Chapter 1145: Safe and sound

Besonova initially thought where the player had come from, but the other party did not rob her of any possessions. Although they did break through the doors of many stores at night, they only took some emergency change, more everyday items that might be used, and did not take much.

Besides, all of them look Ukrainian or Russian, but oddly enough, no one speaks Ukrainian or Russian, and Besonova thinks he can deduce their identity from that.

- These people are most likely Americans or Europeans of Russian and Ukrainian descent living in the Western world, specially chosen to infiltrate the sl for covert espionage, but Besonova thought about it again, it also seems a little unreasonable, how can spies infiltrating enemy countries not learn the language at all, what kind of infiltration is this? And they don't speak English, they don't know the language of the country.

But they did have a particular interest in nuclear power plants, disguised as experts and engineers of nuclear power plants, but immediately after Besonova discovered that their interest did not seem to be in the technology of nuclear power plants, but in the accident that occurred last night, in other words, that the guys disguised as experts were indeed doing what the Moscow Group of Experts was supposed to do.

So Besonova was completely confused. She now had no idea what the players were really coming from. She even had the illusion that the other side was standing with them, the inhabitants of Pripyati. On the contrary, something seemed to be hidden from the nuclear power plant.

Moreover, although Besonova had no knowledge of nuclear physics, she was still a nurse at the medical center. She knew a little bit about radiation sickness. She could see that the players were exposed to varying degrees of radiation, and then contacted the scene when they first met. The players rushed into the ward wearing the clothes of the nuclear power plant workers.

And it happened that shortly after the Chernobyl accident, Besonova remembered very clearly, because the fire was so bright at the time of the explosion that the little nurse who was on duty with her dragged her to the window, and they guessed what was happening on the other side of the nuclear power plant, and shortly thereafter, they were all captured by the players.

In other words, when the nuclear power plant exploded last night, the group was probably there, and did they find anything, which is why they started the investigation. But Besonova doesn't know what to do if she finds out, and she can see that some of the players are not doing very well, and although doctors can provide some treatment, it's basically just about relieving pain.

Especially the coconut, whose health is not even as good as that of some nuclear power plant workers who were taken to the hospital, is now in need of formal treatment rather than a strong investigation here.

But Besonova also knew that her words didn't work at all with the players, and she didn't forget her current identity, she was still a prisoner.

Besonova called Akimov after Gatorov, as requested by the coconut. The latter was the warden of Reactor 4 last night, 33 years old, wearing glasses, with a thick curly hair and a strong appearance, but now he's all very weak. The skin was completely burned by radiation to a dark brown color, with swollen faces and hands, even tongues, and some effort even to speak.

He was exposed to much more radiation than Gatorov, who, according to his own account, had travelled with Toptunov in the vicinity of the reactor in an attempt to restore water supplies after the accident.

When he said this, he was interrupted by Besonova, just as he once questioned Gatorov, and Besonova questioned the shift chief, "Are you sure the reactor is intact?"

Akimov obviously hesitated, his body began to tremble, and he kept repeating what he had been repeating since he first entered the house, “Everything we did was right, we followed the rules in the operating manual, we did not make mistakes, really...”

“Calm down, Comrade Akimov, we're not here to blame you, at least not now, we just want to know the specifics of the reactor to provide a scientific basis for the next step, so you just have to tell us what you see. ”

“I…” Akimov opened his mouth, "We had a serious radiation accident… but fortunately the reactor was still safe. ”

He took a lot of effort to say it, but it was obvious that he felt better.

“What about the radiation values? ”

“1000 microns per second.” Akimov pushed the glasses on his face, "the immediate priority after the explosion was to fill the reactor to prevent the reactor from melting down due to high temperatures, so we were prepared to turn on the emergency pump No. 2 and start pumping water into the reactor as requested by Chief Engineer Fuming.

“But because we lost power, the gate valve had to be opened manually, so Toptunov and I went along the line to rotate the handle, and it took us a few hours to open the regulating valve on the two legs, but for some reason, the reactor seemed to be leaking, and by then we were completely exhausted, and the ambulance had taken us to the medical center, and Smurkin was our replacement. ”

Akimov's narrative is filled with guilt and self-reproach.

Besonova could see that the man in front of him was really upset about the trouble he was causing, but he didn't seem to know exactly what he was doing wrong, so he had to repeat that I was right, that everything was in order to make his conscience feel better.

Besonova even once had some reluctance to ask again, pressuring the poor man to keep remembering the details of the incident, but Besonova simply said that it was not up to her to decide, and Zhang Heng et al. did not mean to interrupt or pause the conversation at all.

But they did have something to gain, at least from Akimov's answer, which revealed something different from what Gatorov said, such as that Gatorov was in the control room when the power went down, and so he jumped like a thunder, scolded the then-senior reactor control engineer Toptunov for a dog's blood, and then ordered Toptunov to boost his power quickly, but was rejected by Toptunov.

Gatrov then moved out of the safety regulations, stating that if power drops from 80 per cent of the positions, it can only be raised in 24 hours, but now it drops from 50 per cent of the positions, and that the safety regulations do not stipulate that high power cannot be raised by horses.
