A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 15: Eliminating the Monster Part 4

"A purple... bird? No, it feels a lot bigger for a bird...."

It was a Reurus murmuring in suspicion of his own eyes, but the purple giant bird was in his sight. Although I don't know the exact size because of the distance, I complain that the memory of the previous life is strange like perforated cheese.

A bird's body is light against its size. Some birds can't fly, but they are basically light in size.

However, the giant bird that Reurus saw was about three meters in size, including its widened wings, making it feel “weighted” each time. It seems to weigh as much as it looks, and Reurus thinks flying heavy objects are a threat.

"That's Torones...."

"Three of them."

Apparently, the flying giant bird is called Torones. He grabbed a man with his toenails, and three monsters were flying in the air.

"... it's not good, is it?

There's still a distance, but given the bird's flight speed, we don't have much time to engage. Reus tried to pull out the sword, but he reconsidered that the sword could not reach the flying opponent and put it in the sheath, picking up the stone that had fallen at his feet.

"By the way, senpai, how strong is that big purple stupid bird?

It would be nice to be weak now, but while holding the stone picked up and asking, Nicolas leaned her neck with a strange face.

"It's a subordinate classification. It's troublesome flying, but it's more troublesome than sitnam or Epel because it uses wind magic..."

"The direction of the flight is problematic."

Sharon also noticed Reurus, but unlike Epel and Citnam, who had been at war before, the purple giant bird flew in a different direction from the forest.

"Whether it's territoriality or habitation, Toronez is more of a westerner. It's not strange to come here because you can fly, but it's too far to be caught by the smell of blood."

"I've never heard of Torres's nose that good."

That said, Reurus searched for memories, but he didn't remember asking if birds had a sharp sense of smell. I don't know if I've ever heard of it before or if I just can't remember it, but if I can't remember it on this occasion, it's both the same.

"In the first place, Citnam, Epel, and Torones... it's strange to encounter three kinds of monsters in such a short time. Sometimes I don't encounter monsters in the sun...."

Nicolas was picking up stones and talking just like Reurus, but she just said that her face didn't fall into her heart. Sharon's expression hasn't changed so it's hard to understand, but he's holding up his cane and strengthening his vigilance.

"Coincidence?

"Of course I do. But... no, let's cut through this place first. Sharon and I can run as fast as we can, but you're not. If you run away with that, they'll catch up with you, and we'll intercept you."

"Senpai, please don't abandon me!?

Running and running means that if you leave the reus behind, you can definitely run and run. Realizing this, Reurus shouted to beg, and Nicolas maliciously distorted her cheeks.

"By the way, Torones used wind magic, didn't he? They fly a chunk of the wind, but a direct hit can have a pretty big impact. If you suck, you'll get conscious with one shot... and then you'll be pecked. Some of the adventurers died of being pecked alive."

"I object to threatening juniors! Destroy from a distance! I want to see what Senpai Sharon looks like!

Reurus looks to Sharon for help, but Sharon is silent looking at the flying giant bird. It doesn't look like Nicolas is running away, but if he doesn't react, he gets anxious.

"Hahaha, my brother seems to be in favor of running away... well, I'm kidding. If Sharon and I are going to be together, we're going to have to do it. But they're flying in the sky, so they might be heading for you. Secure your defenses and defend yourself."

"I didn't get to show you the example of a monster who uses magic, what do you think?

"I'm lucky to be able to play with the monster in front of the intermediate level from the first day of training. You're lucky."

"I won't say that you're lucky!?

I was not born into a warring nation that would be happy to fight a strong enemy, and I did not grow up like that. It was a realuse that wanted to escape, but Nicola changed her teased expression to something serious and caught the edge of her mouth.

"It would be great if you just slapped me lightly. If I were alone, it would have been tough to protect you, but there's nothing wrong with Sharon. Watch out for their attacks."

"Let's just say that...."

I don't even know if it's safe to watch Sharon actually fight. Still, Nicolas seemed to trust Sharon from the bottom of her heart, and she didn't feel a thing about her appearance when she intercepted the giant bird.

"Can't you just take Eppel's body and run away? If you run while you're eating....."

"I can't. They're totally catching us. So, Reurus, if you kill us from over there, we'll have more food. There's no way to miss it."

"I agree wholeheartedly that I can't miss it because I have more food to eat..."

If Reurus is in the opposite position, he won't miss his prey. Not to mention the fact that the opponent is flying in the sky in multiple ways, and if you can still use magic, you can also hit it unilaterally.

The distance from the giant bird shrinks as we engage in conversations to deceive tension, and every second that we follow, the giant body approaches.

Even though I was wondering if I could still escape, it was a realuse that took a combat stance, but Sharon lifted his wand to control it. Without a few seconds, four chunks of ice are created around Sharon.

The shape of the ice is rod-shaped and is about 20 cm in size. An ice arrow with a pointed tip on it. However, from Reurus, it looked more like an ice pile than an arrow.

Huh!?

The enemy must have detected that Sharon had created an ice arrow. Until then, the three giant birds that were flying straight winged strongly, one accelerated rapidly, and the other two swirled around to take evasive action.

"Shoot him down."

As he murmured, Sharon shook his staff down. At the same time, the ice arrows produced in the air were released one after the other, approaching the giant bird while cutting the wind.

Sharon is targeting a giant bird that attempts to evade at an accelerated rate, with two of the four ice arrows released being held back to prevent avoidance to the left and right, and the remaining two being truly knocked into the torso of the giant bird.

Gaggh!?

With the dull sound of Don, the giant bird screams and bleeds in the sky. One ice arrow pierced the feather and the other struck the middle of the torso.

Sometimes they were accelerating, and the impact of the ice arrows when they collided would have been considerable. The strange bird fell while rubbing its cone, and was hit from head to ground to raise the smoke.

"Ugh... gross..."

Even though the blood was scattered in the sky, Reurus suddenly groaned at the sound of a giant bird being knocked on the ground. The ground is brilliantly blooming with “blood flowers”, telling the magnitude of the impact of falling.

(I thought magic was even more beautiful and gorgeous...)

It was literally magical in that it produced ice from nothing, but the way it was operated smelled very bloody. I had no choice but to hold the position of Adventurer, but I felt that my ideals and fantasies about magic would collapse.

I have seen soldiers using the magic of fire in Shena Village, but I have never actually seen them burn to the ground to get rid of the monster. Unlike fighting with a sword, I even learned the magic of Sharon, who unilaterally killed the opponent from a long distance.

"Slow down, Reurus! The next one's coming!

Nicolas flies a sharp scolding voice against Reurus, who has a complex feeling about the appearance of a giant bird that has fallen to the ground and is still breathing. It was a realus that concentrated in a hurry with that voice, but I realized that one of the giant birds that swirled in the left and right on the way was targeting me.

The other one seemed to have set a target on Nicolas and was coming in a straight line - for some reason it was idle on the spot, making her wings huge.

"Shit! Wind magic! Avoid it!"

Nicolas tried to rush toward Reurus like he was in a hurry to see the giant bird move, but he realized he couldn't make it and shouted. When I heard that, Reurus asked me where to escape, but I felt that something was released to match the feathers of the giant bird.

(Something... is flying!?

The body of Reurus was moving faster than I thought. I instinctively felt something dangerous approaching, even if it wasn't visible.

Throw down swords and stones aggressively and fly straight to the side like a swimming dive without considering landing. And the next moment, the place that stood until then blew up and took a breath.

"Huh? Huh, what was that!?

Suddenly, the ground exploded while raising the soot and smoke, causing the eyes to turn black and white. Reurus, who was rolling on the ground, woke up instantly to check the situation, but when the wind blew and the soot cleared, he saw the ground sinking as if he had been hit with a giant hammer.

(If I miss it....)

It is not so large that it is depressed, but how powerful is it when the ground is depressed? A direct hit would have made Reurus a lot worse. Two or three bones must have been broken lightly, and if they succeeded, they could have died in a single blow.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa! If I hit you in the face, you'd be dead! It's not face-safe, it's one-shot out!

"I don't know what it means anyway, but if it's not dead, it's no problem! Sharon!"

Nicolas calls out Sharon's name, screaming back to Reus for help as he picks up the sword he threw. Sharon then made ten small ice arrows into space compared to earlier, shooting them all at the giant bird that cast the magic of the wind towards Reurus.

Did you notice the flying ice arrow? The targeted giant bird immediately evades. However, it was unable to avoid all the more ice bullets than before, and the wings were shot through and began to fall.

"Well done, Sharon!

Nicolas, who was holding him down by throwing a stone at the remaining giant bird, ran out of the sword and flew his head over the falling giant bird towards the ground. In the meantime, Sharon changed his position and stood to protect Reurus from the last one.

Are you frightened by the defeat of two of your allies? The last one tries to escape the scene with a big feather. Sharon raises his cane and creates an ice arrow again, relentlessly firing at his back.

That's it.

As Sharon said, the attack ended the battle against all three giant birds.

"You're threatening me a lot... but it was easier than I thought."

Nicola murmured as she wiped the blood of the giant bird stuck to her sword with a rag. Hearing that, Reurus raised his eyebrows and sighed.

"If I hadn't avoided magic, I might have been dead..."

"I wanted to tell you not to worry about the details because I avoided it, but I often avoided it. Wind magic is hard to avoid because I can't see it...."

Nicola puts a sword wiped with blood in her sheath and starts to dismantle the purple giant bird with a dagger. I wondered what Reurus had said, but in the end I decided to obscure it.

"Er... guess? I thought it was bad, so I avoided it... like that?

"That's a good guess. Take care of yourself."

Nicolas didn't pursue it any further, was he convinced by the word conjecture alone? For some reason, I can't afford to fight giant birds anymore, so I quickly dismantle the three giant birds I took down and send my gaze to Sharon.

"We're leaving."

"Agree"

Nicolas briefly exchanged words with Sharon and took charge of the monster materials and meat collected in previous battles. It was Reurus who had doubts about his hasty behavior, but he turned his gaze to the giant birds who were still breathing, hoping that they would return to the abandoned city of Laval.

"The chicken...."

"The smell is strong and it's not as delicious as it sounds. I'll buy you some food later, so now just think about going back to town."

Nicolas looks around and confirms that there are no other monsters.

"Sharon in the head, Reurus in the middle, I'll take care of you. It's not too far from town, but don't lose your mind."

"I know."

"... roger that."

Reurus doesn't know why, but two of the most experienced adventurers in the abandoned city of Laval are serious. That's why Reus didn't say anything anymore and ran away from the scene right away.

"... are you back alive?"

Back in the abandoned city of Laval, that was the word that came to mind when I stepped into Dominic's restaurant. Dominique, who was peeling vegetables in the kitchen, said as he saw Reurus and the others.

"Of course you do, Ooi-san! You'll take care of me and Sharon!

"Looks like you came home a long time ago for that....."

The exact time is not known to Reurus, but the current time is probably a little past noon. Though I thought it would be an early return as a new adventurer, I could not oppose Nicolas and Sharon.

Dominic also wonders what happened to them, snorting his nose and turning to today's “achievement” brought in by Reurus and the others.

"The horns of Eppel, the fur, the meat, the sickle of Citnam, and the feathers of Torones. Quite a lot of prey for a short time... are you hurt?

They're all intact.

I'm just a little tired.

Nicolas and Sharon laugh at Dominic to see if he's hurt. Dominic snorted at them again, calling out to Corona, who thought he was helping them cook in the kitchen.

"It's nice to get my prey, but it stinks a lot of blood... corona, water and a hand wipe."

"I'm ready."

Hearing Dominic's words, Corona rushed in with a patter of footsteps. He had a wooden barrel with water in his hand and a hand-wrap for the number of people. When he reached Reurus and the others, he immersed the hand-wrap in water, squeezed it, and then handed it over.

"Please, everyone. I'll bring you drinking water soon."

"Ah no, I'm not letting Corona's girlfriend take so much trouble...."

"Thank you, Corona. Niisan, you should be sweet at times like this."

Sharon receives a hand wipe with Nicolas, who looks terrified. I was surprised at the difference, but Corona gave me a hand wipe and received it reflectively.

"Mr. Reurus, please."

"Whoa... thank you, Corona."

The demolition of monsters was carried out by Nicolas, so it is not stained with blood, but the sand and soil adhere by scratching the cold sweat in the fight against monsters and rolling around the ground several times. So when I wiped my hands and face clean, Corona stared seriously.

"I was worried when I heard that this was my first time fighting monsters as an adventurer...."

Corona looks from the rear of the head to the tip of the nail to make sure there is no slight injury. And he smiled with his hands on his chest as if he was relieved.

"- Yeah, I'm glad you're okay."

Reurus confronts himself with a voice and manners that make him think he was really worried about himself.

(What a cute kid. I thought you were an angel or a goddess.

For Reurus, who has barely touched the kindness of others in this world, the feeling of worry and relief that Corona has brought to him was astonishing.

"Excuse me because I have business with the union. Nice to meet you, brother."

Sharon tells others about Reurus who feels similar to some kind of emotion. Nicolas didn't stop it, but handed over the materials of the monster she had been carrying.

"I left the report to you. I'm going to work on Reurus."

"Nh. If you don't have time, I'll join you later."

Sharon lightly lifts the fairly heavy Epel meat and leaves the scene early. When Reurus, who was late, rushed to ask what was going on, Nicolas slapped her shoulder to block it.

"Well, that's what you care about. I managed to defeat my first monster as an adventurer alive... and that's enough for now."

Reus closed his mouth and Nicolas smiled a little before turning to Dominic.

That's why I want to feed him something.

"I'm still in the process of making it up to you... but that's fine. Wait a minute."

He said he'd come back for dinner after work, but he didn't think he'd come back so soon. Still, Dominic, who was going to eat as promised, took Corona back to the kitchen, and it didn't take so long for Corona to bring something in.

"Please wait a little longer for the main course. Until then, please take this."

That is why Corona placed a ceramic cup on the table. Inside there was a light orange liquid, and Reurus leaned his neck to wonder what it was.

"It's an aperitif. I tried adding fruit juice to the diluted liquor. It's a reputation for being delicious.

When I was told to check the smell, the smell of alcohol stuck my nose together with the smell that made me feel the sweetness. When Reurus frowned on the smell of liquor that he had smelled for the first time in the world, Nicolas lifted the glass and gave it to Reurus.

"That's why it's hot."

It was a realuse to think of what to imitate, but there would be only one thing to do, such as being offered a glass containing alcohol. Even if the world changes, there are times when it doesn't change from the previous life.

"Celebrate your first monster defeat."

Reurus also lifted the glass and laughed at Nicolas laughing at the edge of her mouth.

"Thank you for coming back alive."

Cheers.

That's how they hit each other's glasses and put their mouths on the liquor.

--The first drink in the world was another delicious drink.
