A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 194: Request for Investigation Part 1

When the seasons began to turn into spring and the trembling cold began to subside.

Mataroi is a large state with a vast territory that contests one or two of the continents called Caldeva.

A town called Laval Waste City existed immediately adjacent to the fortified city called Laval, located in the southern part of Mataroy.

Compared to the “regular town”, it is a town with a small population and surrounded by earth walls and wooden fences that have to be said to be fragile in a dangerous world where dangerous creatures called monsters are trekking.

That is the abandoned city of Laval.

There were five people in front of the Adventurers' Association, an organization that brings together people who hold positions called adventurers, which is one of the biggest buildings in the abandoned city of Laval.

One is a man of his age, who should be called a boy, and whether or not he reaches 170 centimeters in height. The red-brown hair was cut in a mess, and the face looked old compared to the age, although it was somewhat ready.

He wears armor made of layers of leather and iron, and carries a large sword that exceeds his height, including a pattern on his back.

"I've been using the union all the time, but I don't like to call you on purpose..."

The boy - Reurus murmured with his hand on his chin. Then a girl standing next to such a realuse raised her eyebrows.

"Recently, even if I look around the city, I don't have much chance of encountering monsters..." I wonder if this is a special request?

Peachy blonde hair stretching to the waist and height of over 140cm. Although the body has little undulation overall, it has a lovely appearance and, contrary to the tone of voice, is one year younger than Reurus, but looks younger than the age difference.

Contrary to that lovely face, the equipment is obvious. Wears partial armor to protect vital organs, such as the heart, and a jacket the size of which hides the upper body.

On top of that, she held a boneless cane in her right hand beyond her height, and Eliza, a subhuman girl called a bloodsucker, leaned her neck to the words of Reurus.

"If the monster doesn't come out, I won't have a chance to bake the meat in Reurus! If it's a special request, I'll take it for a while! And I'll bake the meat!

Listening to Reurus and Eliza, the girl Sarah jumps cheerfully.

Eliza had two body shapes, including face, hair length, and height, but there was a clear difference between them. The color of the hair is dyed bright red, and the eyes are equally bright red.

The more I looked at Reurus, the more I thought it was "similar to Eliza, but different to my sisters", the better my health compared to Eliza was in the front.

If there's anything else that's different from Eliza's, she's probably not wearing any armor or weapons. Sarah is the Spirit of Fire and is free to manipulate flame magic without tools.

"Every time I find a monster, I suppose the monster stopped coming because I baked meat while I was there..."

Unlike Sarah, who barks vigorously, the girl - Meer - laughs modestly.

It is even smaller in comparison to Eliza and Sarah, who are small in size and about 135cm tall. Cut the brown hair into shortcuts, and the round eyes are impressive.

It is the smallest on the scene, but carries a huge bow on its back that exceeds its height. The armor wore the same partial armor as Eliza, but her body appeared to be ups and downs due to her height.

…………

And the last one, the Spirit Girl named Neddy by Reus, stared silently at the noisy Sarah.

Neddy is slightly shorter than Eliza and Sarah, and taller than Meer. Like Sarah, she didn't wear any armor or weapons, but she wrapped a light blue cloth around her neck that should be regarded as a feather coat.

The oldest, most silent and yet the most “feminine” of the four girls except Reurus.

"Hi woosh. Here we go, Mr. Kanji."

Reurus opens the doors of the Adventurers Association and steps into it. And when I casually called, Natalia, the woman Reurus called him, smiled bitterly.

Purple hair with a habit of stretching to the waist, looks like you can feel the color even if you are away. And the smoke tube that plays with her right hand is an impressive woman like comfort.

"On time... and don't make noise in front of the union. I can hear you all the way inside.

"That's rude. But it's always the case that Sarah's fine, isn't it?

For that matter, I cried loudly when I cried, but it was a revulsion that I wouldn't say.

The Adventurers Association, which many adventurers usually use, was designated to visit Natalia at a time when the receipt of the request had been suspended and became less popular.

Natalia deepened her bitterness by seeing through the heart of the Reurus what she was supposed to say.

"I'm not going to ask you for anything else. At least it should be easier than the special request the boy has received so far... unless something extra happens."

"Do you know him? That's what happens when you say that?

It was an unexpected Reurus staring at Natalia with a jito's eye, but Natalia turned the smoke tube around and said she was stunned.

"Given the boy's track record so far, isn't that a natural response?

"Gumu... I can't say back..."

Reurus had no choice but to retreat to Natalia's words.

A year has passed since Reurus became an adventurer in the abandoned city of Laval, during which time several disturbances occurred.

Fighting dangerous creatures called monsters - among them, monsters classified as advanced three times.

I fought three times a year against an advanced monster who could even describe a disaster as formidable.

Even if Vanille the Firedragon, the most powerful and unbeaten monster of all, was excluded, the giant worm called "Castle Collapse" and the giant slime known as "Country Eater" were killed with their lives.

It is no wonder what happened twice, and if it happened twice or three times, it is not surprising that “more” happens at the earliest.

Reurus, who therefore retreated to Natalia's words, encouraged the continuation of the conversation about what to do.

"This request is for investigation. I need you to investigate if there are any monsters out there in the early spring."

"Survey request? Is that what Senior Nicolas was doing right after I came to this town?

At that time, Reurus, who lived as a serf in his native village called Shena Village, was immediately sold out as a mine slave when he was seen to have reached the age of fifteen.

However, a monster called Kimira attacked me on the way to the mine, bought by a merchant, and I ran away with my life.

Reurus arrived in the abandoned city of Laval as he was about to die, and after a long turning he became an adventurer, but Nicolas and Sharon, senior adventurers, contracted to investigate the Kimira incident.

This time, Natalia suggested a similar request.

"At that time, the purpose was to investigate where Kimira was, so it was a little different. I'm not asking you to target a specific monster."

That's how Natalia looks at Sarah.

"I'll step into the woods and investigate if dangerous monsters are active... that's what I'm asking you to do. In early spring, many animals wake up from hibernation, so the monsters will be activated to target them."

"... it seems like hibernating animals are getting nervous. No, I guess I can't help but reason with the monster."

Natalia is right, in spring, the animals that were hibernating will also wake up. Even though the monster was said to be active in targeting such “ordinary animals”, the Reurus didn't have a pin.

Natalia smiles lightly at the mixed words of Reurus.

"As the boy became an intermediate adventurer, I thought I'd take care of a request from around here. Honestly, this request is like practice. Learn how to track monsters in the name of research requests... you will be able to locate monsters and practice them together, right?

"I see... such a request"

Reurus can detect signs of short-range monsters by sensing magic, and Sarah, the Spirit of Fire, can detect long-range sources of heat beyond Reurus.

I would have used it to find and track monsters.

"If you're practicing, is someone going to accompany you?... if you say so, Jilba-san will take the initiative to follow you."

Eliza, who was listening to Reurus and Natalia's conversation, wondered. When it comes to practice, I'm sure it's more efficient to have someone to teach.

"Eliza's daughter is right, but in your case, the search and tracking isn't normal, is it? As adventurers, the basics will be taught by Nicolas and Sharon, and we want them to try and make mistakes themselves."

Having said that, Natalia starts to narrow her face and close the story.

"I've said a lot, but the point is, why don't we try to extensively exterminate the monsters around the abandoned city of Laval... that's what I'm asking. I want you to investigate where he went as soon as there were fewer monsters around Laval Waste City."

"I wonder where he went... isn't he in Reurus' stomach? Fugga!?

Sarah leaned her head strangely against Natalia, who spoke with a serious expression. But immediately Eliza held Sarah's mouth in her hand.

"Shut up, my lord... the Reurus hasn't leveled all the monsters around you, has he?... no... right?

It was Eliza who stopped talking, but it seemed realistic enough to take a confirmation. Reurus shook his neck sideways as if he were stunned.

"That's not true, is it? Sometimes you've been away from town for a month or two because you asked me to do a Dragon Slash?

"That's right... is that it?

Especially since I left Laval Waste City for a long time to have my big sword named "Dragon Slash." It was a Reurus that said it was impossible, but it was a response that made me wonder if it would have been possible if Eliza hadn't left town.

With Eliza so inclined, Reurus leaked a convincing voice.

"Indeed, it sounds like a normal request to you... even if you're going to do it over a wide area, how far should I go?

"I'll leave that to the boys. Until I get used to it, I'm going on a day trip, and when I get used to it, I'm going camping... If you could get off the streets and prioritize research in the woods, it would help the union."

While saying so, Natalia took out a piece of paper. When Reurus peeks into it, it depicts a sad map that describes the nearby terrain, even though the scale is crazy.

"I'll lend you this map, so if you need anything, write it down... for Eliza's daughter."

"I can't read or write...."

Natalia lends out a valuable and important thing called a map, although there is a problem with accuracy. It was a revulsion that made me feel uncomfortable and unpleasant about the fact, but I contracted because it was a request prepared by Natalia.
