48 Hours a Day

Chapter 138: Finally We Meet

Charleston is destined to be uneasy tonight.

Only half an hour ago, a hotel suddenly caught fire, and the nearby residents joined forces to extinguish the fire, but before there was time to celebrate, another gunshot was heard.

A shell flew into the city with its walls, smashing through the roof of a civilian house, and this was just the beginning, and then more shells fell on the city walls, at which point the vast majority of the city was forced to believe that a French fleet had suddenly arrived, but you know that the Royal Navy's pride, the Scarborough, was still docked in Charleston's harbour.

Without first addressing this greatest threat, the other party intends to remove the artillery directly from the walls of the city, which undoubtedly comes at a heavy cost.

Soon afterwards, however, unsuspecting residents of the city received even more alarming news - it was not someone else who attacked Charleston, but the Royal Scarborough in the harbor.

The naval giant ship, which had been acting as the guardian of the colony, suddenly lit its fangs tonight and launched shelling of Charleston without warning. The turrets on the walls were the focus of attention, with the first round of attacks down and at least nearly half of the turrets destroyed.

At this time, the city's guards suddenly felt alarmed and began to panic to mobilize personnel in an attempt to organize a counterattack, but immediately after the second round of attacks had fallen, the walls of the city were immediately overturned.

Not that colonies have not been attacked in the past, but most of them have traces to follow. If you see enemy ships far away, you will be warned and prepared. Tonight's attack was too sudden. Until now, the commanders of the city do not know why Scarborough would attack their own people like crazy.

The fire lit up the night sky tonight, and after five rounds, the city walls on the southeast coast of Charleston collapsed by a third, and only a few pieces of artillery shells landed in front of Queen Anne's Revenge, and the splash of water didn't even wet the hull.

Queen Anne's Revenge then took a short break and waited for the cannon tube to cool down, when Charleston's naval defenses were essentially destroyed and could no longer pose any effective threat, so ten minutes later the pirates on board started shooting freely at the city as planned.

A shell crossed the already ruined walls of the city and fell into the streets, shops and houses. The crowd suddenly panicked and began to flee.

The location of the Governor's Palace and the coastline are quite a distance from each other and have not been affected for the time being, but the nobility and businessmen inside are also very ugly. They are all people with faces in the new continent who came to the Governor's Palace for the wedding, and this happened unexpectedly.

Almost twenty minutes after the incident, no one has been able to find out why the Scarborough attack took place. People are worried about their shops and mansions in the city. They want to rush back immediately and worry about the danger on the road. Now the city has become a mess. There are only forty guards on the Governor's side, which is considered the safest place.

Governor Watts of Charleston, who was directing the defensive work of the Governor's Palace on the second floor, had been informed of the obsolescence of the guns, but he wondered whether the enemy had not immediately organized a landing because of a shortage of personnel, but Watts had not taken it lightly.

Anyone else downstairs, but his own family upstairs and Belomont, the big man, would certainly not let him go in the White Hall if something went wrong in his territory, so he sent another 20 guards to the garrison.

He was just a little relieved after all of this.

Opposite Belomont has always seemed calm, and comforted Watt, “Don't worry, the biggest planters in the interior are my friends, they have a lot of private armaments there, I've sent people to find them, I can borrow 200 people from them to help you through this crisis. ”

Watts said, "Great, I've just arrived in the New World, I'm not familiar with a lot of things, and I'll need your help in the future. I've heard that Boston is growing rapidly under your rule, especially with regard to piracy. Your iron blood position was unanimously well received by the military, and when I left London, everyone was talking about your achievements. ”

Belomont smiled with tea, which was indeed his proudest thing.

Watt wanted to say something else, but then a guard knocked on the doorway, “Governor, the reinforcements from the garrison are here, and they're downstairs. ”

Watts stunned, “Someone's here. So soon? I'll go down first. ”

After he complained to Watt and went downstairs, he did see twenty soldiers who had just arrived outside the gate, but the officer in charge looked a little cheeky.

Watt raised his suspicions, frowned, “What's your name, sir? I've never seen you before. ”

The officer grinned, "You've heard of my officer, Edward Titch, but people seem to prefer to call him Blackbeard. ”

When he finished, he pulled a short pistol from his waist and pulled the trigger against Watt, just one step away.

The shooting surprised the people in the lobby. When they saw the Governor falling on the stairs, some female guests couldn't help but scream, and the situation of the male guests was no better. No one came to the wedding without a weapon, fisted naked, and faced a group of soldiers armed to the teeth. Everyone left with nothing but fear and despair.

Good thing at this point, the Governor's office escort arrived, and an exchange of fire broke out with the group of soldiers whose whereabouts were unknown, and the two sides were downstairs in heavy fighting.

And almost at the same time, the door to the second floor study was pushed open, and two guards dressed up walked in, to the uncertain Belomont Road, “Governor Watt found out that the Scarborough had landed in the hands of pirates who pretended the Navy had launched an attack on Charleston, and you were the target. ”

“Me?” Belomont had an accident.

“It's urgent now that they've killed downstairs and will be up shortly, Governor Watt has asked us to move you away immediately.” Speaking of which, the two guards erected Belmont's arms.

“Wait, my daughter!” Belomont called.

“The sooner you get out of here, the safer the people in this room will be, the carriage is ready and we will leave through the back door.” After the two guards had finished, the others in the house were holding their heads and some dizzy Belomont was walking down the stairs.

The latter saw the old wagon outside the rear finally realizing it was wrong and trying to fight back, but it was too late, and two guards disguised as pirates stopped courting him and stuffed him in the wagon in a brutal manner.

Belomont knew he wanted to jump off the door when he was in the most danger, but at this point an army knife was placed around his neck.

A low voice rang in his ear, "Mr. Belomont, we have finally met. ”
