48 Hours a Day

Chapter 253: Dust Settling

Following the recent events on the island, six of Nassau's most powerful pirates, led by Black Prince Sam, challenged a previously uninvited Spanish treasure ship, which successfully sank each other after a fierce battle, and was then ambushed by the navy, culminating in the successful return of only the Cold Crow to Nassau with most of its gold.

Shortly thereafter, a massive black slave riot broke out in Malcolm's Terrence estate.

There was a lot of movement that night and several nearby plantations were shocked, but apart from the part of the black slave killed in the battle, only a small portion of those who fled were captured, and Malcolm's heavy accusations against Normand followed as the crowd speculated on how much damage Terrence Estate suffered this time.

Three years later, Eugene took the initiative to stand up and confess that he had been coerced by Malcolm, along with several captains with whom he had a good relationship, to falsify Normand's acceptance of bribes, leading to the dissolution of the first generation of the black merchants' union and Normand's overt departure from Nassau, while at the same time being exposed to correspondence exchanged between the two men that year.

The news sparked a huge wave among black market businessmen in Nassau.

Although he had been away from Nassau for several years, Normand still had considerable influence on the island, and essentially half of his funeral was attended by black market businessmen.

The news came out of Malcolm under tremendous pressure, and Raymond was officially speaking the following afternoon, ostensibly reassuring people and restraining them, but he finally revealed his true intentions and said he would investigate the matter. Malcolm of course knew what the latter was up to. If Raymond took over the investigation, there would be no suspension at all.

At this moment, however, he does not have many excuses to prevent Raymond from intervening, whose reputation plays a decisive role at this time, especially Raymond, Norman's closest friend, the current president of the Black Business Coalition, who seems to have a good relationship with the outsiders, and Raymond, who presides over the investigation, undoubtedly best reflects fairness.

Malcolm has not yet had time to find a solution to the false accusations against Normand, and his three-day appointment with Karina is about to expire. Malcolm still attaches great importance to this matter, especially now that the situation is getting worse for him, and he urgently needs to find new allies.

Malcolm was even ready to bleed again, not without the possibility of bargaining, but when the day came Malcolm did not see a businesswoman in the cafe.

Malcolm sat in front of the round table where he usually sat most all afternoon until the sun slanted west and finally heard footsteps coming from outside the door.

Butler Wallace pushed the door in.

Malcolm dropped the already cold coffee in his hand and raised his head and frowned, "What's the matter? ”

“There are rumours out there that Mr. Figan's incarceration is also relevant to you, that many know he was opposed to you forming an alliance of black businessmen on the island before his incarceration, and that Miss Karina is now at Raymond's, asking him to do justice.” The butler is careful.

But, unexpectedly, Malcolm didn't notice much emotional change, as if he wasn't surprised at all by the incident, just nodded his head and said calmly, "I know. ”

Housekeeper Wallace hesitated for a moment and said, "The Black Slave riot was almost investigated that night. Leah was in the lead, and they finally ran to the beach, got on a boat and left Nassau. I investigated the boat that left the port that day and the day before, and found that the Cold Crow had left the harbor that morning full of supplies, and they probably turned back after dark, so..."

“So what?” Malcolm questioned.

“So what happened that night should have something to do with them, and the letters were probably stolen from Leah, and we could tell the other landowners on the island that they certainly didn't want it to happen to them one day, and they would join forces to force the Cold Crow to hand over the escaped black slaves. ”

Malcolm couldn't help but say, pointing to the seat in front of him, "I remember we used to hang out every day when we were kids, and you secretly baked potatoes for me, but then I went to school, and we never ate together again, and by the way, you still found the cook here. ”

“Yeah, Alfonso, the Spaniard, stubborn and hated pirates, and it took me a whole week and twice the price to convince him to come here to cook, knowing that when he first arrived, he hung a pirate forbidden sign at the door, almost strangled alive at night. ”

“Well, he did make a good cup of coffee and fried eggs, and it's almost time to finish eating. Now that you're here, let's eat together, and then you'll ask him if he'd like to leave with us. ”

“You…” Wallace's face revealed a disconcerting color.

“Don't worry about me," Malcolm whispered, "I came here empty-handed four years ago, making money that the vast majority of people will never make in their lives, and even if I leave here, this wealth still belongs to me. ”

He paused and continued, “Losing is losing. I've never been a loser. Big deal is starting over somewhere else. There's more than one way to make money. There was nothing I could do today. There's no reason to hold so much money in my hands, but I can't find a way out. Not to mention, Raymond doesn't have to laugh for long. If he underestimates the woman named Karina, sooner or later, he'll pay the price. ”

“You seem to think very highly of her. ”

Malcolm snorted, "I opened the box myself and let her face her ambitions and desires, I know she was a good student, but she grew up more and more than I expected, just a short time ago she was still resenting the person who destroyed her life, and now she was able to control her emotions and make the choices that were best for her, even alliance with the person who framed her father, interesting, I made her what she is today, and she ruined my career on the island, so I guess we're even. ”

“In fact, the alliance between her and Raymond is fragile, and we can tell Raymond that she already knows who her father was framed by.” Wallace hesitated.

“No, we don't do anything. Raymond's not an idiot. He won't flip Karina until I leave Nassau.” Malcolm had another cup of coffee, "he said." I'm old enough to live long ago. Why should I do anything that doesn't do me any good? Speaking of which, Raymond must be intoxicated at this moment in solving my delight. I don't even know if I have a bomb around me. Leave her there. It's kind of my last gift to an old friend. ”
