Chapter 898: Nightmarish Effects of Devil’s Den Formation P3
A crimson Spirit Flame erupted around Saelyr.
Neshara’s eyes flashed.
"Who the hell do you think you are? You... You... You die!"
Neither woman hesitated.
BOOM!
Their Connate Spells collided. The resulting explosion shook the formation. If the formation hadn’t been rooted on the island and connected to its Spirit Vein, it might have already been damaged to some extent.
Aksai silently watched as he kept track of time in his mind. To him, each second was as precious as a glass of water to someone dying of thirst.
However, he didn’t dare to foolishly rush things and let the two women fight each other head-on with everything they had. If he were to show himself at this point to take advantage of their mental states, it would actually backfire on him, and the two women would direct their attacks toward him.
Thankfully, his intervention was unnecessary. The two women were already at each other’s throats.
There was no hesitation and no restraint.
They used their artifacts and released Spirit Spells with reckless abandon. A part of their sanity was still somehow intact, so they activated defensive treasures. However, this only made it harder for them to kill each other, which in turn led to an even fiercer struggle.
They even brought out several trump cards they had previously reserved for emergencies.
But they were not fighting rationally. Even if certain trump cards turned out to be less effective, they kept using them. They were fighting based on fragmented instincts.
Every attack made the next attack worse. Every injury increased their fear. And every moment of fear further clouded their minds.
Blood soon stained their robes.
Saelyr’s crimson robes were torn in several places.
Neshara’s veil had been ripped apart.
Neither woman noticed.
They continued attacking.
BOOM!
BOOM!
SHING!
CRACK!
Eventually, the two women began slowing down.
It had only been a short time, but due to the intensity of the battle, their Spirit Essence reserves had fallen dangerously low. Their bodies were covered in wounds. Their breathing was ragged.
Both had suffered injuries that would have forced ordinary cultivators to retreat immediately. And yet, they still tried to attack each other.
However, the effects of the Druidic Melodies couldn’t last forever and began to fade.
Their minds slowly started returning to normal.
Saelyr’s eyes regained some clarity as she stared at the woman standing opposite her.
Her breathing stopped.
"Wha... what? Wait... Aaaargh! How... How am I THIS injured? Did... did the island owner attack?"
Neshara also froze. Something clicked inside her mind as Saelyr’s mumblings reached her. She recognized the robes and aura. Her eyes widened beneath her torn veil.
"Saelyr?"
Saelyr’s expression changed.
"Neshara?"
For a brief moment, neither moved. Then they looked around.
The blood, wounds, shattered artifacts, and destruction surrounding them.
Understanding dawned on both of them at the same time.
"We..."
Neshara’s voice trembled as she came to a horrifying conclusion.
"We were fighting each other."
Saelyr’s expression became deathly grim as well.
"That formation master... he... he is the one who..."
Aksai appeared behind them, not wanting to give them time to catch up. He had chosen his timing well, and as such, neither woman had noticed his approach.
His expression was calm as he appeared like a ghost on the battlefield, his golden eyes radiating unmistakable killing intent.
The two women tried to move, realizing that they had fallen into a trap.
Unfortunately for them, they were a second too slow.
Several thick Demon Vines erupted from the ground.
Puchi!
The vines pierced through their chests.
Saelyr’s eyes widened.
Neshara’s body stiffened.
Before either could react, the vines violently pulled backward.
Two beating hearts were ripped from their chests.
Aksai stepped forward, his hands closing around the two living organs he had just harvested.
Squish!
The hearts burst beneath his palms. Blood splattered across his fingers, and the two female cultivators collapsed.
Their bodies fell lifelessly onto the ground.
Aksai looked down at them for a moment before calmly wiping the blood from his hands.
His gaze then shifted toward the remaining isolated battlefields.
’Two down.’
His expression became solemn.
’Now... the real trouble remains.’
***
At the same time, in another part of the formation—
The battlefield between the Sun Ocean Lord and Droven had already turned into a war of attrition.
BOOM!
A golden-red Spirit Flame exploded across the fog.
The Sun Ocean Lord’s figure retreated several dozen meters as he waved his sleeve. Three crimson talismans shot forward.
"Explode!"
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The three talismans erupted simultaneously.
Each one contained the power of a late-stage 3rd Order Spirit Spell. The resulting flames merged together, forming a massive fiery salamander that opened its jaws and lunged toward Droven.
Droven didn’t dodge.
He simply raised his shield.
DONG!
The fiery salamander slammed into the shield. A terrifying shockwave spread across the battlefield, causing the surrounding Demon Vines to bend under the pressure.
Droven’s massive body was pushed backward by several meters before he could firmly plant his feet.
The fiery salamander shattered.
Droven emerged from the flames almost completely unharmed. He dusted his shoulders with his hands lightly and smirked at the Sun Ocean Lord.
The Sun Ocean Lord’s expression twitched.
"You... You are mocking me, aren’t you? You dare to mock this old Lord?"
Droven lowered his shield.
A faint layer of golden light covered his armor. There wasn’t even a scratch on it.
"You talk too much. Hand over the things you stole from us right this instant, and I might consider leaving your corpse intact. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a proper funeral? Hehehe."
The giant stepped forward.
BOOM!
The ground cracked beneath his feet.
The Sun Ocean Lord’s expression changed.
"You dare say I talk too much while saying all that stuff to me? Aren’t you imperial Lords too much of hypocrites? Haah!"
Saying this, the Sun Ocean Lord immediately swallowed another pill.
Even though he liked to talk, it was also a part of his strategy to delay his opponents. Unfortunately, Droven had started mimicking his strategy, riling the Sun Ocean Lord up as well.
The Sun Ocean Lord obviously didn’t like the taste of his own medicine.
At the start, he merely wanted to go through the motions of battling the man and wait for Aksai to join him. But Droven’s physical and verbal attacks flipped a certain switch within the Sun Ocean Lord, making him go all out.
A powerful medicinal force surged through his body. His Spirit Essence, which had already been depleted by the previous exchange, rapidly recovered.
At the same time, he threw another handful of talismans into the air.
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
Lightning.
Ice.
Flames.
Poison.
Wind blades.
All kinds of talisman-powered 3rd Order Spirit Spells descended upon Droven from different directions.
The old Lord didn’t hold anything back.
These were treasures he had accumulated over more than four centuries.
Some had been purchased. Some had been obtained from ruins by his sect elders and disciples. Others had been refined personally.
He had also explored many secret cultivation caves and isolated dimensions back when he was still an early-stage Lord, but he had never really had the need to use them until this point.
Every single one had been collected with the intention of preserving his life during dangerous situations. There were also some that had been passed down through generations of the Sun Ocean Sect.
Normally, the Sun Ocean Lord would never use so many of them in a single battle.
But this time, he had no choice.
BOOM!
BOOM!
BOOM!
The entire battlefield trembled.
For a moment, Droven disappeared beneath the bombardment.
The Sun Ocean Lord’s eyes brightened.
"Did I finally—"
DONG!
A huge shield emerged from the flames.
Droven stepped out, his armor glowing. His shield was slightly damaged, but his aura remained stable.
The Sun Ocean Lord’s smile froze.
"...break through your defence?"
Droven looked at him calmly.
"No."
His voice was almost bored.
"You didn’t. Old man, I must appreciate that half-rotten brain of yours that still keeps working even after experiencing so many losses. Would you mind if I chop your head after your death so that I can study it? I want to be as shameless as you in the future."
The Sun Ocean Lord’s mouth twitched.
"You snobbish imperial cu*nts!"
He immediately pulled out another talisman.
Then another.
Then five more.
Droven’s expression finally became slightly strange.
"Damn it, old man. How many of those things do you have?"
"Hehehe. Enough. Why don’t you look down on us native Lords some more? I dare you. I fuc*king dare you!"
The Sun Ocean Lord answered through gritted teeth.
"I have paid a huge price by using them on you. Let me tell you. You aren’t the only one looking forward to their opponent’s death, you Shinayin as*****. Hopefully, you’ll have enough goodies on you to cover the losses."
He crushed another alchemy pill between his fingers and swallowed the medicinal powder.
His Spirit Essence surged once again.
A complicated talisman formation appeared around him.
The old Lord’s eyes became sharp.
"Third-Order, Nine Suns Burning Heaven Talisman!"
Nine miniature suns appeared behind him.
The surrounding temperature immediately soared.
