A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 319: The King's Capital of Lovama Part 1

The journey from the abandoned city of Laval to the royal capital of Rovama goes smoothly.

Ten days had already passed since the journey, and Natalia had nothing to say that she would have arrived by today.

There were no bandits or monsters raiding, and there were no problems. Strongly speaking, it was raining during the journey and stopped for a day, but because of the speed of travel, I was likely to reach King's Landing in ten days as originally planned.

As the King's City approaches, several changes will occur.

One is to interact well with the soldiers on patrol. Traveling south of Mataroi is a frequent way to cross once a day, but three times a day because of the proximity of King's City.

In addition, people like caravans, merchants acting with only a few people, and a small percentage of travellers rarely encounter each other in southern Mataroi, and even the handicapped sometimes pass each other on the street.

In this way, there was a lot of traffic and the street was well maintained, and the carriage was so large that it was different. Cobblestones don't make it easy to walk, but well-stabilized streets are very easy to walk.

If there are other differences from southern Mataroi, there are many villages dotted along the streets.

Whether it was originally a plain or a plough, there is a village there with vast fields that have only poor defense equipment compared to the village of Shenna.

It seems to be a “target” from the point of view of bandits and monsters, but it is the soldiers who frequently encounter it on the street who are preventing it. At least ten people, and in many cases about thirty people, walked in line, which seemed to contribute to the safety of the streets and nearby villages.

Like the abandoned city of Laval, you can see people working in the fields from the streets during the harvest.

Because there were no forests and woods around where monsters might lurk, the farmers seemed reassured, reclining and harvesting, and even had the impression that they had come to another country even though they were in the same Mataroi country.

"It's so tranquil..."

Unexpectedly, Reurus murmured.

Around the fields, there are narrow and shallow grooves called empty moats and fences made of timber that is not as thick as the arms, but it is not a defense equipment that can be relieved by Reus, who worked as a serf in the village of Shena.

It will be difficult to prevent monsters or even human intrusion. However, not only on the streets, but also around the fields, sometimes soldiers can be seen, and things like monuments are installed at a certain distance, so farmers may be able to work with confidence.

(Rather than a village, does it feel like a food production base?

Open a suitable place for farmland, prepare a place for farmers to live, and have soldiers patrol to ensure safety.

In words, that was all, but it seemed that the area of the field was large in relation to the size of the village, and the emphasis was on food production.

The distance between the village and the village is also close, so that the next village can be seen when walking for two or three hours.

However, we don't just focus on producing food. A fortress has been erected to block the streets as we approach King's Landing, and walls about three metres tall, stacked with stone, are blocking our way.

"In a sense, this place can already be said to be the“ outer edge ”of King's City. It produces food consumed in King's Landing and makes it easier to defend when attacked."

It is Collard, who once belonged to the National Army, whose eyes are nostalgic.

"The high number of soldiers patrolling is also due to the peasant season. Usually fewer."

"Heh... just being able to mobilize that kind of soldier is a terrible thing, right?

The Reurus have made their way north from southern Mataroy, but there will not be any villages or fields in the other direction.

Reurus wondered if it was amazing that there were enough troops to maintain law and order and that they were still willing to mobilize.

"It's from King's Landing. Oh, by the way, not all the fields on the east side of King's Landing are so vast."

"Really?

Reurus leans his neck to wonder if there is a reason for Natalia's supplementary words. It's not a lack of vigilance, but it's too calm to talk.

"Mr. Reurus, please remember when you went to Lake Mersena."

It was Gilba who answered the question of Reurus. The atmosphere is softer than usual because it is soothed by the long and quiet landscape around it.

"There was a river flowing into Lake Mersena, remember?

"It's the Leté River..." Oh, yeah. Speaking of which, did it branch off halfway to King's Landing?

Gilba tells me that Reurus pulls out his memory.

Meet Neddy and fight the slime to death on Lake Mersena. The Leté River, which flows into Lake Mersena, branches off from place to place, and it was said that if you take a tributary along the way, you pass near King's Landing.

"That's right. There aren't so many fields because of the tributaries of the Leté River to the east."

"If there's a river, it's easy to secure water and make fields...."

"You've experienced Reurus, haven't you? That river is quite rough. However, because it is convenient to pull water, we are building waterways and fields where water damage is difficult."

"... by the way, that's what drove you to Lake Mersena. No, I wouldn't have met Neddy without it, so I could say the Leté River was rough and lucky."

Even in a world where magic exists, it doesn't seem to beat natural phenomena.

Improving the shoreline is likely to help, but it will be difficult to develop the entire tributary of the Leté River. I don't think it's just the point, but there is not only water damage, but also monster damage. I guess there's nothing we can do about building a field in a safe place.

"Um... a little doubt, but isn't it dangerous that a big river passes near King's Landing? It was a flood disaster, but people from other countries attacked on board....."

As a blacksmith, Meer raised doubts about the “structure” of the king's capital.

On this journey, it was faster to go directly to Leté than to board a boat, but depending on the location, it would be faster to board a boat and descend the Leté to King's Landing. It's nice to have good transportation, but, as Meer said, there are some areas of concern in terms of defense.

"... no, if you're traveling in a very small number, getting off the ship on the way and lurking in the country, then it's an" ant ”means..."

Collard, questioned by Meer, saw Chilari and Natalia there. Reurus followed Collard's gaze and opened his mouth thinking that it was impossible.

"It would be nice if there were a lot of people on the boat..."

"... that's how it is."

Apparently, even if we attack from a ship, it will be magically blown away from a distance. A powerful sorcerer on the opponent's side would have prevented it, but it would have been courageous to send a powerful sorcerer to a place equal to the Death Place from the enemy side of the King's City of Mataroi.

And even amateurs like Reurus and Meer have doubts. Soldiers defending King's Landing will also be on full alert.

It was Reurus who had such a noisy conversation while traveling along the streets, vast fields, and occasionally fortifications, but at a time when the sun began to tilt, it was a distant place to think of as a destination.

"Is that the king's capital...?

Reus, who found a fortress city like Laval in the distance, muttered unexpectedly. Because of the distance, the full story is uncertain, but given the time of arrival, there is no doubt that the King's capital, Rovama, will be.

Because of the distance, it initially looked as big as a bean grain, but as it approached, I could feel its magnitude.

It was a Reurus that I thought was smaller than I thought, but I thought it belonged to the King's Capital, and even if I kept walking after seeing the walls, I couldn't get there.

(Is that... farther than I thought?

The walls of the King's Capital and the confusion of Reurus gradually grew in sight.

The weather is nice and the air is clear, and the good vision of Reurus is also the cause. Whether you walk or not, you will never reach King's Landing.

Still, by the time I walked for an hour, I was able to shorten the distance - Reurus was whispering.

"It's huge...."

"It's huge...."

"Old man...."

"Wow...."

"... yeah"

Following the Reurus, Eliza, who saw Rovama for the first time, exclaimed.

Reurus was able to get a lot closer, but the king's capital, Rovama, was almost enormous.

The walls, which are likely to be nearly 30 meters high, prevent the entry into King's Landing. Constructed of stone, its walls are taller and wider at the same time than any Leurus has seen in this world.

The king's capital, Rovama, is made of a loose circle by the walls, and when the height of the walls is close enough to comprehend, the distance between the “left and right” becomes unknown.

In terms of diameter, how much would it be? The Reurus were walking along the street, but they were just overwhelmed by the vastness of the walls of the King's City.

(How much did it cost to cut out the stone, carry it, stack it...)

How much time, money, and effort did it take to build the walls? Even speculation is difficult, and Reurus doesn't know whether to be touched or laughed at.

No matter how much magic exists, it is of unusual magnitude. I was surprised when I first saw Laval's fortress, but it's much worse than the walls of King's Landing.

I did not confirm it because I did not confirm it, but if the walls in front of me surround everything around the King's City, it is indeed worthy of the name of the King's City.

Reurus, Eliza, Sarah, Meer, Neddy, and many others have been taken aback, but naturally Natalia and Collard have visited the King's City. Compared to the Reurus, the reaction was very weak, and I was only happy to have arrived before dark.

"I can see what you're thinking... for now, let's just say this."

Of those three, Natalia told him with a bitter smile.

"Welcome to the King's Capital of Lovama."
