Chapter 2633: Gradually Winning Her Over (8)
"..."
Upon hearing this, Dan Tingye’s body stiffened. He looked at her fixedly, his thin lips tightly pressed together, without speaking.
He was well aware whether her book was lost or not. He just hadn’t expected that because of him, she had been bullied, yet she didn’t plan to tell him. Instead, she casually borrowed notes from him again.
She no longer depended on him like she did as a child. He should be happy about that, but there was an inexplicable sense of loss in his heart.
"Tingye, I promise I won’t be so careless next time, I..."
"I got it." Dan Tingye’s eyes flickered slightly. He lowered his gaze and leaned back against the car seat, closing his eyes to rest.
He didn’t dare to look at her, afraid that when he saw her gaze, there would be no more attachment...
"Screech—"
The car came to a steady stop.
Yao respectfully turned his head and reminded, "Young Master, we’ve arrived."
"You go in first, I have some things to deal with." Dan Tingye slowly opened his eyes, glanced at Meimei beside him, and spoke gently.
Meimei immediately nodded obediently, opened the car door, and walked towards the campus.
It wasn’t until her figure disappeared that Dan Tingye collected his gaze and looked at Yao in the driver’s seat.
"Young Master, it’s all been investigated. Those girls who are causing trouble are your admirers. They approached Miss Meimei because she became your deskmate." Yao paused, then continued.
"Actually, they are just being jealous. The school has a strict ethos; they shouldn’t dare to hurt anyone."
"Shouldn’t?" Dan Tingye’s eyes narrowed, reflecting a dark light.
Yao immediately felt a chill down his spine and hastily replied, "I will head to the guidance office right away. I assure you such an incident will not happen again!"
Dan Tingye gave him a glance, pushed the car door open, stepped out with his long legs, and walked towards the direction of the classroom.
Upon entering the classroom, he saw Meimei standing in front of their seats, biting her lip, lost in thought.
Seeing her anxious little face, Dan Tingye clenched his palm and approached her side.
Just as he was about to ask what was wrong, he heard Meimei’s soft voice.
"Tingye, do you like having a deskmate?"
"..."
So she’s standing there without sitting down just to ask him this?
Was it because of what those girls said yesterday, that she no longer wanted to be his deskmate?
What did he mean to her now, anyway?
Someone she could just give up on because of a few words from others?
An unidentifiable anger suddenly surged up in Dan Tingye’s heart with nowhere to vent, so he only coldly stared at her.
Without getting his response, Meimei furrowed her brows and spoke again softly.
"I heard you’ve never had a deskmate before. Now that I’m suddenly sitting beside you, would you find it uncomfortable? I’m worried it might affect your studies, though I really enjoy sitting with you..."
Meimei kept her head down, speaking earnestly, completely unaware of Dan Tingye’s quickly changing expression.
He looked at her unexpectedly, his eyes filled with indescribable agitation.
His mood was like a roller coaster, soaring from the depths to the skies in an instant.
She wasn’t trying to distance herself because she was scared but was worried he wouldn’t be comfortable.
She said she liked sitting with him.
Suddenly, Dan Tingye raised his hand and gripped her wrist, almost unable to control the urge to pull her into his arms. Faced with her stunned eyes and the surrounding gazes, he slowly released his grip.
His dark eyes fixed on hers, he said slowly and clearly, "I really like having you as my deskmate. Besides, I have to tutor you, so you can only sit with me."
