A Chronicle of Life in a Different World
Episode 118: Where is the Truth Part 4
Should I say as expected or should I say as unexpected?
On their way back to the Forest of Lost without incident, Reurus met with Meer, but found several soldiers on the outer edge of the Forest of Lost and stopped unexpectedly.
The tail soldier was walking along the street at an unexpectedly slow pace, but it still took about a day and a half to get back to the Lost Forest.
In the meantime, there were about three soldiers in a row, and in many cases, there were about five soldiers wandering around the Lost Forest.
(If Sarah hadn't been here, she might have been in trouble...)
It is avoided to encounter it unexpectedly because there is a Sarah who can sense the heat source, but I don't know why there are soldiers. I handed over the remains of a giant worm as the “killer” of the mine's collapse, but wasn't that enough?
"I can't believe Sara-chan knew where a human being was even so far away..."
When Meer murmured as impressed, Sarah stretched her chest with her hands on her hips like her nose was high. Reurus didn't say anything because of his ability to actually be brazen, but depending on the soldiers' thoughts, various problems were likely to arise.
"Are you afraid of other colibeaux coming out...?
"No, that's probably enough. I'm thinking I'll get lost when I get inside, so why don't I go into the Lost Forest... and I'm just going to break up with a few of them and look around. I'm not going to step into a dwarf settlement."
I don't know how many soldiers I have in Accra City alone, but there are a few ways to get out of the Lost Forest.
It will be rough, but if the direction of travel is guided by similar trees, you can proceed while cutting down the trees. Without resorting to such brutal measures, if we proceed while confirming the direction with a large number of people, we will eventually be able to get through the Lost Forest.
By not doing that, Eliza is right, she's just watching out for other giant worms.
― ― The problem is that it is deployed around the Lost Forest, not the Valley mine.
(I'm out here, so you're waiting with a net? But that captain is going to warn me...)
Perhaps they intend to gather all the soldiers in the neighborhood before breaking through the Lost Forest and destroying the dwarf. If you get caught up in it, it's certainly dangerous - all but speculation.
"Yes, yes! I've come up with a good idea!
"... I'm not expecting anything, but let's just ask. What's the good idea?
"Ask the soldiers! Er... yes! Interrogation? You'll tell me, right?
Though Reurus thought he was making noise again, Sarah's remarks were one thing.
It is not a bad idea to target a small number of soldiers and make them give up information. Since the face would be discovered first, I could say that the odds of success would be high if I hid my face with a cloth and assaulted it.
"... that's the last resort. Now we're going back to the settlement."
But even if the formula for success is high, it is only Reurus' prediction. It may be easier to target a soldier who does not feel magic, but it is also possible that a trained soldier will not succeed if he or she is targeted.
Interrogation may not yield enough information, or the soldier may not have enough information, which is worse if it fails. No matter how many Reurus are spiritual guests, they will be relentlessly killed.
So be careful not to let your guard down, Reurus and the others step into the Lost Forest.
In addition to sensing Sarah's heat source, if the opponent has magic, they will catch on to Reurus. Avoid all soldiers on the outer edge of the "Forest of Lost" and follow Meer's guidance through the "Forest of Lost".
"Meer, just for the record... the dwarf didn't dig up and collapse the Valley mine, did he?
"Huh? And suddenly what? The Valley Mine is where humans excavate, right? I do want ore, but I don't bother to do such a dangerous thing."
Looking at Meer's eyes and asking, Meer answered with her cheeks slightly red. The reaction did not seem to be a lie, but Reurus continued his words without distraction.
"Rumor has it in the town of Accra that the Dwarves have collapsed the Valley Mine... just to ask."
"Er... why are there rumors like that? If we dig underground around here, we'll find ore, and we won't go anywhere else without a reason....."
"Rumor has it I saw a dwarf on the west side of Mataroi. Isn't that the reason...?
It was a Reurus who was talking to Meer, but I felt something caught in my remarks.
(No, wait, something's wrong... I went to Accra to find the dwarf, and I heard a lot about the dwarf. But I didn't even ask what kind of place you live in....)
As far as rumors go, what Natalia told me was that the dwarf was good at blacksmithing. If I may add, from Natalia's point of view, Reurus is likely to get along with the dwarf.
When I arrived in the city of Accra, I heard rumors about dwarfs at a spiritual church, but in the first place - do the “ordinary inhabitants” living in the walls know about dwarfs?
The Reurus are adventurers, fighting monsters every day. For this reason, it is not strange that residents of the Waste City should know information about monsters. However, it seemed impossible for civilians protected by walls and soldiers to gossip about dwarfs.
(Rumors of merchants, soldiers, miners coming from outside... that's impossible, isn't it?
Reurus didn't know that the dwarf was making a house by drilling a hole in the ground. The information Natalia gave us did not include anything like that.
"Hey, Eliza. I know it's hard for you to say, but there's only one thing I want to make sure of."
"What is it? There's nothing you can hide from your master right now, is there?
Reus, Eliza, Sarah, Meer. Of these, Eliza was the only one who met the “conditions”, and Reurus decided to ask her with a frustration.
"Eliza used to live in a normal town, didn't she? When I was a kid, I wanted to ask you one question... how long did Eliza know about the monster before she left town?
Eliza was originally from another country and when she was a child, she lived in a normal town, not a abandoned town. It is also a “young lady” located in the wealthy part of the town where she lived.
Even if we set aside the family trees, we need the opinions of those who lived in peaceful towns like Accra and Laval today.
"... uhh, I barely knew what to say. Even though Auntie Yama-sama was asked to exterminate a monster near town... I heard it was dangerous..."
Reurus' worries were superfluous, and Eliza didn't seem to care about anything in particular just by thinking seriously.
"So you know very little about monsters? You didn't know the name, what kind of monsters, what kind of magic to use...?
"Hmm, it doesn't matter how much you live in town. I don't remember hearing the details from Auntie Yama-sama."
Eliza puts her hand on her forehead to explore her memories, but her response is irrelevant. The Reurus who was watching the situation felt something cold on his spine.
(... I mean, what? In Accra City, rumors were spreading, "I don't know where it came from."
That's what rumors are all about, but is there a pinpoint rumor that 'it was the dwarf that caused the Valley mine to collapse'?
I've seen sightings before, but it's not like I saw a dwarf lurking underground.
I can imagine some of the dwarfs with Reurus, but there are still limits. The appearance was as imagined, but I didn't think the dwarf would dive underground.
(Rumor doesn't know the source... but the rumor treats the alien, no, the "monster” dwarf as the killer...)
As for Reurus, I have heard similar stories with great regret. There were no similar stories, and the girl who actually suffered the damage was right next door.
"... hurry through the woods. They could be more involved than soldiers."
Saying so with a serious voice tone, Reurus hastened his speed at once.
You don't have to be so dangerous about the soldiers around the Lost Forest. Reurus thinks it's dozens of times safer than them. Rather, it may be impossible to compare.
"Damn them? What, worse than Vaniel?
"That's too bad to compare... but as bad as me"
It's like poisoned daggers all of a sudden all over town - the Gregorians.
I think Reurus should think too much. A light-mouthed soldier chattered to Bella Bella that the dwarf might be the killer in the town, and rumors followed by tails and backs made him swim around.
The town where Eliza was born and raised was different, but Accra has probably been teaching neighboring monsters since childhood to convey the threat of monsters.
But we will never move beyond being vigilant and prepared. Reurus and the others rushed up the steep slope mountain path through the "Lost Forest" without stopping. They climbed to the top and arrived at the dwarf settlement, which is a basin.
"Hmm? Ooh! That's Reurus! What happened to the story of a human soldier following us!?
When the Reurus arrive at the settlement, a few dwarves who were working in the fields rush in. Apparently there is no problem at the moment, but seeing the vibrant dwarves, the revus was relieved.
"After walking down the street for about three days... no, we're better off. This is the problem... with the dwarf settlement."
"Ah? While you guys were out there, the house and facilities were almost fixed. Calvin's guy lengthened his neck... No, he's a jerk. I've been waiting for you anyway."
I would like to see a dwarf with a long neck. While thinking about that in the corner of his heart, Reurus continued his conversation with a serious expression.
"I'm still guessing... maybe the Gregorians are after this place."
"Ah? Oh, come on, suddenly. Hey, you bastard. Gregorians? Why are they after us?
Asked why they were targeting the dwarf, it was also troublesome as a revus. I can only deduce from the situation that there is no evidence or purpose.
Gregorianism is a religion that worships advanced monsters but does not know what it wants to do when it comes to taking the lead in killing them. According to that doctrine, a dwarf that is only an intermediate monster should not be eligible.
"My Eliza... well, there's a lot of color.” Mid-level monsters could be targeted. I'm not going to tell you to be vigilant. "
"I don't know... I have a way out in my house, and when it's time, I'll dive into the ground.
They'll kill you while you're lurking on the ground. Though I thought so, Reurus did not put it into words.
"If there's a way out. We'll call Calvin's grandmother for now. I'd like you to build me a weapon."
"Oh, do it, do it. If you don't have a shaker, you can't make something right. Don't show your face until Calvin's guy's out."
With those words, Reurus and the others split up with the dwarf and headed to the house. There was a cave that collapsed and buried the other day, but there was a big hole.
"... what is this, awesome"
Reurus, who peeked into the big hole, whispered as if to put aside the Gregorians once.
The caves that collapsed were drilled to the size of a revulsion, and the walls and ceilings were reinforced with wood. Its appearance is like a coal mine, and Reurus occasionally exchanges words with different dwarves as he goes through the “passage”.
"- Whoa! How long have you kept me waiting, you bastard!
And there was Calvin in the room that had taken a few turns down the aisle. Looking at Reurus and the others, she turned her face upset and slapped her arms with her fingers.
"Sorry, it takes a while for a tail soldier to give up... by the way, do you blacksmith here?
The Reurus arrived in a large room built in the ground. It was a hemispherical room about ten meters wide, with furnaces and refreshing facilities built by the wall. Other gold floors are available.
A candlestick stood on the walls that thought the soil had been pressed and hardened, and a candle fire was illuminating the surroundings. The candle fire is swinging loosely, considering that it suffocates in the ground.
"In the meantime, I fixed the necessary equipment. All you have to do is put your sword in line with Ome's wishes."
"Really... then please hurry..."
"Ah, ahh!
It was a Reurus who tried to make a sword, but Eliza raised her voice to block it. Reurus thought something was going on, and Eliza stepped forward and turned a serious eye to Calvin.
"Wow, can you make me a weapon too!?
And that's what I said.
