48 Hours a Day

Chapter 725: Midnight Comes

Zhang Heng returned from the grocery store loaded and his backpack passed through the lobby of the Gilman Hostel.

The good-looking waitress didn't say a word, as if she hadn't seen the unknown backpack behind him, despite the fact that the rifle's head had been stuck inside for a long time.

Zhang Heng stepped on an old staircase to the room on the top floor, and the wooden board squeaked beneath his feet, seemingly protesting against the sudden increase in weight on him.

The lights in the hallway are no better than outside, and although they are still on, the range of light they can shine is limited, and the shadows cast on the walls seem frightening.

Zhang Heng noticed that someone was walking in Fabricotte's room. He could tell from the pace how annoyed the young expatriate was now, but not long later, he sat down again and appeared to have taken a book out of his luggage. Zhang Heng heard the paper flipped. Fabricotte seemed to want to calm himself down in this way.

Therefore, Zhang Heng did not continue to stand in the corridor, reaching out and pushing his door.

Zhang Heng, who returned to his place of residence, did not rest, but began to sort out what he had brought back. He tried to make several flasks using the method handed over to him by the Finnish guerrillas during the Suffin War, of course, with those bottles, but the pure whisky was not very high and was difficult to ignite. Zhang Heng reached some high-purity whisky through distillation, fusing with flannel in the middle.

Then he filled all three guns with bullets and tied the claw hook to the front end of the rope, so that it could be used to climb the wall. At the end of the day, Zhang Heng also picked up the line, and he pulled it all over the house shortly after. Those lines were very thin and could not be seen without a closer look under the existing dim light, let alone in the darkness after the light was turned off.

Only Zhang Heng knows where those lines are.

Nor does he expect these lines to kill, after all, they are limited in sharpness and tenacity, so long as they can stop potential uninterrupted visitors, especially if they have the idea of not knowing where there are fish lines in the room, so that their actions are naturally blocked.

Zhang Heng paid particular attention to the position of several doors and windows, and after leaving himself an escape passage, sealed off the rest of the place with a line of fish.

After doing all this, he held the door handle against his chair and then lay down in bed.

He didn't fall asleep, he couldn't tell if it was a dream or a place, and he didn't have much sleep himself, so he lay there checking out his four shadow series of props.

Zhang Heng couldn't say why, when he came to this place, he could clearly feel that the power hidden in the shadow cover had a certain resurgence, but unlike when he used it before, Zhang Heng took out his favorite [moment of shadow] and thought of the crow in his heart.

The next moment, however, he did not see the crow in the dark. Zhang Heng tried to change the number of times he used it and the rest of the [Shadow Foot]. Again, there was no result.

Zhang Hengzheng was about to try [Shadow Spoon] again, but then his ears moved.

The squeaky noise coming from the stairs and corridors meant that someone came upstairs and was not a new guest or a hostel attendant, not only because the only bus connected with the outside world was shut down tonight, but also because the visitor deliberately took the pace lightly.

This means that the other party is sneaking up and doesn't want to be known.

It took Zhang Heng a long time to distil the whisky and set up the trap, it is now after 12 pm, the vast majority of the people must have fallen asleep, as if to confirm his assumption, the next moment the old lights in Zhang Heng House suddenly strike, and the room is in the dark.

This is not because its lifespan has finally reached the day of its glorious retirement, but because someone has cut off the electric gate.

Zhang Heng knew the show was about to begin.

The people of the town said there was a celebration at night, but until now there was no one on the street outside the house, and those guys had been busy preparing for so long, it didn't make sense to go home to sleep.

However, Zhang Heng was not in a hurry. He lay still in bed and wanted to see what the guy in the hallway was going to do first.

Unexpectedly, Zhang Heng went to room 428 opposite Fabericott, stayed in front of the door for a while, presumably listening to the movement inside, and then the sound of the key slipping into the lock hole.

Obviously, Fabericott was not unprepared. His earlier anxiety had explained many problems. Although he did not agree with Zhang Heng's plan to arm himself, he seemed to have made some preparations when he came back. The person outside tried the door with a key for a while and failed to open the door, so he went around to the next room.

The room at the Gilman Hostel is very interesting. Take Zhang Heng's room as an example. Although it is only a single room, there is one front door and two side doors. The two side doors connect to the room on the left and right hand sides, respectively. Zhang Heng estimated that the door 428 should be similar.

The intruder apparently tried to find another way to get through the front door, but he had been busy for half a day and had tried both side doors and had not been able to find a way into room 428.

Zhang Heng originally thought the guy would temporarily give up 428 and turn to dive into his room, but what surprised him was that the sound in the hallway went away and someone seemed to be back downstairs.

Then Zhang Heng heard the sound of footsteps in room 428, and Fabericott apparently did not fall asleep. The poor young man estimated that he had been frightened by this moment, but he had not let himself be immersed in fear. He knew that the opportunity was rare. Since the other party had decided to attack him, it would certainly not be so easy to give up, and staying in the room would be a dead end. He had to use the interval between them to escape.

Fabericott was afraid to go out and run down the stairs, so he thought of windows, unlike Zhang Heng's house, which was just below a dilapidated ceiling and some low-lying, abandoned brick buildings surrounding the ceiling, and a swamp of countryside to the west.

The window was too far from the ground, and Fabericott wanted to jump to the roof of a masonry building, but he looked at it, and at that distance he couldn't jump to the nearest masonry building, but walking through two more rooms might be enough, so he first tried the side door on the lower south side and found out what was stuck behind that door, and in view of that, he had to turn north.

At that time, the creepy footsteps also came from the stairwell again, the sweat all over Fabericott stood up, and soon there was a violent slap at the door of his room, and the visitor seemed to have given up his disguise and decided to use it directly against him.

Just when Fabericott trembled all over himself because of fear, his face on the door was a strange colour.

Because no one has come to him until now, and the guys out there seem to have forgotten him.
