A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 263: Departure Day

And finally visited the day of departure.

I was worried because Natalia told me that I was leaving “as planned” the previous day, but fortunately the weather is blessing me and the sky is gradually getting brighter and brighter to the point where countless clouds are floating.

Ready for the journey, Reurus visited the Adventurers' Union early in the morning and met Natalia. If there's anything unusual about Natalia, it's not in the Adventurers Association, but in front of the entrance.

"Looks like you're ready."

"Ah... by the way, what's that?”

Though it could be an unprecedented journey, the journey itself has become familiar. For this reason, there is no anxiety about long journeys, but as a realuse, I am worried about the objects that sit in front of the Adventurers Association.

"What does it look like other than a truck?

"Yeah, I'm sure it only looks like a luggage truck... haven't you changed your shape?

With that in mind, Reurus turned to the van that was supposed to have been given to him by the Värg family.

The upper part of the body is arched, and by pulling up the cover, it can overcome the rain wind. By engraving the "magic letter" of "reinforcement" on the body, it improves durability and can be used as a carriage if dragged to the horse - that should have been the case.

But Reurus is right, the shape has changed. In the first place, the size itself has changed.

Previously, the size was such that two adults could fall asleep side by side, but the width alone made the rearview large enough to fall asleep. It will be about two meters wide and four meters long. The more careful the sleeper is, the bigger the revus can all fall asleep.

The arched roof part is box-shaped, and the shape of the skeleton is still strange. By the way, it is “movable", moreover, if the rear view is not mistaken, the columns connected to the body of the vehicle can be removed.

(I wonder what it is... uh, yeah, there's a tent on the body of the car...?

If you look closely, the front is doubled. Reurus moved the skeleton of the roof within the brain and “stretched” the double cover.

(At this length... there seems to be a tent next to the body. You mean you can stay in the rain when it rains, even outside the wagon?

When traveling, it is likely that an immediate tent that lowers the night dew can be used as a front wagon and when it is open at night.

Natalia smiled bitterly as Reurus stared at the truck.

"The cloth I use as a cover is woven with monster hair to increase its strength. It's greasy and waterproof, so you can play bows and arrows from a distance."

While saying that, Natalia looks at the center of the vehicle.

"And if I could hide my valuables. There's a lid in the middle of the truck, right? Please open it."

"Is this it?

Reurus puts his finger into the indentation on the bottom when he gets into the truck. Then the lid about 30 cm in all directions came off. It is also about thirty centimeters deep and contains several sachets.

When Reurus lifted one of the sachets, the sound of the coins rubbing against each other was heard. Apparently, they've prepared the military funds for the trip, but it's certainly a good space to hide the money.

(What is this hidden storage space... a bit manly)

It must be hard to be noticed if you close the lid and put something on it. The interior of the storage space is somehow painted black, but Reus leans his neck to see if it makes any sense.

And part of the bottom is a double bottom.

"Seriously... ah, it's true"

Grab a nail at the end and lift it to open the bottom further. It was only about ten centimeters long, but it was packed with objects wrapped in cloth. I thought it was something, and when Reus checked the contents, there were about ten large gold coins.

"Even if I put up a Spirit sign, I don't think I'll be able to inspect the shipment if I meet soldiers on the street. Even more so if you find out that you're from another country. I don't know what it is, so spend it to fund your trip, including that big coin."

"I see... you've never been too careful."

With the concealed lid closed, Reurus looks around the inside of the truck. There are many pots that Natalia thinks contain food, spices, and water, and a lot of hay that Natalia thinks was prepared for horses to tow cars.

"Is this a horse's leaf... can't we feed the grass on the way there?

"Oh, that's not for horses. I prepared it for Miss Ruvillia."

"... eh?

I wonder if you're going to eat hay, Reurus. If you're not hungry enough, you won't be able to eat hay even with the real Reurus. I think it would be better to eat the weeds that grow around it than to eat hay on purpose.

"You know what you're thinking... you can't just put a chair or a bedding on it, can you? That's why I wanted you to lay a cloth on the hay and make it an instant bed."

"Ah... I wonder if that kind of consideration is necessary."

Even Natalia doesn't seem to tell me to fall asleep on the ground. It may not be like a bed used by a nobleman, but it is much better than sleeping on the ground or on the floor of a truck.

"You and Eliza's daughters are used to it, so it'll be okay, but from the noble daughters, it'll be hard just to move around during the day. Remain a little tired and be careful not to make you feel any worse... okay?

"Yes. I'll be careful around here."

Reurus responded casually to Natalia's call for attention. Eliza looked as if she had said something to them, but there was a shadow that approached her before she actually uttered the word.

"Good morning, everyone."

It was Gilba who smiled with such a greeting. I thought something was wrong with Reurus, but I thought he might have come to see me off, so I smiled.

"Good morning, Mr. Gilba. I'll ask for this town while we're gone."

I hunt monsters around the abandoned city of Laval as long as possible before I leave. Still, powerful monsters don't come from anywhere at all.

There are several dwarfs, such as Calvin, but none of them are as reliable as Gilba in times of need.

"I can't promise you as a Spirit, but as one of the inhabitants of this town, I will spare no effort."

That's very pleasant.

There is also a combination of positions, but it seems that they will help me if it happens. When Reurus was reassured, Gilba took something out of her pocket.

"This is a farewell from me. I think it's strange to give it to Sarah and Neddy, but if you're going to behave like a Spirit, please take it with you."

That's what Gilba handed him, a necklace that he thought was like the Great Spirit. It was a substitute to show that they were spirituals, but it was certainly strange to give them to the two spirits who were the subject of faith.

Reus bears witness to the "Guest", and Meer originally believed in the Spirit of Fire. So Eliza, Sarah, and Neddy took the necklace and put it around their necks.

"It suits you well. Now, I pray for the protection of the Great Spirit."

Then Gilba and Natalia, with their hands on their right chest, greeted him with a serious expression, and Reurus and the others set out from the abandoned city of Laval.

The Reurus, who left the abandoned city of Laval, first headed towards the east gate of Laval to join Collard and Ruvillia.

As Reurus dragged the wagon and walked, he saw three figures in the distance.

One is Collard, who has become familiar with Reurus, and has no metal armor because he travels as a Spirit. Like visiting the abandoned city of Laval, it was light enough to be close to adventurers and suitable for travelling.

Long trousers on top and bottom sleeves, comfortable shoes, and a thin jacket. He wears a dagger around his waist, but judging by his appearance, he looks like a merchant, not a knight or an adventurer.

He held a rope in his hand, as did a horse to tow the wagon. However, there were only two horses that knew about the modification of the wagon.

Behind such a collard was two women.

One is Ruvillia, escorted on this journey, and the other is Anemone, Ruvillia's maid, who is face-to-face in the House of the Viscount of Werg.

(... heh)

After seeing Ruvillia and Anemone, Reurus raised his voice of admiration in a small voice.

I didn't expect them to travel in dresses and made-to-measure clothes, but their outfits were “stronger” than expected.

Perhaps to make it easier to walk, Ruvillia puts silky blonde hair that stretches back to her waist in a ponytail shape.

The outfit also focused on ease of movement, with long-sleeved trousers and leather shoes at the feet and a clear willingness to bet on travel.

Anemone also looks similar to Ruvillia - but it would be a big difference if she wore a dagger around her waist. The blade is not so long, but it feels so boneless that it can be used in battle.

"This is a meeting of all of us."

Collard murmurs as he sees Reurus dragging his wagon. And I looked back and I thought I looked at Ruvillia.

"Now, Master Ruvillia, I'm going to leave... are you sure?

Collard asks as if Ruvillia is ready. Ruvillia nods little by little to Collard's question and takes a step forward to look around at Reurus and the others.

"It's been a long time, everyone. I'm Ruvillia-Vis-secre-de-Verg. Thank you for accepting this request."

That's what I want to thank you for, Ruvilia. Reurus didn't care so much because the thank you was so natural, but Eliza and others opened their eyes to surprise.

"I'm afraid I may cause you a lot of trouble... but I'd appreciate it if you could join me, Anemone.

Is it to hide your anxiety about the journey or is it genuine? Ruvillia greets again with a smile.

It was a revulsion that could not be said about the low attitude, but I noticed that Annemone's expression was painfully distorted as she looked down at Ruvillia.

Does the status quo bother you, or does it bother you that Ruvillia is lowering her head - or something else?

"... I will do my best even more than I have been asked to do."

Therefore, Reurus also responded administratively, loading the collards' luggage into the truck, connecting the horses, and turning east.
