A Chronicle of Life in a Different World
Episode 280: A Temporary Break
The journey has been going well since Keith and the Gregorians attacked us.
No more raids, no more Rebecca attacks, Reurus secretly feared, follow the streets. There were no bandits attacking regardless of Gregorianism.
It was a peaceful journey to attack monsters to replenish the magic with reduced revulsions, rest in a town on the route, and buy away the sugar and spices that were sold in the town.
That's how I travel for less than half a month.
Though slightly behind schedule, Reurus, a few days away from the destination's big forest, took a break in a fortress city called Arras.
When I left Aarhus, there was no town to stop by until I arrived at my destination, and I planned to stay for about two days with food replenishment and rest.
Since there was a spiritual church, it does not take private lodgings for sleeping, and is taken care of by the church by revealing that it is a spiritualist and his guests. The same was true of the towns that had stopped by to reach Aalas, at Collard's suggestion.
"A journey to find the 'altar' with women and children... no, it's a nasty act."
The spirituals who govern the church of Arras were the good old men. I nodded impressively when I heard the purpose of the journey that Reurus and the others were putting forward.
"No, not really... so if you know anything, I'd like to know."
It is Reurus who speaks with a smile. He is the only Spiritual Guest, and he spearheads the conversation because he is in the position of escort on this trip.
"Hmm... I'll tell you where the 'altar' is if you know where it is, or where it is blind... if you're a pious spiritual, you could risk your life."
The elderly man said with his eyebrows raised, but this was the same reaction as the spirituals he had seen in other towns. The 'altar' for offering prayers to spirits is known as knowledge, but we do not know where it actually is.
"Really... I found an 'altar' around Mount Veos to offer prayers to the Spirit of Fire, so I thought I'd find an 'altar' if it's a place where people don't usually come near..."
"Hmm... maybe that's the big forest of Lille, just northeast of this town."
Reurus raised his hand in his heart to the words of the elderly man. Still, I kept a smile on the surface and nodded convincingly.
"I see. I've talked to the church in the towns I've been to, and you've all said the same thing. I wonder if that forest is possible."
That's what Reurus said to deepen his smile.
(Now there is no problem in creating an "Outward Reason”....)
That's what I think in my heart, but I don't put it out.
What Reurus is doing is simple, and it is a reason to go where he thinks Unicorn is.
I entered the country in search of the 'altar', so I'm doing something commensurate with it. I've been leading a little word, but I'm listening to the Spirits on the way to where they're going, so that even if Reurus and the others go straight to their destination, they won't be suspected.
There are people who have been following the Reurus ever since they entered Rapali. The number of followers fluctuates every time I come to town, but I think I'm taking over “work” from the landlord.
What Reurus is doing is taking measures against such a tail, and he is standing around to avoid complaining later. Every time I stopped by town, I stayed at a spiritual church, but when I heard the story, I made an “alibi” so that I could say that the destination was decided.
However, that is not the only purpose for which the church is used. It was unnatural for traveling spirituals not to use the church, but it was also a countermeasure against the Gregorians.
In doctrinal terms, Gregorians seldom target humans. Still, I was trying to get information from the Spirits in order to check the trends of the neighboring Gregorians and be able to deal with them in time even in the event of another raid.
Reurus is dealing with an elderly man in front of him, but Collard and others are going out to town to gather information. Eliza and the others were told to rest as long as they could, while taking care of Ruvillia's escort.
Reus, who exchanged information with an elderly man, turned his feet to the back of the church. Like the church in the abandoned city of Laval, we know where to pray and where to live, and among them, we are headed to the guest rooms addressed to the Ruvillians.
(I haven't seen the Unicorn yet, and I need to go back the way I came when I turned around... have you managed to get there?)
While thinking about the future, Reurus strokes his left arm from above his nails.
The left arm wounded in the fight with Keith and the others is already blocked, but the hole in the nail has not been completely repaired. Although Meer blocked it with monster leather as a first aid, only that part of it was in a state of reduced strength.
(There was no Gregorian raid, no suspicious tail besides a soldier... I thought a bandit would attack for a while.)
Is it a coincidence, or was it walking along the street? If you see a bandit who doesn't know the identity of the Reurus, he'll look like a delicious duck, but he didn't get caught in Sarah's detection net.
Since not only bandits but also intermediate and higher monsters never attacked, they attacked monsters from the Reurus to replenish their magic and food, but they have also traveled so far. Ruvillia and Anemone didn't complain about getting used to it.
(Is this country more secure than Mataroi? No, I don't want you to attack me, and it's troublesome to be attacked...)
No matter how many bandits they are, if they kill them, what does the tail think? It's not just people who are as enthusiastic and “talkative” as Collard.
It was Reurus who was thinking about it, but he arrived in front of the room where Ruvillia and the others were staying and stopped.
Eliza and the others are with us as escorts, so I thought we could talk a little bit about our plans for the future.
"... hmm?
However, Reurus stood in front of the door and heard a rattling footsteps from inside the room. For a moment I wondered if they were attacking me, but I couldn't hear a noisy voice.
It was a realuse that tried to open the door after knocking for the first time, but the door opened first. And when I think that Annemone let me peek at her face, she comes out with a quick move.
"Mr. Anemone? What's the matter with you?
"This way."
Something twisted his neck, but Reus was prompted by Anemone to leave the door.
Keith and the Gregorians protected Ruvillia from the raid, and the atmosphere of Anemone was much more relaxed than it was at the beginning of the journey. Or did Anemone lower her “position” by giving off a fever while her master, Ruvillia, was being attacked?
Anemone, who was so far away from the room that he could not hear, opened his mouth in a way that seemed difficult to say.
"I was supposed to stay in this town for two days, but can I extend it by three more days, no, two more days... one more day?
"Suddenly... maybe Ruvillia's not feeling well?
If that's the case, there's nothing you can do about extending your stay. Almost a month has passed since we started our journey, and Ruvillia should be exhausted.
I was able to rest as much as I could, sleep at night, and sleep on the beds every time I came to town, but Ruvillia didn't have much health. He would have gained a little physical strength by continuing his journey, but he should have accumulated fatigue both physically and mentally.
"Are you feeling sick... no, I can say that..."
But Anemone's reaction is strange. It sounds like something stuck in my back teeth and it's hard to say anywhere.
(Told the customer immediately if she felt ill during her previous trip, and she took a rest every time. It's kind of hard to say... uh...)
Reurus watched Anemone strangely, but I felt like I couldn't say anything while I was thinking. I've come up with an idea of what's going on in Ruville.
Misunderstood, it wasn't a joke, but apparently Ruvillia was attacked by "regular illness.”
"... you must be tired of traveling. Please tell her to rest slowly. I'll let you know when Mr. Collard gets back."
Speaking with his true face, Reus decided to go outside to guard the church area.
(It would be nice if you could tell me that you're not feeling well... no, I don't know which way you think Sarah's noise is going to spread... me and Mr. Collard are tired.)
For the time being, I had time to rest together. It's also close to your destination, so it's a good idea to take a break before looking for a unicorn.
Reurus decided to leave the church behind.
"Even so, priest, were you really happy?
"What are you still saying...?"
Hearing the words of his men, Keith answered with a sigh. This exchange has been going on many times, and it's about time I got in trouble.
"You want to report that you disobeyed Rebecca's instructions? I don't like it. Besides, it was a good job to fail anyway."
Keith and the others continued into the woods as they spoke. The forest was the big forest of Lille, the destination of the Reurus.
"In general, if you really want to kill me, there's only one person coming out of the bishop's side... well, if it's a" normal opponent ”, we could have done it alone."
"Is that the rumored 'Prince'... I don't think I envy you because we're close to Rebecca?
"The bishop has a beautiful face, and he may have a bad body...."
The drawbacks we have dispel those beauty points. Keith walks the path without a path, even as he exchanges such words.
"It's true we lost our weapons. I can't go back if I don't make a souvenir of the information that leads to an advanced monster."
"I hear there's a unicorn in that forest...."
"I don't know what they're after... if they're extremists... huh?
And Keith looked back at the feeling of discomfort. It hasn't gotten that far into Lille's woods, but someday his subordinate's sacrifice stopped.
"Hey, what's up? Something happened!?
I noticed it because of Keith's training and experience.
I had a bad feeling about running through my body and pulling out the hidden dagger at the same time - but it was too late.
Light, windy sensations and sounds. When Keith perceived it, it was all over.
In Keith's sight, the neck of the sacrificial priest who had stopped his feet fell. It seemed that the other subordinates who were at the edge of the line of sight were similar, and their necks rolled and fell with their eyes opened strangely.
And Keith's vision drifted and darkened.
Kiki kiki kiki kiki!
In his disappearing consciousness, Keith felt as if he had heard a deafening voice laughing with joy.
