A Chronicle of Life in a Different World

Episode 390: Collard's Request Part 4

Reurus stepped into the town of Lemona and looked around and raised his eyebrows small.

(It seems that there are quite a few people living there, but they are not lively. The air is starving, or is it dark... wouldn't it be better for Laval Waste Town to flourish as a town?

Although it is impossible to determine the exact population simply by observing the surroundings, Reurus thinks it is more than the village of Shena, where it was born.

The town is probably more populous than the abandoned city of Laval, but the strange “darkness” that drifted in the town seemed to take away the crowd. Therefore, I even have the impression that Laval Waste City is more like a town.

"Hmm... somehow, it's a dark town!"

"Sara-chan! Don't say that!

Sarah said the same thing boringly and stopped her in a hurry. Neddy also looked around and leaned his neck strangely.

The residents of the town looked strange when they noticed the Reurus, but they left early enough without getting involved in anything in particular.

Rather than judging an adventurer from his appearance and avoiding contact, he even looked down and walked away from the scene with a voice.

In other towns, it is not uncommon for disgusting gazes to fly in, so I wonder how to react as a revulsion.

(It's troublesome to be hated by hair, but it's also troublesome to react like this...)

With that in mind, Reurus and the others continue through the city.

Because the town is largely similar, there is no doubt about the steps taken by the Reurus.

You can see several stalls and shop-like buildings as you walk along the streets that run through the center of the town, which is likely to be called the main street in Laval Waste City.

The stall sells vegetables, fruits, skewered meat, and more, but guests are scarce. It seems that the shop generally deals in things necessary for everyday life, such as food, groceries, and household goods, and I saw a variety of products lined up in the shop.

(It's not as big as the big shop I saw in King's Landing, but it's the biggest shop in this town...?)

Reurus, who had heard from Collard about the location of the shop, turned to the shop. There were about three wagons lined up in front of the shop, and I saw an elderly man who thought he was an employee of the shop giving instructions.

(Is the store normal...? Then what did the lord do.....)

In the meantime, when Reus approached the shop thinking about listening to the story, the elderly men also noticed Reus. Though the man had a strange expression, he looked at Reurus' face and opened his eyes.

"Excuse me, if you're a pioneer in Baron Amondola's territory?

And I thought I'd rushed over to the run, and then I hid my voice and asked.

"Yes, that's right....."

"Oh... I see. Last time I was transporting the materials, I saw them, so I thought it would be interesting....."

While saying so, the man somehow looks around. And I thought I had invited Reus and the others, and I pulled them into the store.

(... what the hell is going on?

Reurus approached the store on alert. At that time, I will check the surroundings, but there is no abnormality just by occasionally turning my eyes from the people who come and go.

(Hmm... I don't feel magic, and no one's trying to kill me... anything?

When Reurus entered the store wondering, the earlier man looked sorry and waited.

"I came here to check on" the other day "… is that a mistake?

"That's right... what happened?

I'm probably in my mid-thirties. It was a characteristic man with short-cut brown hair, a slightly “fat” body, and an easy-to-move outfit called a long-sleeved top on his trousers.

With a smile of merchant affection, the man lowers his head as if in some trouble.

"Let me introduce myself... my name is Saniel and I am doing business in this town of Lemona. And I want to apologize... for not being able to deliver the materials on time."

A man named Saniel raised his head and saw a wagon lined up in front of the store.

"That's no excuse, but I can't get the help of a soldier as a guard... and I'm so sorry you had to help me..."

Saniel explains why the business pattern has become like this, with a smile on her face and cold sweat. But as for Reus, we don't know “why.”

"What do you mean you can't get soldiers to help you? Last time I thought there was nothing wrong... did something go wrong on your way back to this town?

Perhaps a monster or bandit attacked him on his way back from the town of Speranza, causing him damage. So he tried to avoid another sacrifice.

Reurus thought of that, but Saniel shook her head sideways.

"No, the problem is nothing in particular... I was able to bring back the monster materials that I bought in your town, and I prepared the“ next ”materials like that..."

The wagon is loaded with fine building materials such as nails, brick tiles, and paint placed in a jar. Still, thanks to everything that's not available in Speranza today.

However, Saniel says the soldiers who were supposed to be guarding the road can no longer be used, even though they have the materials.

"I had plenty of room for the materials and I was ready to leave, but I couldn't see the soldiers on the day of departure... I checked and they said I couldn't accompany them suddenly. When I protested to the lord, he said, 'I don't know anything like that'...."

"That's... funny."

That's too bad for a reason why you suddenly stopped sending soldiers. It is enough to say that it is not even a reason in the first place.

(I thought you might be able to give me the most obvious reason... for harassing Baron Amondola's territory, but I don't think so...)

Not knowing what the lord of the town of Lemona was thinking, Reus twisted his neck small.

I also thought about the possibility that Saniel was lying, but before entering the town of Lemona, I also saw a glimpse of mistrust towards the lord from the soldiers who were face-to-face.

"I see... I understand. You can't carry materials without an escort."

It is a world where one step outside the city is not strange to risk one's life. However, if you try to stay in town, there is a danger that monsters will attack the sky.

"Yes... some of the vigilantes I hired in the shop, but when there were so many monsters coming out, I didn't feel comfortable heading to the rumored Baron Amondola's territory... I was just trying to hire some extra young people in town, yes..."

I'm sorry to hear that again, Saniel.

Recently, the Baron of Amendura - especially around the town of Speranza - has seen fewer monsters, but people in other towns don't seem to have changed much.

It may be that many monsters still inhabit because Reus and the others presented a large amount of monster material as consideration for the material after the exploitation failed.

(Even if I told you it was safer than before, I don't know when and where the monsters would attack... and there were actually a lot of intermediate monsters, so it's natural to be vigilant)

I don't know what the lord of the town of Lemona is thinking, but I am convinced that Saniel has stopped going to the town of Speranza.

I want the materials, but instead, I don't want you to risk it and pretend to die if you succeed.

"The lord didn't suddenly have the personality to say such a thing... I'm also a merchant in this town, but when I went to protest, I had the impression that I was dealing with strangers."

Reurus's eyebrows glittered at Saniel's words. And even though I didn't think it was possible, I put a breath and opened my mouth.

"... I'd like to make sure, have you seen any strange women in this town lately? Blonde hair with a little habit, stretching to the shoulders... I admit it, but, well, I'm sure she's beautiful."

It was Rebecca, the bishop of Grego, who came to mind when she heard Saniel's words.

Together with her face, she told her memorable outfit - a white corset dress with frill skirts and long boots that covered her underneath her knees - but Sanielle frowned in trouble.

"Hah... I don't hear about these women... but if a prominent outside person comes, they'll come into my ear right away."

Saniel's voice was puzzling because she didn't really think of a verse.

- It's Rebecca. Or is the magic doll dressing up like someone else....)

If it looks so flashy, it will soon be rumored. Reurus wondered if Rebecca might be manipulating the lord of the town of Lemona, but there seems to be no sightings.

However, I can't rest assured that using a magic doll will deceive you as much as possible. The possibility that Saniel in front of her would manipulate Rebecca's magic doll is not zero.

"Really... I'd like to bring back some information about this incident for now. As for the materials... what should we do?

Even if I took the information home and discussed it with Collard, I was concerned about Saniel's future trends. Without the materials Saniel has prepared, the town will not be frustrated, but the pace will slow down a bit.

When Reurus asked, Saniel sighed deeply.

"I'll call the lord again, and if it's still no good, I'll hire the young people of the town to come to you. I was wondering... if we could get there within a week at the latest."

"I see. I'll let this person in charge know."

"Thank you very much. I will take the“ apology ”at that time... this is a thank you for your hard work."

That's how Saniel gave me a palm-sized cloth wrap. Reurus shook his hand with his left hand and when he received it, he lowered his head small.

"I'll just tell you the truth... I swear on the name 'Monster Eater', I'll tell you the truth."

"I don't mind. This is where we need to be."

Reurus shook his hand and said, but Saniel kept lowering her head with an apologetic face.

When he saw it, Reus nodded back - taking his right hand off the "neck hunting" sword pattern.

After Saniel's shop, Reurus and the others headed to a spiritual church in the town of Lemona at his feet.

It's not that I don't believe Saniel's words, but I decided it was better to rely on Spiritualism to get “accurate information.”

(There's Sarah and Neddy, and it looks like the name 'Spirit Man' is spreading...)

I think there is something about the nickname "Spirit Man", but Reus thinks that we will use what is available.

Of course, I intend to make a donation in exchange for information. There were five pieces of gold in the cloth wrapper that Saniel gave me, so I'm not having trouble donating the money.

With that in mind, Reurus and the others occasionally go to church asking the town residents.

"... hmm? Oh, are you away?

So I knocked on the church door and tried to open it, but it didn't open.

In churches I've visited before, I almost opened the door, so I didn't bother to enter, but I wonder if it's locked or not.

I waited in front of the church for a while, but there were no signs of people in the church, and there was no sign of someone coming back.

(There are people running around like Jilba... well, if it's not there, I can't help it.)

The time is early in the evening and late in the day.

We don't need to cross the street now that we know the safety of Saniel, so if we leave the town of Lemona now and head straight to the town of Speranza, we'll be there by noon tomorrow.

Reurus thinks so - he turns to Eliza.

"I'm going back to Speranza right now... Eliza, are you okay?

Normally Eliza didn't say a word and Reus, worried about it, asked, leaving a few seconds before Eliza reacted.

"... nnh, what is it? I'm fine, right?

…………

For some reason, her face turned red and while sweating on her forehead and neck, Eliza shook her neck and appealed to her that she was fine.

Reurus stared silently at it, sighing one by one.

"If it's tough, I'm thinking of getting a place to stay in this town...."

"It's okay, it's okay! Are you sure you're okay? Besides, would it be better to tell Mr. Collard about this?

That's how Eliza walks out in a hurry.

"... if it's painful, I'll take you home with me.

Like Eliza, Reurus sighed again and left the town of Lemona behind.
