A Chronicle of Life in a Different World
Episode 114: Dwarf's Territorial Part 3
--What is the difference between an adventurer and a soldier?
There is no big difference in the use of force, but the position is very different in this world.
A vigilante group that protects slum-dyed areas called abandoned towns.
An official army organized by a lord who governs a country or town or village.
Adventurers are predominantly about defeating monsters, and soldiers are treated not only as monsters, but also as troops in the crusade against bandits that appear in the territory, in conflicts with soldiers in other territories, and in wars against other countries.
Adventurers are born in the Waste City or settled in the Waste City, but soldiers are a clean profession. It varies in number and quality depending on the character of the lord who governs the land and the location of the territory, but it is basically a hard-working warrior.
Soldiers and agricultural workers can be found in small villages, but this is a rare category. In addition to human threats such as banditry, the position of soldier does not hold concurrent positions in a world where dangerous creatures such as monsters exist.
Train daily, arm, and refine your skills by repeating battles. When you become a soldier, you grow stronger than an adventurer who has survived the same age.
Of course, there are exceptions to everything.
There are even a few who are adventurers but are stronger than the ranks of soldiers. However, adventurers are in most cases inferior to soldiers who sharpen their interpersonal skills as well as their monster counterparts.
Besides, the most powerful soldier is a group fight. Be faithful to your commander's instructions and use your best efforts as an individual as well as a group while working with your surroundings.
Even if they can't use magic, soldiers hunt stronger monsters through their forged bodies and moves, as well as through collaboration.
But “it” is only an ideal. Not all soldiers had equal power, and some lords had minimal armaments.
Soldiers are important, and they are needed to rule the territory. Every lord understands - but it takes a lot of money to organize and maintain a strong army. The fact that no sleeve can shake is a tough fact, even if the world does not change.
The more dangerous a profession is, the higher the salary paid to soldiers is. In addition, it is a very golden worm, such as living expenses such as food expenses, training expenses, repairs to weapons and armor purchases, and army horses that drag their baggage around the territory.
Besides, soldiers can hardly be productive as long as they are producing battles. Depending on the territory, it may be driven into civil engineering work, which will deprive the territory of work.
Essentially, a soldier is a mere consumer and can only maintain and improve security in the territory.
Of course, that's very important. If soldiers are known to be weak or slow, bandits may move from other locations. A “decent” lord, more than a monster extermination, directly connected to the safety of his people, can't help it.
A soldier like that can be divided into two categories in Mataroi.
One is a soldier called the National Army.
As the name suggests, it is an army owned by the Mataroi nation that protects the capital, major streets, and fortifications near the border.
And the other is a soldier called the leader.
This is an army organized by lords everywhere, and if you change your mind, you might call it a private soldier. An army that protects territory and can be led by a lord if there is a fight.
If the highest rank of the National Army is the King, the highest rank of the Leader becomes the Lord. Although the National Army and the Leadership Army may oppose each other due to differences in positions, there are “few” cross-border clashes because they fall within the framework of soldiers.
It is likely that there will be contradictions in the event of a rebellion by a lord, or in the event of a major breakdown and crushing.
The role of the leader is different from that of the national army by solving problems and problems around the territory. And, of course, the “problem” here also includes extermination of monsters.
"Dwarves... I hear they dig holes in the ground and live their lives, but are they really responsible for this disturbance?
"That's what you're investigating, right? If you slap me in the mouth, the captain will kill you."
It is also the lead's job to investigate the recent collapse of the Valley mine northeast of the fortified city of Accra.
The Valley Mine is included in the territory of the Lord who governs Accra, and the ore excavated from the Valley Mine is an important resource. That said, there have been recent crashes here.
Occasionally, dwarves were seen near Accra, but it was judged likely that the dwarf's traits were responsible for the accident, and Accra's leadership was dispatched.
We searched around the Valley Mine first, but we can't find the dwarf, so we're expanding our search.
Some of the soldiers who came to the investigation as the leader thought it would be a shame to look for dwarfs they didn't know. This is due to the fact that there is too little information about dwarves rather than loyalty to their duties.
There may be a dwarf near the Valley Mine.
The dwarf may have dug into the Valley Mine and collapsed it.
If we look for it, we might find the dwarf.
Such vague assumptions have always been rumored in Accra, and Accra's lord immediately dispatched a leader.
There may be appeals to the people, but Dwarves are also famous for their good blacksmith skills. It was also said to come and capture if possible, and it was rumored among the soldiers that capture would be more fatal.
"It would be rude of me to catch an intermediate monster alive....."
"Even if I say subhuman, I'm a monster. If you're involved in the collapse of the Valley mine, killing them will suffice."
Soldiers mutually complain whispering as they line up and walk. Normally, we use streets for transportation, but this time we are looking for dwarves, so we march into the woods. It's impossible to lose your mind.
Lower monsters aren't a great enemy to the soldiers. A magical monster can be a little tricky, but it can be hunted with plenty of room.
But it's different when it comes to intermediate monsters. You can't win one-on-one if you're a low-level monster. However, if it is intermediate, it needs to take more than one, and if the monster classified as intermediate or higher is the opponent, it needs to be prepared for damage.
Very troublingly, the dwarf, who was told to keep him alive, is a monster classified as "average” intermediate. If you are weak, it is intermediate, but if you are strong, it is comparable to intermediate.
Small, but powerful, and furthermore, they use "Enhancements" to rampage around. The weapons that Dwarf, a good blacksmith, shakes are of a better quality than those of the soldiers, and they can be broken if we meet from the front.
If they had one or two, it wouldn't be a problem. Even ten of them still can handle it. Still, some soldiers said they didn't want to fight the dwarf.
It's not about winning or not winning, it's about Dwarves being spirituals without exception - people who believe in the Spirit of Fire, to be precise. Some of the soldiers believed in spiritualism, and they were not the ones who wanted to take the lead.
"You went out of your way to send reinforcements to other territories, didn't you? What will the Lord do if he doesn't find the dwarf?
"Well... that's not what we think."
Still, my job is my job. If you see a dwarf, you have to have as much dialogue as you can, and if you can't, you have to kill him. It's troublesome, but I can tell you that this is also a job.
"... hmm?
Those were the soldiers who thought so, but I noticed a strange smell as I was walking through the woods with vigilance. It smells like something is burning, fragrant and attractive.
Soldiers thought it was a fire, but the rain the other day wet everywhere in the forest. Then step forward with vigilance as to what this smell is.
"Come on, Reurus! You burned me, too. Eat it!
"Ooh... ah, just take the soil from my gut and I'll be fine. Soy sauce would be perfect."
What do you mean, "shoyu”?
In the woods, I encountered a mysterious trio eating giant monsters.
"Let's drive them back as gently as possible. If you can't do that, we'll just have to do what we didn't do here."
The approaching group of soldiers, informed by a male dwarf. Having heard the story, Reurus immediately decided.
In Dwarf's story, there were about fifty people even if I only counted a few. I left before counting accurately, so if I succeed, there may be more soldiers.
But it is. If there were about fifty soldiers, there would be an equal number of "dwarfs alone” on Reurus.
The soldiers were in the Lost Forest, but it was close to the street, and it took about an hour to walk from where the Reurus were.
The Reuses are also far from the dwarf settlement and are just in the middle of the Lost Forest. Even if the soldiers could reach us, it would still take some time.
"Are you going to drive me back? I don't think I can get here even if I leave you alone...."
After hearing Reurus's remarks, Meer leaned her neck. Yesterday's heavy rain changed the terrain of the Lost Forest, but I don't think it's going to get out easily.
"The opponent is a large number of soldiers. If you realize you're lost in the woods, maybe you'll cut down the trees and go further? Besides, you don't like soldiers wandering around, do you, Meer?
"That's... yeah, well, yeah."
Is it because of the way we met, or is it because of behavior, or is it because of the character of Reurus? The dwarves are showing a fairly favourable attitude towards Reurus, but they don't really like humans.
Soldiers will be happy to intercept them if they attack the dwarf colony. If we don't get lost in the Lost Forest and get closer to the settlement, we'll leave him alone, but according to the dwarf who reported to us, he was obviously making moves to explore the area.
"Well, Reurus, it's a shame to chase you back, but even if you're not there, it's a human being." Are you on our side?
…… You don't even know people, and if you suck, your aunts suck, right? We'll have them make weapons, and we'll be on our side. "
If there is a problem, maybe the big sword I used was worn out a few minutes ago. The blade is also chipped and the blade is bent, making it look like an ugly saw.
(No, this looks like a visual effect... like a big saw)
Now that the "Magic Letter" of "Enhancement" has disappeared, it looks like it will break instantly if I shake it with all my strength. Still, because of its apparent impact, the soldier's willingness to engage may be diminished.
"But how are we going to get rid of him? I don't think I'm going home when I tell you to..."
Eliza, who had been listening until then, clasped her mouth. I agree to defend the dwarf, but I don't think you know how to do it.
Reurus laughed at Eliza's reaction, pointing to the giant worm she had just finished.
"You did it once before, didn't you? It's just like that, so let's make it the killer. To be more persuasive... should we have yesterday's share?
Reurus asked the dwarves to carry the wreckage of the giant worm he had just taken out and the giant worm he had taken out yesterday.
"Well, that's our job. Do you want to use what's available?"
That's how Reurus laughed.
