Chapter 560 - 557: You Two Are Quite Fated
Clara Grant couldn’t help but feel a little guilty. With so many dishes, just washing and chopping everything must have taken ages.
"It’s rare for you to come home for a meal, so it’s no big deal for me to make a few extra dishes," Skylar Hayes said, turning to glance at her. "What are you following me in here for? Go on, shoo. Go keep Seth company."
"I’ll help you," Clara Grant said, ready to pitch in, but Skylar Hayes stopped her.
"I’ve already prepped everything. All that’s left is the stir-frying, so how can you help? Now, get out of here. You’ll just be in the way and make things more difficult for me."
Shoved out of the kitchen, Clara Grant saw Seth Quinn sitting on the sofa, his head down as he looked at his phone. She went and sat down in the armchair to the side.
She had just sat down when she frowned, reaching underneath her to pull something out.
When she pulled it out, she saw it was a man’s wallet. Confused, Clara Grant tilted her head back and called toward the kitchen, "Mom, whose wallet is this on the sofa?"
The moment the words were out, she suddenly remembered that Cedric Grant had been here when she first got home from the set. ’Could it be his?’
With that thought, Clara Grant opened the wallet.
Hearing her daughter’s question, Skylar Hayes poked her head out of the kitchen. "What wal—"
She didn’t finish her sentence. It occurred to her that Marcus Jarvis had been sitting in that exact spot. ’Could he have dropped his wallet here?’
Just as the thought crossed Skylar’s mind, Clara saw Marcus Jarvis’s ID card inside the wallet.
Her eyes instantly widened. ’Marcus Jarvis? Isn’t that the Mr. Jarvis who almost hit Mom last time? Why is his wallet at our house?’
Clara Grant turned to look at Skylar Hayes, who was standing in the kitchen doorway, and asked with exaggerated surprise, "Mom, has Mr. Jarvis been to our house?"
"Oh, yes, he has. It was quite a coincidence, actually. I was coming out of the supermarket after grocery shopping and accidentally tripped, falling right in front of him. So he brought me home." Skylar Hayes glossed over the important parts. She didn’t want Clara to know she had fallen because she was chasing the man who might be her biological father.
"Then what about you? Are you okay?" Hearing her mother had fallen, Clara Grant immediately jumped to her feet, rushed over, and began looking her over for injuries.
"I’m fine. If something were wrong, would I be here cooking dinner for you?" Skylar Hayes replied with a smile. Her daughter’s anxious concern warmed her heart.
Fortunately, she’d been worried her daughter would come home, smell the ointment, realize she was injured, and start to worry, so she had washed it off her wound ahead of time.
"You scared me to death. You have to be more careful when you go out from now on. Don’t keep giving me scares like this," Clara Grant said, clutching her chest in admonishment.
After she said that, her eyes twinkled, and she added with a mischievous grin, "Then I’d say you and that Mr. Jarvis are quite fated to meet, wouldn’t you?"
Skylar Hayes knew exactly what she was implying. She pushed her daughter toward the door. "Fated, my foot. Now get out of here, I need to start cooking."
With that, she gave her daughter a gentle shove out of the kitchen and shook her head with a smile. ’This daughter of mine is really determined to see me find love again.’
Clara Grant took the wallet and sat down next to Seth Quinn. Waving it in his direction, she said, "That Mr. Jarvis seems like a pretty nice guy, don’t you think?"
’It’d be pretty great if Mom and he could get something going.’
Seth Quinn, however, just shot her an indifferent glance and said, "I don’t think he’s anything special."
"Why?" Clara Grant asked, puzzled. ’That Marcus Jarvis seems handsome and distinguished, not to mention warm-hearted and kind. What’s not to like about him?’
