A Chronicle of Life in a Different World
Episode 313: The New Sword
The next day, Reurus, who was ready earlier than usual, was on his way to Calvin, as Meer told him last night.
Eliza and the others would normally go to the Adventurers' Union to receive a farm worker escort. Depending on the time, Reurus intended to rendezvous after receiving the sword.
On the way from home to the Adventurers' Union, Reurus leaves the boulevard and travels south of town.
Calvin sleeps at the edge of Laval Waste Town, considering the noise involved in blacksmithing. There was a workshop for the blacksmiths who used to live in Laval Waste City, but now Calvin, who rolled into the workshop, is the owner of the blacksmith.
The size of the workshop is as large as that of the Adventurers' Union, but the difference is probably the thickness of the building's walls. It is built with soundproofing in mind so as not to disturb the surroundings as much as possible.
However, it seems that the soundproofing was not significant in the first place, and most of it has been improved by the hands of Calvin and Dwarves. As a result, there were no complaints from neighbors about the extent to which they worked during the day.
When Reurus arrived at the workshop and stepped in, Calvin appeared to be ready or waiting for a blacksmith.
"Oh, Reurus."
"Good morning, Grandma. Meer told me to come and see the sword...."
I looked around, but there were no other blacksmiths. Did Calvin take it off, or did he start work earlier?
"Ahh... it took shape..."
Normally, it is a luxurious Calvin and his strange voice tone. Reurus frowned at the appearance of Calvin.
But?
"... it's faster to actually try it. It's him."
That's how Calvin handed me the sheathed sword. Reurus accepts the sword, questioning Calvin's attitude.
Nearly two months have passed since I handed over the Neck Hunting materials. Even during the "Dragon Slash", it didn't take so much time, and it is a revulsion that heartily feels excited about what kind of sword was finished.
"Hmm? Because of your mind, it seems to be light...."
The first thing I noticed was the lightness of the sword. It felt lighter than expected, even though it was in the sheath.
"A slender sword? Or is it shorter than the sheath length?
"... try to pull it out with your magic. But be careful."
It would mean it would be quicker to actually see it. But I also felt that Calvin's remarks were strange along the way.
Still, when Reus put his hand on the handle of the sword, he slowly pulled it out, passing through the magic like when he pulled out the Dragon Slash.
"Oh... this is..."
A black sword is visible in most of Reurus's sights, pulling out the sword. It wasn't black, but it was a hue that should be appreciated even with wet feathers. Still, the blade is polished well and the sparkle of silver is dazzling.
Reurus, who completely pulled the sword out of the sheath, watched carefully from the tip to the handle.
The length of the sword is slightly shorter at about 60 cm, but it is longer than the dagger as desired. It seemed slightly warped and easy to slash, and the thickness of the sword was also slightly thinner than that of a regular sword.
The length of the pattern is also short, meaning whether or not it can be gripped with both hands. Reurus takes a distance from Calvin, grips him with his right hand and waves his sword twice or three times, but the shortness and lightness of his sword seem to make it easier to get around.
The “center of gravity” of the sword is also a revulsion favorite, and there is no discomfort even if you actually swing it. There was a different response to waving the Dragon Slash.
"Reus"
Called by his name, Reurus looks at him, and Calvin throws something in a stick. When he saw it, Reurus immediately waved his sword and struck the flying object with the blade.
"... hmm?
With far fewer responses than imagined, Reurus inadvertently leaked his voice. I thought maybe I missed my sight, but the object Calvin threw was cut in half and fell to the floor, making a tall sound.
"Hey... is this iron? Don't throw stuff... that?
Calvin threw an iron rod nearly a centimeter wide. Reus doubted that he could cut it easily and dropped his gaze on the sword in his right hand.
"What's wrong with this sword... I think I just slashed it..."
It is too light a response to slashing iron. In the first place, it is not usually the case that an unsecured iron rod is cut in the air.
Calvin sighed deeply at Reurus, who didn't notice.
"I've tried everything in the last two months... and it's become a form that specializes in sharpness. Toughness will be inferior to your great sword, but it's“ pretty good. "At least you can't break it by swinging it around."
That said, Calvin's expression seemed somewhat dissatisfied. Realizing that Reurus looked strange, Calvin began to take a little distance from the Reurus.
"By the way... do you feel any discomfort?
Feeling uncomfortable?
Not only does Calvin distance himself, he somehow gets a huge battle hatch. And he narrowed his eyes to watch out for Reurus' movements.
"... is Grandma's attitude strange?
"That's not what I'm talking about... but at that rate, it doesn't seem to be a problem."
As Calvin exhales, he approaches the Reurus little by little.
"I don't think there's a problem... could something go wrong?
In doubt, Reurus decided to put the sword in his sheath for now. Then Calvin obviously exhales in relief.
"Phew... I'm glad I didn't have to tell you that I wanted to kill anybody or anything..."
"... eh? Hey, wait... what's that disturbing remark?"
Reurus asks with his face. Calvin's remarks clearly smelled dangerous. Pointing that out, Calvin turns a blind eye.
"No, well, what is it... when I'm sharpening that sword, I want to unexpectedly try it out... because I want to slash it..."
"... Grandma? That's obviously bad, isn't it?
Reurus looks at the sword in his sheath, but Calvin's desire does not spring. Still, he turned a little blame to Calvin, who had created a disturbing substitute.
"That's what I said! The sharpness is really amazing!? Too many choices, so it's not like your big sword!
And Calvin develops his claims. I can assure you that I did a good job as a blacksmith, but it is not funny that the demonic sword and demon sword were completed.
"Then at least tell me beforehand!? What are you gonna do if you chop your grandmother off?!
"I made my own sword! Then you'll be slaughtered! We need to make sure we can use these kinds of weapons, even if they're" out of control "!
"Don't let me kill your grandmother! And I can't feel anything from this sword!
In the unlikely event, Calvin was going to be slaughtered honestly as responsible for making the sword, but I wanted to tell him not to give it to Reurus before that.
I don't understand Reurus, but it may also be the artisan's insistence that he can be slaughtered if he makes his own weapon.
Reurus sighs deeply when he argues with Calvin.
"Yes... are you sure you want to keep this? Don't you want to kill people all of a sudden?
"To be swayed by a sword." That's a good part of being a swordsman.
"That sounds like a nice word, but you don't think about the power of the sword, do you?
Sighing again at Calvin's words, Reurus pulled out his sword.
The sharpness is great and may be comparable to Dragon Slash. However, this sword and Dragon Slash will have different directions.
"Dragon Slash" is also incredibly sharp, but it has a surface that crushes the opponent with its robustness and weight.
Compared to such "dragon slashing", swords made from the material of "neck hunting" are simply slashed. I didn't actually kill him, but I think he could cut off his enemies with each piece of armor, like the "Head Hunting" claws.
(But that's something you can do with Dragon Slash...)
It seems to be more reliable than the dagger I've been using, but the best weapon for Reurus is Dragon Slasher.
"Did you just make this out of" neck hunting "material?
"No, just like your great sword, I use my refined iron as the main material. I just mixed with other metals and changed the distribution....."
When compared to the Firedragon Vanille and the "Head Hunting", the former would obviously be stronger. Even so, it was Calvin's skill to create a weapon comparable to Dragon Slash.
"I can wave with one hand in times of need, and it seems easy to use even in narrow places... it seems convenient to think of a defensive sword"
As always, the Lord will use the Dragon Slasher, and this sword will be used as an aid. It is just the right length to fill the gap between Dragon Slash and Dagger.
"Is that a sword for attack? It's a characteristic of" neck hunting ", it's easier to pass magic than a big sword... so don't try and slash it here. Besides, I haven't tried it, but it should be okay to wrap up the flames just like the Great Sword. Check this out later."
"I see... it feels like the 'Dragon Slash' has been miniaturized as it is. It's just that the smaller it is, the less robust it is... and the more I accidentally want to kill people."
"... the smaller the sword, the more" magic letters "I can only engrave" reinforcement ". Don't get stolen because you don't have the anti-theft feature. I've been working on my sheath for a while, but I can't help it if it's stolen without me."
That's the Reurus that drops its gaze on the sheath, but I'm sure you're talking about how the sword won't come out if you don't pass the magic like the Dragon Slash.
I didn't even touch Calvin in the part where I inadvertently wanted to slash people. Reurus' attitude did not reveal any falsehood, and he did not appear to be “affected” by the sword.
"In the meantime, I'll give it a try with today's request. How's it going?"
"This is the first time you've handled Neck Hunting materials... how about a big gold coin?
"I really don't have it right now... I'll bring it back later."
Calvin spent two months producing the sword, but one large gold coin would be cheap given the cost other than technical fees and materials for "neck hunting".
Of course, I didn't always spend the last two months training my sword. There were other tasks, and the request from Reurus was made in parallel.
Also, unlike during the "Dragon Slash", the reaction of Reurus was weak, stimulating Calvin's shyness as a craftsman.
--I 'm talking about something.
If Reurus hadn't had Dragon Slasher, he might have liked the sword from the bottom of his heart.
However, there was a “best sword” called "Dragon Slash" in Reus. I fell in love from the bottom of my heart, and if I could not win by waving this sword, there was a love sword that I could not help but think of.
Nevertheless, Reurus is satisfied that the ordered weapons have been completed and leaves Calvin's workshop behind.
"Good morning, Mr. Reurus. May I have a moment?
And on his way to the Adventurers' Union, Gilba had a serious look on his face.
