A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 305: The Tale of the Ten Hard Workers

A room in an inn located within the walls of the fortified city of Laval.

It is a simple room with beds, desks, and chairs, although it is large enough for one person to stay overnight.

In such a room, Collard sat on his chair and turned to his desk.

"Hmm...."

Looking at the objects placed on the desk, Collard cried out loudly.

A wooden desk that is not so large is small for large collards. As a result, he struggles with the work in front of him while shrinking his body.

On the desk are several pieces of paper and quills, ink pots and writing tools. Along with them were three “wooden containers” and three wooden plates.

With one wooden container in his hand, Collard opens the lid and flips it over, smashing the contents into a wooden dish. And when I checked that all the pills left came out, I started counting the pills with my eyes closed.

"Subtract from the total... hmm..."

Collard holds a quill and writes letters and numbers on the paper while nodding several times.

Same for the two remaining containers, place the contents on a wooden dish and check the number of pills.

"Big, medium, small... ah... it's troublesome..."

Collard couldn't stop his hand while looking pathetic in front of his men.

Check the number of pills, and then look at the thin fabric removed from anywhere and write letters and numbers on the paper.

"This is the only number of steps on the first day... the distance to the 'station'..."

Collard murmurs with bumps, but only because there are no signs of people around.

The inmates were told not to approach the room, and they said the same to their men. Given the importance of the work we're doing now, I wanted others to know about it and get in the way.

What Collard is doing.

It is the task of summarizing the results of “walking”.

This trip was a rare opportunity to actually travel to other countries - the biggest in the continent, La Paris - and gather information from a knight's perspective.

I couldn't bring in the tools to record because I was troubled by what the soldiers in Rapari saw. To compensate for this, wooden containers and pills were prepared, and the distance traveled was determined by the number of pills taken.

How to calculate the distance traveled and how to remember it was thoroughly prepared when I was in the King's army. Such versatility is also the cause of Collard's convenient use, but it is also divided into things that can't be helped to get out of the world.

On the other side of Reurus' treatment of Ruvillia, Collard concealed his feelings as a knight.

Information is power. Collard's journey is only a further part of the northern part of Rapali, but the information gained is invaluable, such as walking along the streets of neighboring countries, where they are, and how far away they are from each other.

Even as a Mataroi, we don't actually plan to attack “so far," but the information we actually gained from walking around is invaluable.

The journey with the presence of Ruvillia was troublesome, but convenient for Collard. Bring the wagon and move it to Ruvillia's feet close to “normal march speed."

“Ordinary Soldiers” who can't use magic and are armed with metal armor, etc., do not move so fast. Acting as an army also required food and water, medicine and firewood, as well as spare weapons and armaments, and this trip was a valuable experience if you think you acted as a waste squad loaded with them.

Among the many fortressed cities that stopped on the road, it would be quite a feat to report collectively, such as market trends, rumours spoken by people on the road, and information obtained at the spiritual church that was taken care of.

As a result, Collard, who returned to Laval, was struggling with documents to record the information first. I could have compiled the information when I returned to Mataroi across the border, but I was alert to the tail, and I refrained from leaving it in writing until I returned to Laval.

Not only Collard, but also Reurus are rarely approached through their vigilance.

Yes - "rarely" is not zero.

At least one of Collard's acquaintances is here. Rather, it seems to be under surveillance now, so it's a little scary.

You don't have to be afraid to be on your side, but your former boss (Natalia) is.

"But... I don't know about Reurus."

Then, Collard, whose concentration was interrupted, murmured.

I was questioned about the wooden container, but it has been lowered without any particular pursuit. Was it because you trusted Collard, or was it because you thought it was okay?

If you think you have strange knowledge, the common sense part is sometimes missing. Still, overall, there is close knowledge to the knight Collard, and he seems to be able to respond with courtesy if he wants to.

(... well, the captain is holding the rope around here, okay?)

I don't know where it came from, but I think it's a big pickup. He also has a strong feeling for Natalia's ruling abandoned city of Laval and the ability to defeat the "Neck Hunt" alone.

It is an unimportant opponent who is bound together - sometimes I think the stomach wall is about to shave, but it is not bad character.

In the first place, it was the existence of Reurus that made it possible to rent Spiritual signs on this trip. Without it, we would not have been able to travel in relative peace.

Any country, not just Mataroi, is attempting to spy on another country to obtain information. And, of course, there is no country that leaves behind spies.

Kill them immediately, spit out information, swim or hug them. Though there are several options, it's only natural to prepare yourself for spying.

In that regard, Reurus has made it a spiritual "guest" who does not try to get involved in politics as much as possible, and he is also welcoming “um” Gilba. Opportunities to shake major players and investigate other countries are rare.

In addition, Lewis told me that Neddy next to Reurus was very likely to be a spiritual person, but Sarah was no different - and Collard felt pain in his stomach.

(Except for the aristocracy, which is the supreme category for bonding... how Gilba moves if he inadvertently leaks the existence of the Spirit... and Gregorianism...)

Collard took his stomach medicine as he was used to it and exhaled.

As far as spiritualism is concerned, being able to obey spirits is no less than being a spiritual teacher. Rather, it is better than a spiritual teacher who only has the "protection" of the spirits.

That's probably all, but Reus took down the "neck hunt" on his own. This is a great endeavor that the bishop invites in Gregory.

They do not acquire public power, such as royalty and nobility, or powerful people in the land. It is nevertheless a troubling thing to leave alone. As far as people near Reurus are concerned, they may be as influential as Zilba.

(In that sense, if you are tied to Lord Ruvillia... no, I don't think so.)

Behind Collard's head comes Ruvillia, who travelled with him for a long time.

A girl who has long been rumored to be weak as the second daughter of the Viscount of Velg. It was also improved by this journey and is now en route to the fortified city of Accra, home to the Värg family.

I can see that Ruvillia had a lot of thoughts about Reurus. If Reurus had accepted Ruville, there would have been many paths.

Let Reurus marry him as a “connection” to the forthcoming independent city of Laval, and hence to Natalia. Alternatively, let Reus enter Ruvillia's son-in-law and set up a family.

The former allows the Raval Waste City to be influenced through the Reurus after independence, while the latter brings in the power to take on the 'head hunt' alone.

If Reurus had joined Ruvillia's son-in-law and set up a family, he would have been a knight from the beginning with the help of the Viscount Velg. Given the youthfulness and strength of Reurus, it is likely that he will be able to stack up his medals and reach the Baron Quasi.

But that didn't happen. Ruvillia also prioritized her role as a nobleman.

Rather than saying that they had bad personality and compatibility, it was just that their position and “timing” were bad.

If Reurus is unlikely to be his son-in-law, he could choose how to send Ruvillia as his daughter-in-law. However, it will take some years for the abandoned city of Laval to take shape, even if it were to become independent, which would make Ruvillia wait for years.

In the meantime, if Reurus dies and the bride talk flows, it will be difficult for Ruvillia to get married.

Even Ruvillia, as it stands, is in the second half of her marriage age, considering her as a child of nobility. It was not strange for a noble child to get married at the stage of childbearing, and for an early child to get engaged from birth and spend time together from a young age.

And even if Ruvillia waited for a few years, she didn't have the idea of being connected to Reurus. As the second daughter of the Värg family, she immediately moves to serve as a daughter of nobility.

Ruvillia would have as many choices as she had to choose her daughter-in-law. However, there are not many “people who are working the same way” in addition to being limited to opponents that are commensurate with the family's personality.

(I wouldn't hesitate to agree...)

Marrying a noble daughter is not something you can do just because you want. It is a shortcut to birth and how many people want it.

However, Collard understood that it was only troublesome from a person who was not obsessed with power like Reurus.

(But even if I lay down on the side about Lord Ruvillia, it's going to be tough. I would like to take care of you as I taught you the sword.....)

From now on, Collard was worried that a knight might be caught in a situation where he couldn't help himself. Even if there is an intention, it is a bad story to wake up when being close to an apprentice gets into trouble.

(... don't do anything about it, Captain, right?)

If any of Collard's colleagues or subordinates had the opportunity to come out of the world like Reurus, they would have been jealous and angry. But if I knew Natalia was in control, I would feel sympathy before jealousy.

Thus, Collard temporarily ejected the presence of Reurus from the brain.

Once this job is done, we will rarely face each other. If that is the case, we will deal with it according to the time.

But Collard didn't know.

I could not have known that there was a future waiting for me to become involved with Reurus every time something happened.
