocked the path to the mountain along with all the wyverns that were there.
Ren gritted his teeth. If he was going to make it out of here, he knew that he needed to pull out his best at the moment and give it his all.
"If I want to get through this, I have to use Borrowed Might, but first I have to take one down and consume it."
He looked at the first wyvern that was close. It was time for him to finally use the skill that he had been keeping in his back pocket for so long.
The first few wyverns dove down fast, coming in to attack Ren.
He gritted his teeth, pulled both hands back, and unleashed Rendering Claw as fast as he could. The claws slashed through the air, hitting the first three wyverns head-on, slashing deep into their bodies and taking them down fast.
This caused all the wyverns and undead dragons in the area to turn and head his way.
"Have to move fast."
He bit into the first one quickly, ripping flesh right out of the wyvern’s side. The moment he did, he used Borrowed Might, using it to stack the stats of the wyvern onto himself.
With Borrowed Might, he felt his stats increase. Though the stats of the wyvern were nothing to write home about, he could still stack them. He bit into the next and then the next, feeling the strength stack up.
When he was done, he wiped his mouth and shot into the air. Some of the wyverns and dragons locked onto him and unleashed their flame breath attacks, a mix of orange flames and green flames from the undead dragons.
It created a beautiful vortex of flames. Ren attacked with Chaos Flames. It slammed into the mix of flames and created a massive flash on collision.
The streams of flames from both sides held for seconds. Ren refused to allow himself to lose when it came to dragon breath.
An undead dragon flanked him from the side, coming in fast from the corner. Its flaming green eyes locked onto him. It generated flames from the core in its chest and attacked with a powerful compressed breath.
Ren saw it coming from his peripheral vision. He gritted his teeth.
"Flanking me won’t work, you large sack of bones."
He raised his hand and pointed at the attack. Lightning started crackling around his hand as he unleashed the attack. The lightning ripped through the air and slammed into the flame breath.
BOOM!
The collision shook the air, but his attack was not able to stop the dragon’s breath. It came through and rushed at him.
Without a choice, he shot into the air, evading both attacks completely.
"These dragons have stronger flame breaths than the wyverns. I can’t take them down with flame attacks, but that does not mean I don’t have other means."
He watched as they approached him, raised a hand into the air, and formed hundreds of spheres, unleashing the attack like rain. It was a full-on bombardment in the air, but he knew that there was no way it would end this way because they were not slow like the earth dragons. He was sure that they could dodge the attacks better.
He lunged forward as well while they struggled to dodge all the attacks. He unleashed a close-range Rendering Claw and cleaved the head of a wyvern clean off. He grabbed the head and took a bite, adding to his stacked strength.
He tore through their ranks fast, blasting through undead dragons and ripping into wyverns before eating them, growing stronger temporarily.
An undead dragon attacked with a flame breath. Ren tanked it with Iron Scale before landing an attack on its head, cracking its skull. He proceeded to grab the head and yank it along with its spinal cord.
Ren used the massive spinal whip and lashed it around, slamming into wyverns and undead dragons alike. Each hit carried an explosive force that broke bones and caused massive wounds on their bodies.
The spinal whip shattered from the force of using it. He hurled the head at an undead dragon and shattered it, causing the undead to fall to the ground, while using a gravity attack on the last wyverns, sending them crashing into the ground and bombarding them with massive bolts of lightning that finished the kill.
Ren flew in the air while breathing heavily. He managed to tackle each of them and ensure his survival, and even then, he could tell that he was not done yet.
To conserve energy, he flew back down, looking at the mountain, and then he kept walking, each step bringing him closer to it.
There was a thick fog surrounding the mountain, the type you saw in a scary movie, and it sent chills down your spine. The deeper he walked into the fog, the more eerie it felt.
Soon, he noticed something, a figure standing there, humanoid.
’Something is there. What is it? Tch, I’m spent already. Another fight will drive me crazy.’
He pushed on, and soon enough the figure became clear. A tall seven-foot man, decked in full black armour with two large swords on his back. He had grey hair that flowed down his back beautifully. It framed his elderly face, managing to show strength and age.
He had dragon wings on his back as well as a tail that curled on the ground. His dragon-like eyes locked onto Aren.
