A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 363: Initiation of Pioneering Part 1

Step into Baron Amendura's collar and follow the rough streets for less than a day.

Reurus, who was heading towards his “destination”, felt magical signs counting from the day before.

"I've heard a lot about you, but you really have a lot of monsters..."

Collard, who was looking at the map, said he would arrive at the town's planned construction site within an hour's walk. However, I saw a dog-shaped monster called Carnet approaching in a flock from the lush forest, and prepared a "Dragon Slash".

A series of encounters with monsters that are unlikely to happen around the nearest abandoned town in Laval. Reurus is slowing down the movement speed, but fortunately, there are no injured people.

The Carnet that appeared this time - the Magic Dog is also about the strength of each one of them. However, there is a strong individual in the herd, or about a dozen magic dogs jump out of the forest in a controlled movement.

(Hmm... should Eliza stay in the middle of the line with Sarah? But normally, I'm not supposed to come this close...)

If the place changes, will the monster's “gunfire" change, or if the escape point becomes another monster's territory and can't escape? Then the magic dog spreads its saliva and jumps.

About three flew in, and the other seven took various actions, such as moving around the revus, or roaring to hold down Collard and the others.

Hmm!

Reurus lightly exhaled and flashed "Dragon Slasher", leaving two of the flying magic dogs “open”. Nevertheless, one of the remaining magic dogs who flew over grabbed his neck with his hands off the handle of the sword and slammed it with a momentum to sink the ground.

When I first became an adventurer, I had a hard time dealing with it, but now I can deal with it without using 'Calorie Release'. As it showed, Reurus ran wild and took no more than three minutes to take down the herd of demon dogs.

"Bears, dogs, birds, rabbits, insects... for the time being, we don't need meat."

"Wait. Whatever happened to the first four... bugs?

With the help of the dwarves, they load it into a truck that has run out of food from previous trips. At that time, Reurus murmured with his face, and Collard asked while pulling his cheeks.

Behind the eyes of the inquired Reurus was a Kamakiri monster called Citnam. Not only can it be used as a sickle for local work from now on, but its meat is also excellent for eating raw.

"I wonder... isn't it because of the smell of blood that so many monsters come by?

Neddy was magically frozen to keep the meat from rotting, but one of the snorting dwarves murmured.

That's right, I couldn't leave a lot of blood on the side of the street, and Neddy froze it without draining the blood, but if I said there was no smell of blood, it would be a lie.

"Nooo... if it smells of blood, it'll attack a lot more at once... that's why it's different, right?"

Reurus said that while subtly changing his standing position to cover a truck with a large number of monster carcasses.

I froze them because I didn't have time to stop my feet and drain the blood or peel the skin, but if I was told to throw them away, I was prepared to reject them with all my strength. If that happens, I intend to roam from one end of the scene.

"... well, the more we hunt monsters, the safer we'll be in the territory... until we get to our destination..."

Collard nodded as if he had given up and resumed his journey.

As you go south along the street, you turn right on the way - on the map, there was a way west, so you go that way.

Approximately an hour later, the forest opened into a plain with a good view. Trees grow all over the plains, but there are obvious signs of human hands at the outer edges of the plains, and stumps are scattered.

Looking distantly, there were several decaying structures all over the plains. There are also places where the ground has been straightened out or where soil has been piled up in the immediate vicinity of the borehole or wall.

"Here?

"Hmm... I still have my predecessor's“ marks of failure ”, and it's definitely on the map."

Affirmed by Collard, Reurus once again turned to the plains.

Whether the area was originally a plain, it is large enough to build a town. By the way, there are places where trees grow on a scale that should be called forests, but if we cut them down, it seems like we can secure a flat land of about one kilometer in all directions.

Compared to the abandoned city of Laval, it is a bit narrow, but once the town is somewhat shaped, it may be good to cut and expand the surrounding trees.

"There are more trees than expected... but there are also a few plains that we can move a little to the field, and there are rivers that are quite wide if we walk enough. The previous plan seemed to have been to draw water from the river upstream....."

"I was frustrated by so many monsters... is it possible to dig a well?

"It seems that there was a water vein underground when we tried it before. That's why I hear they had a hard time digging the sewer and connecting it downstream of the nearby river."

(Did you prepare the sewer beforehand... no, did you choose this land to save the trouble around here?

It is also maintained in the Laval Waste Town, but it seems to have already been excavated with regard to sewerage. The reason why we didn't prioritize buildings first is because if we didn't decide on the location of sewers, we would struggle with subsequent construction.

However, there was no difficulty because I was frustrated on the way. I just want to thank the Reurus for reusing it.

"So? How do we proceed first?

The sun has already passed Jomtien and there is limited time available to work during the day. So when Reurus got in doubt, Collard pointed to the center of the plain.

"Let's start by building a base for work. In the future, Captain... no, it will be where the lord, Baron Amendura, lives, but he will first build a building by placing a square borehole and a wall in the center of the town for about fifty melts, and it will be simple inside."

While saying so, Collard pulls a map out of his luggage. And when I spread it out on the spot, there was a sketch of a town designed by Natalia.

"You mean digging the ground into an empty borehole and consolidating the soil that comes out into the soil wall... even if you stab the ground in parallel, this number won't be long if it's about 50 melts."

"If you're going to build a building but you don't have the materials, how can you? You want me to dig a hole in the ground and put it in the house?

"Even if you make walls out of dirt, the roof is really nice....."

Dwarves peek at the sketch and say questions and concerns. Some of them took the scoop out of the wagon, and it seemed like they could get to work right away.

"Materials are obtained through the“ cooperation ”of neighboring lords. First, set up a tent that was used during the camp and build a decent house as soon as the materials arrive."

"There are run-down houses everywhere, but what about them?

I don't know how long it's been, but there are destroyed houses all over the plains.

It is also unclear whether the monster broke through the storm or destroyed itself, but it will be difficult to reuse the building materials. If anything, is it as much stone as is used in some houses?

"For wood that remains somewhat shaped, we can use it instead of firewood for the time being. Let the inhabitants of the abandoned city of Laval collect and set up the tents, and let the dwarves build the empty moats and earthen walls."

"What about us, Mr. Collard, and Mr. Collard's men?

It seems that while collecting the materials left here for the time being, they intend to proceed with the work in parallel. However, when Reurus, who had not been called by his name, confronted with doubt, Collard turned his gaze towards the surrounding forest.

"I am in charge of the whole thing. My men would like to use the horses that retreated from the truck and tell the surrounding lords that we have arrived....."

That said, Collard raised his eyebrows to express his concern.

"Because there are more monsters than I expected... I am anxious to send my men alone. I'm asking for a message from the soldiers I met along the way, but it seems dangerous for those who are transporting the materials...."

"There are really many monsters... Shall we go into the woods and reduce the number of monsters? That would make the streets a little safer... for Mr. Collard's men to carry the monsters we took down."

Until we got to this place, there were a lot of monsters Reurus had encountered.

There are fifteen horny rabbits, eight giant turtles, and eighteen magic dogs, and seven purple weird birds called torones.

There were three half-breed bears attacked by more than 50 monsters in total. Fortunately, there weren't so many strong monsters, but the weird birds and haunted bears used attribute magic, so I couldn't be alarmed.

I took care of them, but it seems that there are still monsters lurking in the woods around the planned construction site of the town. Step deep into the woods and you'll encounter monsters Reurus has never seen before.

"Hmm... for today, I'm going to ask you to“ clean ”the surrounding forest. My men will escort the workers, and instead I will send a few porters from the dwarf."

"As far as I'm concerned, it would be helpful... to pull it out of the dwarf. Are you okay?

When it comes to architectural and civil engineering work, no one will beat the dwarf. I'm sure Collard understands that, but he decided it would be better to get people out of the dwarf.

"Honestly, I'm worried about getting my men to act in the woods. I can't die if I'm struck by surprise....."

"... in that case, I'll borrow some dwarves."

Compared to other adventurers, the soldiers Collard brought were stronger, but they were more anxious when fighting in the woods. It would be better to have enough self-defense arms to carry the monsters that the Reurus took down.

Reurus and the others, who decided to allocate the work in this way, put together the cars and luggage that had been brought here in the center of the town - a place that would become Natalia's residence in the future - to work on each of them.
