4 Yandere Think With Me

Chapter 8: Digital Archive

The university library was completely deserted. Due to the tech-grid failure Chloe had triggered during the gala, the automated turnstiles at the entrance stood wide open, their digital screens flashing a dull, static gray. I walked through the towering aisles of bookshelves, my footsteps making no sound against the heavy carpet.

I didn’t rush. My posture remained relaxed and steady. To anyone else, I was just a student looking for a quiet place to read while the campus security sorted out the network glitch.

But my absolute sensory control was telling a different story. The ambient air pressure inside the building was shifting. The faint, mechanical hum of the central ventilation system had completely died down, and the automated magnetic locks on the heavy fire doors behind me clicked into place with a synchronized, heavy thud.

I stopped in front of the restricted digital archive section at the back of the third floor. The heavy glass door, which usually required a faculty biometric scan, slid open automatically before I could even reach for my student ID.

"Come inside, Ren," Chloe’s voice drifted from a small security speaker mounted above the frame, her tone flat, monotone, and entirely unbothered. "The local network cameras on this floor have been set to a thirty-second loop. No one can see us."

I walked into the room. The space was cool, filled with rows of black server racks blinking with pale green and blue neon indicators.

Sitting in a swiveling leather chair in front of a massive, multi-monitor terminal was Chloe Valentine. Her long, silver hair cascaded over her shoulders, framing a pale, delicate face that remained completely fixed on her glowing screens. Her fingers moved across her mechanical keyboard with a speed that normal human eyes couldn’t follow.

She wasn’t using a mask today. She didn’t need one. We were in a sealed room, completely cut off from the rest of the campus.

"You blocked my limousine override this morning," Chloe said, not looking up from her monitors as the glass door slid closed behind me, locking with a final electronic hiss. "Aria’s security team spent forty minutes trying to reboot her vehicle’s mainframe. It was... satisfying to watch."

"We made a deal, Chloe," I said, walking toward the center of the room, keeping my tone perfectly calm and level. I leaned casually against the edge of a server console. "You stop the aggressive tracking, and I stay within your digital sight. Turning a luxury sedan into a high-speed projectile wasn’t part of the agreement."

"I was securing the asset," Chloe replied, her fingers stopping instantly over the keys. She slowly turned her chair around, her crimson eyes locking directly onto mine with an intensity that could make a seasoned mercenary freeze. There was no warmth in her gaze, only a dark, bottomless fixation. "The blonde underclassman carries an elite weapon. The Hayashi girl has twenty assassins positioned outside your residential sector. If they connect your physical movements to the masked shadow, they will use force to isolate you, Ren. I am the only one who can keep you invisible."

I met her sharp gaze without a single flicker in my pulse. "I don’t need to be kept invisible. I just need to finish my finance."

A faint, sharp smile touched Chloe’s pale lips, though her eyes remained terrifyingly cold. She stood up from her chair, her small frame moving slowly until she was standing just a foot away from me. The scent of ozone and chilled server coolant rolled off her clothes.

"You’re still playing the student," she whispered, reaching out to touch the screen of my phone, which was sitting on the console next to my hand. The display instantly lit up, bypassing my code to show a live, high-definition camera feed of Haruto Kirishima sitting on a bench outside, looking completely lost. "Look at him, Ren. That is the boy you created to be the hero of this story. He is weak. He doesn’t even know his own sister hasn’t returned home. Why did you use your absolute strength to save us, only to let a puppet take the credit?"

I kept my face perfectly blank, relying on my internal control to keep my muscles completely relaxed. Because I wanted a quiet life, Chloe. I wanted to watch my story play out from the audience row, not from the stage.

"Haruto is exactly where he needs to be," I said smoothly. "And my strength is none of your concern."

"It is my concern," Chloe murmured, her hand moving from my phone to lightly touch the fabric over my chest, right over my heart. Her fingers were ice-cold. "I ran the kinetic data from the harbor incident. The force required to bend that vault door without a weapon matches the density of a localized explosion. Your body is a masterpiece of hidden power, Ren. And I am the only one who has the algorithms to analyze it. You belong in my database. Nowhere else."

Before I could answer her, a dull, heavy vibration rattled the floorboards beneath our feet.

The green and blue indicators on the server racks suddenly flickered, turning into a bright, warning crimson. The primary monitor on Chloe’s desk flashed a massive red alert: [ EXTERNAL PHYSICAL BREACH DETECTED - SECTOR 3 ]

"The digital locks won’t hold them for long, Valentine-san," a calm, melodic voice drifted from the ventilation shaft above our heads.

A vent panel dropped silently to the floor, and Kaguya Hayashi descended gracefully into the room, landing on her feet without making a single sound against the linoleum. Her midnight-black hair and straight bangs were pristine, her hands covered in her signature leather gloves as her crimson eyes locked onto Chloe’s hand resting on my chest.

"The Hayashi shadow clan doesn’t need data keys to break a room," Kaguya said, her voice a quiet, chilling whisper that made the ambient temperature in the archive drop instantly. "The corporate princess’s guards are already clearing the library’s main hall. If we do not move now, this entire building will be surrounded by corporate militia."

"She won’t touch him," Chloe said, her voice dropping an octave as she stepped back toward her terminal, her fingers flying over a secondary macro pad.

Instantly, the library’s automated fire suppression doors began to drop throughout the hallway outside, cutting off the main staircase.

I stood between the silver-haired hacker and the black-haired assassin, my phone vibrating once more in my palm. I flipped it open to see a direct message from the university’s main administrative line—forced through by Aria’s corporate office.

Aria: [The library building is currently undergoing a mandatory safety evaluation, Treasurer Kurogane. My personal detail is entering the third floor now. Do not let the tech club girls delay your finance appointment.]

And right outside the massive reinforced glass window of the archive room, I could see Mia Asakura walking across the empty courtyard below, her blonde twin tails swaying as she casually swung her sports bag, her dark, lifeless pupils fixed directly on the third-floor window structure.

All four of them were closing the net around the archive room at the exact same time, completely ignoring the original protagonist, the university rules, and the rest of the world. The truce from the gala was already fracturing under the weight of their growing, volatile obsession.

I let out a slow, quiet breath, my fingers tightening around the leather strap of my bag. My hidden, god-like physical power could easily shatter the reinforced glass window, blow through the server racks, and carry me out of the university sector at supersonic speed before any of their sensors or blades could touch me. I had all the strength in the world to break their traps.

But as Kaguya coiled her body into a lethal martial arts stance, Chloe’s fingers prepared to override the city’s power grid, and Aria’s guards began battering against the outer fire doors, I realized that running would only turn the campus into a full-scale war zone. They didn’t want to break the novel; they wanted to claim the creator who had saved them, and every single room I entered was becoming their next cage.

"Turn off the security overrides, Chloe," I said, my voice cold, natural, and entirely unbothered as I stepped between them, my hidden presence slightly bleeding out to steady the room. "Open the doors. We’re going to finish this finance meeting before the security detail breaks the equipment."

The two girls froze, the crimson warnings on the monitors pausing as my absolute calm cut through the high-tension room. The script had been completely overwritten, and my survival along the main path of this corrupted novel was just getting harder by the minute.
