Chapter 122: Mysterious Ability [GT Bonus]
"He had a severe seizure. From my examination, the cause is unknown. If I’d arrived even a few seconds later, it could’ve led to serious damage."
Nicholas’ consciousness drifted and he could hear Doctor Cho’s voice in the room, and it wasn’t just him.
"What could’ve possibly led to a seizure? He looked just fine when he was talking with us outside." Selena’s voice was edged with worry.
"Could it have been the race? He really pushed himself out there." Vixen said, her eyes drifting to Nicholas.
"I don’t think using his speed could’ve caused this much damage. His body should already be used to that kind of strain. Don’t forget—he’s got super strength too. He’s tougher than most." Light said from the side.
"Or maybe it’s still the curse from the Nigerian hero?" Thinker asked.
"No. He told me he’d cancelled out her ability. So there’s no way it still had an effect on him"
"Well, how should I know? You heroes are always throwing yourselves into trouble. Couldn’t be me. Anyway, I’m done here. He should wake up any minute now. Dana, please send me my money." Cho said with a casual shrug as he walked out of the room with a casual stride.
"I guess we can only know what happened when he wakes up" Dana said with a grim voice.
The event wasn’t going as smoothly as anyone had hoped. Though it was intended to strengthen the bonds between heroes from different nations, it seemed to be doing the exact opposite.
’We’ll have to implement stricter rules next year’
"We should let him rest a bit, we’ll come check on him later" Selena suggested.
"Yeah, let’s leave"
Nicholas waited until the door clicked shut behind them.
He slowly opened his eyes, his mind as still a little foggy, but he could still make out the white ceiling of the emergency room.
He took a deep long breath, breathing in the antiseptic scent that lingered in the air.
’What was that?’ Nicholas mind immediately drifted back to what he’d seen behind Tianzun.
’That can’t be normal’
The moment he’d activated the third eye, it seemed as though he’d drifted out of his body, his soul was forcibly dragged out of his body.
And then he saw it.
It had no beginning and no end. Its colossal form seemed to stretch beyond the ceiling, beyond the sky itself, disappearing into a darkness his eyes couldn’t measure. Limbs folded into wings, wings unraveled into flowing ribbons of light, and countless arms emerged only to dissolve back into an endless sea of shifting flesh.
It possessed a face—or perhaps thousands. Every time Nicholas tried to focus on one, it crumbled into another. Some smiled with unbearable serenity. Others screamed in silent agony.
Around its head floated fractured rings that revolved in impossible directions, bending space as though reality itself had forgotten its own rules.
It all happened in less than a heartbeat before the unbearable pressure forced him away.
’If I’d kept the third eye active, I could’ve died’ Nicholas thought and for the first time he felt a shudder run down his spine.
He’d wanted to unravel the mystery behind Tianzun. Instead, he’d uncovered an even greater one.
It was surreal; it felt less like an ability and more like a fragment of reality that ordinary eyes were never meant to witness.
Nicholas didn’t know exactly what he’d seen, but he was certain that it was anything but normal.
And Tianzun was definitely not as simple as the other heroes thought he was.
Nicholas slowly let out a sigh, ’I should ask Selena if she’s seen him fight before, I want to know what exactly his ability is like’
For now, any thoughts of using the third eye on Tianzun again was thrown out of his mind. He wasn’t the type to play with things he couldn’t quite understand.
Especially ones that had tried to kill him.
It failed once, but that didn’t mean that it couldn’t try again.
What didn’t kill you the first time could always come back and try again.
Nicholas knew that much as a hitman.
’...It’s no wonder no one has ever defeated him.’
A grin slowly spread across Nicholas’ face.
’But now I really want to fight him.’
He was really looking forward to the combat tournament.
While he was lost in his thoughts, the door to the room clicked open.
"You didn’t have to escort me here, I’m alright on my own" Selena said as she entered the room.
"With everything that’s been happening, I feel it’s important we look out for each other" Nectron replied calmly.
Selena was about to reply but caught Nicholas gaze, "Oh, you’re up already? We were really worried about you. What happened back there?" Selena said as she hurriedly walked over to his side.
Concern filled her eyes as she looked down at him, "Did anyone attack you? Or was it the curse from the lady?"
"I don’t know what happened either, but I’m fine now" Nicholas said bluntly.
"That was unexpected, right after a good race and you just went on to crash on us like that" Nectron said.
"Well... at least you’re alright. we planned a celebration party for the win, but I’m not sure we’ll be able to hold it with your current condition"
Nicholas glanced at the two. He remained silent for a moment.
No matter how hard he tried, his thoughts kept returning to Tianzun.
Especially when he knew that he’d most likely be his opponent during the combat event.
"Supervisor Selena, you’ve seen Tianzun fight before.... What exactly is it like when he uses his ability?"
Selena paused for a second, taken aback by the sudden question. ’Did what happen to him have anything to do with Tianzun?’
"I wouldn’t say I’ve really seen it. There wasn’t much to see. Nectron experienced it firsthand though so maybe you can ask him."
Nicholas slowly shifted his gaze to Nectron who let out a deep sigh.
"We’re not winning Tianzun."
