A Chronicle of Life in a Different World
Chapter 269: Part 6 of the Journey
White smoke in the distance. The amount of smoke is not unusual and is much higher than that rising from a fire or cooking smoke.
Collard also found the smoke, turning his eyes sharply in the direction indicated by Reurus.
"That... seems to be burning. Judging by the amount of smoke, it seems to be quite large....."
The smoke rises just ahead of the streets where Reurus and the others were about to go. It won't take more than an hour to make progress at this pace, and if we hurry, we'll be able to reach half of it, and if we hurry with Reurus and Eliza alone, we'll be able to reach half of it.
"... is there any other way?
Avoid trouble. Reurus shook the conversation, but Collard shook his head sideways with a sharp expression.
"There are no other roads that are so well maintained that I can pass by a carriage, and that I know of."
That's how Reurus looks around. It's a sparsely wooded plain, but it doesn't look like there's a well-maintained path, as Collard said.
"Just a little more... it's been about half a day, but as we go down this road, there's a fort in La Paris. But I've never heard of a place so close to Mataroi that smoke would come from it."
"What line is the forest burning?
"I don't think so... If the trees are burning, more smoke will come out."
Apparently, as far as Collard knows, artifacts are only half a day's walk away, and nothing is visible from where they are now.
"I can't turn back... but it's dangerous to stay here. There's only one way forward."
"Danger... ah, vah... no, it's near the Fire Dragon territory."
Reurus who can name Vanille and pull it in. From Collard, Anemone, and Ruvillia, it seems that “something” happens further away than the presence of Vanier.
"Hmm... I'm going to proceed with vigilance for a moment. Reurus needs a scout. May I have your maid, too?
"I will obey Lord Collard's judgment. I'll be by Lady Ruville's side."
Anemone pulls herself into the carriage and Collard jumps to the edge of the carriage to support her horse. Reurus walks out to the front of the carriage and invites Sarah.
Well then, Sarah and I will go first. Meer and Neddy watch the back of the carriage. Eliza will escort the carriage with Mr. Collard. "
When Reurus rushed out after declaring so, Sarah jumped next to her.
"It's finally time! I'll burn it to the point where I can't beat that smoke!
"If the monster is the target, you can burn it, but first we need to check the situation. If you're wrong, don't shoot magic all of a sudden.
Don't shoot, never shoot, Reurus warns. We're already on the border between Mataroi and Rapali, and we don't know where they're coming from.
If you attack a soldier in Rapali by mistake, this request will fail. We can't just take Ruvillia into the woods.
While doing so, Reurus and Sarah rushed down the street in a way that preceded the carriage. And as he approached the distance where the smoke came from and where he thought it came from, he lurked in the trees next to the street.
"Sarah."
"I'm searching, I'm searching... hmm... hmm? I can't count because the numbers are... twenty... thirty... yeah... moving around. In the meantime, there are three fevers moving around fast, and the fever confronting them is around 20 to 30? You got a lot of fever out there?
While listening to Sarah's voice, Reurus gently emerged from the shade of the tree. We're 300 meters away from each other, but we just need to check the situation.
"Is that... 'station'? But it's huge for that...."
What Reurus saw in his vision was a square structure like the Station that he had used before.
If there is a difference, is it that the wooden fence is well built compared to the "station", and the empty moat is also deep and large? The empty borehole is nearly 100 meters long on one side, and there are compartments where earth walls are installed using the excavated soil.
Some wooden buildings were simplified in the "station", but soldiers wearing armor, people working in civil engineering, and thinkers rushed around busily. Looking further around, I could see a building and wooden fence that was either the source of smoke or a huge fire.
Vooooooooooooooooooo!
Then you hear a strange noise from afar. It is a tremendous roar that shakes the atmosphere despite the distance.
"Ah... is that... a monster like Cars who fought before?
Reurus, who heard the sound, pulled out his memory and murmured.
Is that thing like Hikudri out of control? Then this noise is also convincing.....)
That's what Sarah said about the 'fast moving heat source'. Reurus decided to stop gathering information once and return to the path where he wanted to bring Sarah.
"Did you find out something?
As Reurus and Sarah return, Collard asks briefly. His expression was serious and he was keen to get into battle right away.
"It looks like a monster is attacking a place like the Station... that monster."
Reurus explained to Collard that he saw the monster far away.
Though it can only be seen smaller than bean grains, Reurus looks at the monster in his own sight and frowns on grandeur.
The body is about three meters in size, and the overall color scheme is bright red. If you compare this figure with the knowledge of Reurus, it is a red ostrich.
It moves with two feet, but the muscles are very developed, and the nails covering the toes are sharp and seem sturdy. The slightly elongated neck was long, and the head had spikes.
--Definitely the same kind of monster as the Hikuidori who fought before.
"Looks like you're confused. Do you want to make a little detour and run? Some of them are like soldiers, so if they find us, we'll be in trouble."
In the current situation, if we slightly miss the street, we'll be able to get through without being noticed. Scaffolding is troublesome, but Calvin's modified carriage is very sturdy and can run some rough roads.
"No... this is an opportunity. If you go down the street, you don't want to join the soldiers. This is where we sell our gratitude and make our journey easier."
However, Collard's judgment was to proceed. It was a revulsion that jumped one eyebrow at the decision, but Collard kept saying it before saying anything.
"But I don't think most monsters would take a step backwards if you were me... Reurus, is that monster strong?
"Strong."
Because they asked, I assure you, Reurus. Behind his head was the figure of a once belligerent sunflower.
"Not to mention advanced, the individual I fought before was as strong as the adult Kimira. It seems that there are individual differences, but even if it is weak, it seems to be an intermediate monster."
"... so much"
"Yes, I'm more confident than I was before, but I don't know what happens when I fight one-on-one... and I'm strong, but I'm smart."
They use feints, dare to smash their eyes with sand, and use technology that makes them wonder if there are humans inside. Perhaps only the individuals Reurus engaged were special, but Gilba was also intelligent and annoying.
"Nuu... it would be better to sit still in terms of protecting Ruvillia's self. But...."
For some reason, Collard looks lost. I didn't feel like sticking my neck in trouble as a realus, and I wanted to avoid it if I could.
"Mr. Collard? Something..."
"Ah."
Sarah raised her voice the moment Reurus tried to speak up. Something Reurus looked at, but Sarah opened her eyes with her eyes wide open.
"It's moving from over there, or it's coming this way!?
"Haah!?
Reurus hastily checked the situation, but Sarah was right and saw a sunflower coming. They weren't targeting the Reuses, they happened to be there in the direction of travel.
"Vuuuuuuuuuuuu!
The Hikuidori who noticed the Reurus roars and speeds up. The roar surprised the horse that was connected to the carriage, but Collard aggressively manipulated the rope and stopped it just before it was about to break out.
"Shit... Sarah and Neddy need backup! Eliza and Meer, protect Mr. Ruvillia!
If Hikuidori is the opponent, he will need to fight with all his might. Reurus releases "Dragon Slash" from his sheath, and uses "Caloric Release" to rush out and fill the distance at once.
Hikuidori's body was carved with several wounds, either because he had been at war with a soldier who had been at a place he thought was "the station". The bright red feathers are dyed black everywhere and the scratches are not shallow.
Vooooooooooooooooooo!
"SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
Still, there was no fading dust in the momentum of the thrusting sunflower. Therefore, Reurus roared from the bottom of his belly, and shook the "Dragon Slash" to intercept him directly from the front.
After seeing the movement of Reurus, Hikuidori jumped with the momentum of running, kicking forward at the speed of cutting the wind. The blow has a hard nail, and even the iron plate will easily punch through.
Reurus stepped in with all his might, not to say twisted down with force. Turning to the nails of the hikuidori approaching his face, he shook the "Dragon Slash" he was carrying straight down.
Collard taught me various techniques, but I can't afford to be aware of how to swing a sword and how to carry my feet with a monster like Hikuidori. The body of Reurus is not soaked with technology enough to perform aggressively during sudden battles.
Nevertheless, the body of Reurus was moving naturally so as not to kill the force of tread as much as possible, and not to hinder the movement of weight.
"Hmm!?
Vo!?
Reurus and Hikuidori shouted in surprise at the same time.
Reurus, who intercepted the kick in front of the Hikuidori, ran through the rear of the Hikuidori with the "Dragon Slasher" “shaken off” state. The "Dragon Slasher" blade, which collided with the nails of the Hikuidori and was thought to be bounced back, was completely shaken off leaving only a slight touch in the hands of the Reurus.
Vova!?
Leaving it for a moment, Hikuidori shouted in surprise. Because my proud nails that kicked to pieces, whether metal or metal, were slashed and flew away, causing me to be late and painful.
(This one... has the flavor of "Dragon Slash", but it was “easy to slash”...)
Previously, when Reurus engaged Hikudori, he was using a dagger that Dominic gave him away. It is still a memorable weapon, but compared to Dragon Slash, it is undeniable that the sharpness is dull and the robustness is far inferior.
The Dragon Slasher is a magical tool that allows you to meet Vernier, the Fire Dragon, straight away, and even if you slay the slime, it will wear off slightly. The sharpness is the result of the addition of sharpening diamonds that were accumulating in the reals, albeit only slightly.
"I see... just a little... a little, but you know how the Gregorians feel."
Reurus lifted the edge of his mouth and laughed fiercely in front of Hikkuidori, each with his nails cut to the middle of one leg.
