A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 158: Turbulence Part 1

― ― Reurus woke up with a flashy sound.

When I opened my eyes to see what the noise was, my vision was shaking. I get sick and wake up on the bed, but apparently the whole ship is shaking.

The ship was shaking like a violent earthquake, and Reus unexpectedly raised his eyebrows.

"Fuoooo... ahh, I hit my head... ga-too, ga-too..."

Reurus slept in the lower part of the bunk bed, but Sarah, who was supposed to have slept in the upper part of the bed, heard the sound of being pushed to death. When I checked something, Sarah, who was holding her forehead down, was rolling around on the bed.

Bed handrails are made high to prevent the ship from falling when it sways. But this time, it must have been a vendetta. When the boat swayed flashly, Sarah's body moved and she hit her head on the railing.

"Why aren't you shaking since the morning...? Are you shaking?

"Nh... why are you both... wow, this is disgusting!

Eliza and Meer also awoke in response to Sarah's standing noise, but immediately raised their impatient voices.

Reurus is standing on the floor from his bed, but if he doesn't grasp something, the ship is shaking to the point where it's going to break its balance.

I don't feel any magic around the ship, so it's probably not a monster attack. Reurus struggled with the shaking scaffolding, but managed to carry a large sword and put it behind his waist.

I just can't afford to put on my protective gear. I think I'll fall a few times while I'm putting it on. Even if you put on your armor, if you roll over with the Dwarf's sturdy armor on, it will likely leave a hole in the floor.

"I'll check the situation for now. Eliza and the others should come when they're ready."

As Eliza called out to them, Reurus opened the door and went out into the hallway. The ship, which was supposed to be reinforced with metal, made occasional murmuring noises, and Reurus headed for the deck with his hand against the wall.

Then open the door leading to the deck.

"Whoa... what is this?"

Unexpectedly, he leaked such a murmur.

It was a realuse that opened the door, but when I opened the door, the wind and rain came. The wind rains like a bang, and the door is stirred up by the wind. I felt that the winter cold, the rain and the storm had suddenly lowered my temperature.

Reurus narrowed his eyes to the rain particles that were spraying on his face, but it was the river Leté that jumped into his vision yesterday and looked different and rough.

The river's water is dyed brown and waves like the sea. It appeared to be “rough” to the extent that the revus that tried to reach the deck could accidentally pull its foot back.

(Jilba-san said it might be rough, but it's too rough....)

It's not a noise that changes the speed of the flow.

Gilba predicted that there would have been heavy rain upstream of the many rivers that led to the Leté River, but the rain clouds that caused heavy rain would have flowed here as well.

The Leté River, which had grown in width as it approached downstream, was dyed brown in color, and the shore could not be seen because of the rainfall. Even if it were sunny, there might be so much river width that you can't see the shore, but it is impossible to confirm it at present.

Mr. Reurus!

It was a Reurus who was looking at the surrounding situation as if confused, but Gilba rushed over thinking she'd been on deck before.

Zilba is surprised that the ship is shaking violently and the deck is still wet due to rain. Reurus has managed to maintain balance by placing his hand against the wall.

"Were you okay in the cabin? The weather and the river have changed dramatically in the last hour or so...."

"It just happened. Sarah hit her on the forehead and she didn't get hurt."

"Really... this rough pattern will shake the ship. The captain and crew were steering the ship to keep it from shaking as much as possible, but it seemed like they were at their limit."

Apparently, the captain and crew didn't wake up until now. Reurus can't guess what he did for the Gatekeepers, but he tried to keep the ship as still as possible.

"That's okay!?

When the Reurus tried to dispel the doubt, the ship “jumped". The body of the Reurus suddenly floated as if it had swayed horizontally, vertically, or even bounced.

Gyaaaaaaaaa! I hit my head! Aahhhhh!

I managed to keep the balance, but I heard a groaning scream from the cabin about Sarah's. I don't think it was a good scream from the girl, but Reurus ran into Gilba before you did.

"It's chaotic and rough, but is it okay to proceed like this?

"Yeah, the boat's fine.” If there's a problem, the faster it goes, the less it gets into the river port. "

While saying so, Zilba looks toward where the ship is headed. I can't see far in the rain, but considering the intensity of the sound of the wind cutting, it seems that the boat was twice as fast as it was yesterday.

"The water in the river is growing, and Valdi's river port won't work. The Captain says he'll be seeing Valdi soon...."

Reurus looks up at the sky in Gilba's words.

Because it is covered with thick rain clouds, we cannot see the position of the sun and do not know the current time. Still, I think it's already morning because I can see the rain clouds with bright vision.

"We were supposed to arrive around this evening, but if we stay like this, we'll pass Valdi. Riding the river and passing to Lake Mersena, they're heading for land through loose streams."

If we don't even care about the damage to the ship, we may be able to rudder to shore and get up to land, but the roughness of the Leté River makes it dangerous.

It is difficult to land the entire ship, and there is a risk that the hull will be taken to the river Leté and capsized. In the first place, if we get on land with more water, the water will pull and the ship will be left on land.

"If you're safer, there's nothing we can or should say to amateurs."

We were almost half-day ahead of schedule to arrive in Valdi, but it seems we'll have to pass by.

The Leté River leads to Lake Mersena, so if you go to Lake Mersena, you'll be able to escape the current.

Even in other worlds, they can't beat nature's fierceness. Even in the previous life, typhoons occasionally struck directly, and Reurus stared at the wind and rain blowing.

"It's hard to tell if it's safe."

However, unlike Reurus, who thought that nature could help, Gilba seems serious. When Reurus becomes confused, Gilba turns to the raging Leté River.

"Unlike the Leté River, Lake Mersena is home to many aquatic monsters. If we don't protect the ship until we land, we may sink."

"... is Lake Mersena such a dangerous place?

"The size and depth of the Leté River are two digits different. The Leté River has little danger of encountering giant monsters, but what happens when we go to Lake Mersena...."

Coastal areas are less dangerous, Gilba adds.

Apparently, the Reurus and the others appeared in a hurry. I would have liked to arrive at Valdi, my destination, without incident, if possible.

(What a big lake...)

The huge Leté river just flows in, and Lake Mersena is probably huge. I don't know, but why not go out to sea saying “lake” in Mersena?

"I've visited several times, but it's so big that I can't see the opposite shore even on sunny days. The downstream of Lake Mersena is connected to the sea."

Apparently it's not the sea, but it's incredibly spacious.

Reurus wonders if it is like Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan that lived in the previous life. As far as I'm concerned, I've never actually been there.

"When we get to Lake Mersena, we'll first get off this“ stream ”of the Leté River... and then we'll be lucky."

"I'm not sure I'm lucky...."

The ship swayed vertically again to affirm the facial revulsion, and Sarah's screams echoed from the cabin.

As Gilba told us, Reurus passed Valdi's river port not long after he left the deck.

If we don't defy the flow of the Leté River too intensely, and if we do, we won't even be able to hold the boat in the river port because of the effects of the increase in water.

"Uu... my head hurts..."

Almost through the Leté River to Lake Mersena. It was Reurus who understood it from the voices of the sailors like the wrath, but Sarah approached with a flimsy step.

Apparently he hit his head flashy and put his hand on his forehead. There was Eliza and Meer behind Sarah, but they both looked pale.

"Reurus... well, a little... no, it's pretty disgusting..."

"My stomach feels strange... maybe I'm too tight..."

Unlike yesterday, I felt seasick from being attacked by a violent shake. Compared to Sarah, the Spirit of Fire, Eliza and Meer are both “normal” bodies.

There is no indication of drunkenness to the extent that the revulsion is influenced by the "protection" or its original constitution, or the difficulty of balancing.

Jilba and the like were well balanced with the ship's shaking, as were the crew running around the deck despite the severe shaking. No sign of getting drunk on the boat, and she looks worried about Eliza and Meer.

"If it's tough, don't force me to rest in my room..." Wouldn't this change anything? "

"If you're injured, the magic of ship sickness won't cure you. Even if I take my medicine now, I'm going to just“ put it back "...."

Gilba can use magic called healing magic, but it's not universal enough to heal her seasickness. I think getting off the ship is the best solution, but I couldn't get off the ship as it is.

Drunkenness medicine is not as effective or immediate as it is “modern”. In Zilba's view, adding something to the stomach before the medicine worked would only result in nausea.

"We will soon reach Lake Mersena. If you get off the river, you'll be able to shake, so you'll have to put up with it until then."

"Both Eliza and Meer, throw up when it gets tough. From the edge of the ship... or it falls off. I wish the toilet pail was safe."

There is a toilet inside the ship, but of course it is not washed with water. There is a bucket in a small private room, and if you add anything, you throw it in the river.

However, it may even be difficult to vomit in a ship shaking violently.

"Well, that's a little..."

"Uh-huh...."

It was Eliza and Meer who were looking pale, but as an old girl, I shook my head sideways to see if it was something I wanted to avoid.

I wanted to say if I was worried about shame or appearance, but I decided that there was enough room for me to care.

Eliza grabbed a stick pointing to the floor with both hands, desperately maintaining her posture, and Meer put her hand against the wall to support her body. Although Meer carries a hammer on her back, she won't be able to shake it in this situation.

"Lake Mersena is approaching!

Worried about what was going on, the sailor shouted out that he had been watching. The voice caught Reurus gazing at the front of the ship, but I'm not sure because the rain is blocking my vision.

Perhaps it was not visual, but rather changes in river flow. It was Reurus who remembered such a trivial question, but he noticed Lake Mersena approaching for a "different reason” than the sailor.

----The feeling of Reurus caught some magic.

(This sign is... not one or two.)

The magic that can be felt from the distance and still lurking in the water is ambiguous. Still, I felt several monsters interspersed as the ship proceeded.

However, I only felt the magic of the monster. The opponent may not be targeting the ship, or they may be pushed by the flow of water just like the ship, or they may be moving irregularly.

"Sarah, what about the monster's fever?

"Hmm... don't be rude... if it's land, the water won't feel in the way if it's a monster in the water"

It was a Reurus that Sarah confirmed, but the answer is not good. Sarah's heat source detection, which is broader and more accurate than Reurus, did not seem to be helpful in this situation.

"All right, we're past the Leté! Put the hatch in! Let's get out of the stream!

A captain's voice echoes through the wind and rain. Slightly behind that voice, I thought the ship rocked, and the rafter that cut through the flow “diagonally” began to take the route.

Considering the width of the river downstream of the Leté River, getting out of the stream will be a hassle. Still, if you keep flushing, you'll go deeper into Lake Mersena, so you'll need to row out of it.

"Captain! What about the sails!?

"Not yet! The moment you say it's the wind, you'll overthrow it!

Reurus looked at the sailors rushing around the deck more hastily. Of course, it's not possible to operate the ship, so it's best to be patient.

Nevertheless, the number of magical powers I could feel once I entered Lake Mersena increased. Whether the distance is different or the magic possessed is different, Reurus can feel various magic powers.

(... don't you have many?

Exploring underwater magic from onboard has never been part of my life. For that reason, I'm not sure, but at least five magic powers are within detectable range.

"Gilba-san, the other party may just be running away, but there are signs of a monster....."

"How many?

"Five... no, six more."

It was a revulsion to alert Gilba for the first time, but one more magic in the middle of the conversation. The magic can be clearly felt compared to other monsters.

"Oh no... one is coming!

As he screams, Reurus rushes to the port side of the ship. The deck wasn't wide enough, but he turned to the monster that approached him carefully so as not to slip his feet.

The magic position is not underwater, but on the surface and is clearly approaching the ship.

Was it waiting for a “prey” to pass through the turbid stream, or was it a coincidence? Reurus arrives at the handrail and picks up the rope that was placed next to him.

"... hey, don't you have a big one?

When the opponent shows up, throw a pigeon. It was a realuse that I thought of, but when I saw the black shadow floating on the surface of the water, I murmured.

In his dim vision, Reurus glared slightly smaller than the ship - a monster that was clearly too huge for the fish.
