A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 380: Chaos Part 1

The realus climbing the tree was visible in the form of a griffon flying over the woods surrounding the rocky mountains.

They're not flying around to see the territory, they're fighting something. From time to time, it was observed that there were differences in attack methods, such as individuals who dropped suddenly towards the forest and those who blew their wings on the spot and shot something at the forest under their eyes - perhaps the wind magic.

As we observe, we hear roars from afar, and several fireballs are thrown into the sky. It may have been aimed at the flying griffon, but the targeted griffon is gently avoiding it and shooting magic into the wind by staring at the ground without saying anything in return.

(Is that... a fight with other monsters? Flame magic seems to be against that bear.....)

The trees are in the way, so I can't see the opponent, and I can't even see the wind magic released by the griffon, but I think I'm shooting magic from the ground to the sky and from the sky to the ground.

In addition to that, sometimes you hear the screams and thoughtful voices of monsters in the woods, but perhaps the monsters targeted by the Griffons raised them.

Some of the monsters who escaped from around town stepped into Griffon territory and noticed that Griffon was rampaging to get rid of it.

You can deal with attribute magic like a Bear, and you can fight if you are a monster of intermediate class, but it seems like the lower monster can only be hunted unilaterally.

Nearly two years have passed since Reurus became an adventurer, but I haven't seen many monsters fighting each other. I've seen dwarfs who were attacked by a giant worm called Coribo fighting back, but I've never seen several kinds of monsters fighting like this.

When Reurus came to Laval Waste City, it would be natural to escape and change the territory if there were strong monsters, like the massive movement of low-level monsters who were scared of the appearance of Kimira.

From the monsters fighting with Griffin, did you think that Griffin territory was “safer” than the surroundings of the town currently under construction, or did you run away to Griffin territory without having time to think about it?

However, I don't intend to consider it even if I have doubts about it.

(Hmm... is there a griffon around the rocky mountain like before...?

Reurus glances at the rocky mountains, but it doesn't look like Griffon is a herd as before. Instead, he couldn't see any of them and looked like he was paying.

If dozens of monsters had stepped into the territory, it would have been natural to intercept. However, Griffons may be struggling with the fact that Reurus has been fighting Kimira for a day and the battle is not over.

(I mean, like the number of griffins is dropping... half... no, fewer?

And I soon understood why. It is in the range of Reurus' eyes, but the number is significantly lower than when we first found the herd of Griffons.

Did you reduce the number by fighting other monsters, or did you escape? I don't know the exact reason, but more than half of the glyphs that were supposed to be around 20 have disappeared.

It jumped over the forest, and some of the individuals were suddenly descending into the forest, so the exact number was unknown, but at most it appeared to be less than ten.

(Is this a chance...? Do you want to go back to town and bring all the dwarfs, or do you want to continue...!?

If Griffons are reducing their numbers, we may be able to deal with them at our leisure.

That's what I thought, Reurus, but I saw a griffon in the distance - that's what I felt.

At a distance of a few hundred meters, the leaves of the trees on which Reus is scaffolding hide and must be getting hard to see.

But when Griffon turned and saw himself winging his wings, Reus quickly jumped out of the branch of the tree.

Then, magic approached the head of the revus that fell towards the ground. And the branches of the tree on which Reurus stood until then were smashed by an invisible blade, and with a roar he blew up all the leaves around him.

"Hmm, what is it!?

"Sorry, Griffon found us! Looks like he's got good vision!

At least the Griffons who discovered themselves will have to be taken down. The opponent is flying in the sky, making it easier for them to retreat from the scene.

Quaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Reurus explains to Eliza that she was surprised when she suddenly jumped in, but a high-armored cry echoes overhead to block it.

Responding to the noise, he looked up and saw that Griffon, who was nearly three meters long, passed through the forest at a rate like a falcon.

Looking closer, it is still big inside. The lower body is like a lion, while the upper body like a prey is covered with sturdy feathers. The two forelimbs were as muscular as winged dragons and were still covered with scales.

Apparently, he flew in to see if he'd taken out the Reurus. It does not appear to hover on the spot, and it also seems to have the caution of looking sideways as it passes over the trees that Reurus was forming.

(I don't know if I can cook one, but I don't know what to do...)

The opponent is flying in the sky, but there are several allies beside Reurus that can be attacked by Class Magic Ranged Attacks such as Eliza, Sarah, and Neddy. The surrounding and overhead trees are in the way, but Reurus can also fire magic blades to launch attacks from a distance.

Mea, an avant-garde agent, is also working with Griffon in case he breaks in. It's only a few moments over the sky, but the magnitude of the magic you can feel from the griffon is not worth watching out for.

It would be easier to get rid of them if they bumped straight into each other.

(It's embarrassing to fly... but it's not like it's magically plunging in from hundreds or thousands of meters away like a vanilla...)

Again, it is very difficult to fight when the opponent is flying in the sky. I'm not confused or surprised because I've fought with the Vanier, but it's a big strength to fly freely.

But I don't have time to worry. Now that Griffon has captured us, we have to fight.

"Looks like the Griffons are fighting with other monsters... and the number of Griffons is down, so it's a good opportunity. I'm going to destroy each one."

It's faster to fight like this than to go back to town and call for backup. The moment the magic of Griffon came into his perception, Reurus kicked the ground with a freshly remembered "strengthening".

It jumps up nearly five meters in a single jump, kicking the trunk of the tree and jumping even further. In line with the magical movement of the griffon, I kicked the trunk of the tree one last time to correct the direction, breaking through the branches that blocked my vision and jumping into front of the griffon.

A "neck hunting" sword is held in his hand.

Huh!?

Surprised by the Reurus' behavior, Griffon leaked a voice that was drawn from behind his mouth. Nevertheless, he sees Reurus holding the 'Head Hunting' sword and immediately takes evasive action.

It changes the movement of the wings, and the griffon rotates around. Aerial manoeuvre (barrel roll) that spins right through the rear of the rear.

It would have been impossible to suddenly unleash wind magic at such a distance. Still, Griffon's movements, which were instantly judged and evaded, were worthy of intermediate monsters.

"- Sorry."

Nevertheless, it does not apply to reuses that were once similar to Vanille's.

Reurus waved his sword after Griffon, who avoided the collision. The blade does not arrive directly, but the magical blade released from the "neck hunting" sword breaks the wings of the Griffon.

Griffons with their wings detached fell with the momentum they were flying. If you lose your wings all of a sudden, there's nothing you can do about it.

Keiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!

However, the Griffon made a sound that echoed in the surrounding area even as it fell.

Reurus thought it was caused by the pain of having his wings cut off, but he saw the griffon fly out of the forest at the edge of his vision while being pulled by gravity and falling.

Soon it will be invisible by the surrounding branches, but the Griffon who slashed your wings may have asked for help. Or did he encourage you to run away?

Reurus landed on the ground again using the "Enhancement" that had been released when the magic blade was released. The ground subsided with a very harsh sound and the feet were buried close to the tires, but Reurus pulled his feet out of the ground without worrying.

(After all, if you make complex moves, you can solve the "strengthening"... is there a problem around here?)

"Enhancement" can be “used” in itself, but it is not freely manipulated to withstand actual combat. For that reason, Reurus turned his attention to the fallen griffon, thinking it was a practice.

Whether it was because the wings were slashed or because the impact of the fall was so great, the griffon hit the ground while crushing and folding the trees was unable to wake up.

Having decided that it would still be possible to use wind magic, Reus switched his weapon to the Dragon Slasher and jumped into a straight line.

"Ooooooooo!"

Step in and wave down the great sword. The blow struck the head of the griffon as if it were a guillotine.

(... that?

Reurus, who thought he would encounter more intense resistance, murmured with his heart. Even the same intermediate monsters thought that if they were Kimira, they wouldn't be able to be alarmed from here on out.

(You didn't get hit that hard? I can use wind magic, but it's not durable, it feels like....)

I can't say with just one, but it might be easier than I thought. That was the thought of Reus as he waved "Dragon Slash" and flew the attached blood, Sarah shouted unexpectedly.

"... that? Uh... Reurus? It looks like the surrounding heat source is coming this way...."

…………

In response to Sarah's unexpected remarks, Reurus retook the "Dragon Slash" he had put on his back.
