Chapter 869 - The World Lord’s Inheritance
Sword Spirit slowly rose to her feet and gave Meng Wanshu a long look. “Little girl, the Ice Fork World Lord’s inheritance is not so easily obtained.”
With that, Sword Spirit stepped into the sword coffin and vanished, leaving Meng Wanshu staring in shock. Yet her cold, imperious voice continued endlessly echoing through Meng Wanshu’s mind like a great bell.
Meng Wanshu, a woman of remarkable composure, found her eyes trembling as she frowned at the empty space beside Li Guanqi. She shot to her feet.
Nine Heavens sensed something was wrong and slowed its flight.
A heavy silence settled over them.
Meng Wanshu’s mind raced with questions she desperately wanted answered. No one knew about the inheritance she had received, not even Meng Jiangchu.
Who was that woman? How did she know her secret? And who was the Ice Fork World Lord? Had her inheritance come from him? What had she meant by “not so easily obtained”? Just how much more did she know?
A flood of questions surged through Meng Wanshu’s mind, but Li Guanqi had no idea what Sword Spirit had said to her.
Seeing her in a daze, he stood up with a frown. “Wanshu? Wanshu! What’s wrong?”
Meng Wanshu finally snapped out of it. The truth was likely far more complicated than she had imagined.
She took a deep breath. Her chest rose and fell as she slowly exhaled, calming herself.
Meng Wanshu sat back down across from Li Guanqi, though her gaze was far sharper than before. “You first, or should I?”
Li Guanqi sat down as well. “I’ll go first. I’m sure you’ve already guessed most of it.”
Boom!
A massive pitch-black sword coffin appeared beside Li Guanqi, and he pointed to it. “My grandfather gave me this sword coffin. You’ve probably already heard about it from Uncle Meng.”
Meng Wanshu nodded silently. She also knew that the Red Lotus Sword and the Yanluo Sword had both come from the coffin.
Li Guanqi raised a hand. Space twisted as boundless lightning spread around them, forming a lightning domain.
Through voice transmission, Li Guanqi said, “There’s a sword inside the sword coffin. What you sensed just now... was the sword spirit of that sword. She comes from the Immortal World.”
Meng Wanshu’s breathing stalled. Although she had already guessed part of it, she was still deeply shocked upon hearing the truth.
After all, objects from the Immortal World that could make their way into the Human World were exceedingly rare to begin with.
But from what she knew, Peng Luo also seemed to be something from the Immortal World, and Nine Heavens definitely did not belong to the Human World either.
Originally, Meng Wanshu had thought all of those were merely coincidences. But now, with the addition of the sword coffin and the Sword Spirit... It suddenly felt as though nothing was as simple as she had imagined.
Li Guanqi did not explain further. The existence of an Immortal World sword spirit alone was enough to explain many things.
With her knowledge and insight, it was hardly strange that she knew numerous high-level sword techniques and pill formulas, not to mention the fact that Su Xuan valued her so highly!
Back when Li Guanqi had lived in Fulong Village, he had only thought Su Xuan was a strange old man.
But after Meng Jiangchu brought her back to the Divine Treasure Territory, she gradually came to understand just how terrifyingly powerful Su Xuan truly was.
Meng Wanshu took a deep breath, digesting everything Li Guanqi had said.
After sorting through these thoughts, she laughed at herself mockingly. She had actually become jealous over a sword spirit. Yet the jealousy she had felt just moments ago had definitely been genuine.
But in the end, the other party was merely a sword spirit possessing a physical form. No matter what, she was still only a spirit!
The anger in her heart gradually subsided, and at the same time, she finally understood why Li Guanqi had never dared to tell anyone about these matters.
A sword spirit from the Immortal World, especially one with a physical sword body... If this secret were exposed, Li Guanqi would instantly become everyone’s target.
As the saying went, the tallest tree in the forest was the first to be felled by the wind. Li Guanqi’s only crime would be possessing such a treasure.
At that point, not only Mahayana Realm cultivators, but probably even old monsters in the Tribulation Realm would personally step in, seeking an opportunity to ascend.
Meng Wanshu took another deep breath, finally understanding why Li Guanqi had hidden all this from her.
Her beautiful eyes shimmered as she softly asked, “Besides you and me, who else knows about this?”
She asked this simply to confirm it.
Li Guanqi gave a slight shrug. “No one else. Ye Feng and Cao Yan only know bits and pieces. Neither of them knows the entire story, and they both swore Dao oaths. Oh, right, Peng Luo knows too, but he never tells me anything about Sword Spirit either.”
Meng Wanshu let out a long breath. A quiet sense of delight welled up inside her. It seemed she truly did hold a special place in Li Guanqi’s heart.
Li Guanqi secretly breathed a sigh of relief as well. Meng Wanshu was honestly a little terrifying when she was angry.
He’d never witnessed her emotions shift so drastically before; it truly took him by surprise.
Meng Wanshu poured herself another cup of wine and kneeled before speaking apologetically. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have doubted you.”
Li Guanqi froze for a moment and asked in confusion, “Doubted me about what?”
Meng Wanshu’s face flushed red as she shot Li Guanqi an annoyed glare. Since he hadn’t realized it himself, she decided to let it go.
Putting on a serious expression, she said, “Then let me tell you about my own secret.”
Li Guanqi sat up straighter. He did not know what secret Meng Wanshu was about to reveal. He had always believed she kept nothing from him. He had always believed she kept nothing from him, and now curiosity gnawed at him.
Meng Wanshu took a deep breath and asked solemnly, “Have you never wondered why my cultivation has always been slightly ahead of yours?”
Li Guanqi frowned. If she had not mentioned it, he truly would never have given it much thought.
With Meng Jiangchu supporting her, he had always assumed it was perfectly natural for her cultivation to be so high. After all, she had no shortage of resources.
But now, there seemed to be more to it.
“My family only gave me so much help. They aren’t the reason I’ve come this far! Guanqi, you were exceptionally gifted from the start. You possess an extraordinary spirit root, the Empty Spirit Physique, and countless opportunities have come your way... But during one of my journeys, I received the inheritance of a powerful expert!”
Li Guanqi frowned and said gravely, “What kind of expert? Did they leave behind a remnant soul? Or... some lingering will?”
Before he had even finished speaking, he grabbed Meng Wanshu’s wrist. His divine consciousness surged into her body, examining every inch of it. His examination was exhaustive, but he found nothing unusual.
Then his divine consciousness reached her spirit root, and he froze.
Its pure, icy aura made him frown. Never before had he encountered an ice-attributed spirit root of such extraordinary purity. It was even superior to his own.
Meng Wanshu explained, “Only a trace of spirit light entered my body. It transformed my spirit root and left me with many fragmented, disordered memories from the inheritance. That’s why I became so much stronger. And just now... The sword spirit you mentioned told me that this inheritance likely came from the lord of another world! But I’ve never heard of the Ice Fork World she mentioned...”
