Chapter 141: Mutant spider
The smile on Ren’s face was not because he was happy. It was a smile that simply meant he had had enough of being toyed with by beings that were lesser than him. He was a dragon and a primordial one at that. The likes of Liam did not have a place to stand before him, and yet he did and was coming against him now.
"I think I have allowed this whole game to go on for too long," Ren said and raised his hand. Purple energy ripped through the floor, and he tore it open. Rocks were ripped out of the ground and floated around him and Liam. Each one was the size of a grown man.
"Let me show you how I managed to survive, by dominating."
As Ren said those words, he unleashed all the rocks. They came down at Liam at the same time. The mage and dual wielder rushed in fast to intercept, their blades and staffs out to attack, only for Ren to use a pillar of gravity to slam into them, pushing their bodies hard into the ground and ensuring that they were not able to move a single muscle.
Liam moved fast, his hands touched any rock that was close, and exploded it, but more came in fast, and soon he could not stop it all. The dust from each exploding one covered his eyes, and by the time the rock became visible, it had become too late. The rock slammed into Liam and hurled him back, slamming him into multiple trees at a time.
Liam gritted his teeth, pulled both his hands in, and planted them on the rock. It exploded and finally allowed him to be free. He slammed into the ground and rolled for a few meters before finally stopping.
The mage and dual wielder struggled to get on their feet, but the more they got up, the more the gravity increased and pressed hard against them. Both of them were skilled and in the fifth star in their respective realms, and yet they were incapable of moving. It showed them the gap that existed between them and Ren.
Liam groaned in pain and got to his feet. He looked up and saw Ren walking toward him with steady steps. His face was blank. The usual happy look had vanished.
"You seem exhausted already, Count. Are you sure you can go on?" Ren asked as he raised his hand into the air. Multiple energy spheres formed in the air.
Liam looked at them, his eyes trembling with shock. He never expected it to turn like this. He knew that Ren was powerful, but to compare to him that easily and then proceed to go beyond was crazy.
"Count Liam, have you had enough? Or should I complete what I have started?"
Liam froze. He wanted to keep going and show his dominance, but he knew that he was going to lose if he went into this. He could tell that Ren was nowhere near his full strength. Liam had a lot to show and more strength to unleash, but he knew it was nowhere compared to what Ren could unleash.
He finally dropped his hands, giving up. He looked at Ren with eyes that said it all. He was not okay with the outcome, but he knew he had to ensure his survival for now.
When Ren saw that he had given up, he stopped all the attack, removing the gravity from the two that were on the ground. They got up and got into their stance, still eager to fight.
Suddenly, an explosion came from the town.
All of them turned to look at it.
Something had definitely gone wrong.
Liam looked at the dual wielder and the mage. "Let’s go," he said quickly, and the two of them started running toward the town.
Ren did not have the time to wait.
He pulled them up, his body transforming into his dragon form. His tail moved, picking all of them up and tossing them onto his back.
With one large flap of his wings, Ren shot into the air, flying toward the town. Within seconds, they were above it.
Looking down, they saw the problem.
One spider had become massive. Its body was larger than the others, and a magical buff spread from it, strengthening the other spiders and pushing them forward.
The group Ren had left there was now fighting against a huge horde of spiders.
"This does not look good," Ren said as he looked down.
"Yeah, there’s no way this can be covered up anymore," Liam responded.
"You were planning to cover it up?" Ren asked.
"Well, that is what politics is. Keep it under wraps until it is dealt with. No one wants the public to know something like this is happening."
"Fair," Ren replied, understanding where they were coming from.
He looked down at the battlefield.
"Head down, fight as much as you can. We’ll discuss everything else after," Ren said.
He then flew down toward the town.
When they were close enough, Liam, the mage, and the dual wielder leaped off his back.
Ren banked upward, gaining distance from them as he looked down while curving through the air.
His eyes remained on the battlefield.
He thought about using his flames to attack.
But his own people were down there, and using his flames would be too dangerous.
So he decided to do something else.
Ren transformed back into his human form.
Purple lightning crackled around his body, energy covering him as he descended toward the ground.
He slammed down toward the spider.
A massive shield appeared before it, an invisible barrier that tried to block his attack.
Ren’s force continued forward.
Cracks spread across the barrier.
The invisible force field began breaking apart under the pressure.
Then it shattered.
Ren’s fist came down first, striking the back of the massive spider with explosive force.
The impact tore through its body, ripping it to shreds.
