Chapter 777 - 774: It’s Okay to Shed a Few Tears
Rhys’s nose slammed into a button on his chest, and the sharp pain... Her eyes immediately welled up.
Rhys reached up to cover her nose, but River Sterling pulled her even tighter against him. "Don’t move!"
His gruff voice seemed laced with other, suppressed emotions.
Her nose ached so badly it felt like it wasn’t even hers anymore. Rhys paid him no mind and struggled to get out of his arms, but River Sterling immediately threatened, "Move again, and I’ll kiss you!"
Rhys immediately froze. She knew he was a scoundrel; if he said he’d kiss her, he really would!
Unable to move, Rhys could only curse him silently in her heart. ’Scoundrel! Animal!’
When River Sterling felt her go still, he silently let out a breath of relief. The heat stirring inside him and the body’s intense reaction to it finally began to subside.
To be honest, a woman like Rhys—stuffy, reserved, and who could only be considered pretty at best—wasn’t his type.
He’d been with countless women and had seen them all: the beautiful, the coquettish, the sultry, the innocent. He couldn’t understand how he’d gotten so hung up on this old virgin who didn’t suit his tastes in any way.
The first time they slept together could be written off as an accident. They had both been so drunk they were barely coherent, so ending up in the same bed and having a drunken fling was understandable.
The problem was, why couldn’t he work up his usual powerful drive for other women after sleeping with her just once?
After all, he used to be able to take on three women in one night and still be raring to go!
No other woman had ever gotten him hooked after a single time, making him feel as if he’d been poisoned by her, completely unable to feel any desire for anyone else!
’He certainly didn’t think it was because he’d fallen in love with this old virgin, whose name itself sounded like an antique.’
’Could this be a case of getting tired of feasting on delicacies and wanting to try some simple home cooking for a change?’
As the heat in River Sterling’s heart slowly faded, a faint sense of irritation began to rise in its place.
He shifted, about to shove the woman in his arms away in a fit of pique, when he suddenly felt a faint damp coolness on his chest through his thin shirt.
River Sterling’s heart gave a sudden, inexplicable lurch. He immediately pushed Rhys away. Forgetting all about the wet patch spreading across his expensive shirt, he stared intently into her eyes and asked, "You’re crying?"
His voice held a note of panic that even he failed to notice.
"I’m not crying!"
Seeing that he had finally let go of her, Rhys immediately wriggled free of his hold. She lifted a hand to rub her still-aching nose, shooting him a vicious glare as she did.
But her large, naturally shimmering eyes were now brimming with tears from the pain. So even as she glared daggers at him, River Sterling was convinced she was actually crying.
’She says she’s not crying, but she’s just throwing a fit!’
River Sterling feared neither heaven nor earth, but the one thing he couldn’t stand was a woman crying in front of him—especially not when she was staring at him with such large, watery, pitiful-looking eyes.
He caved instantly. "Okay, okay, okay, just don’t cry. I’ll take you straight home right now, alright?"
With that, he quickly started the car and drove off.
Rhys: ...
’So this animal is afraid of women crying!’
Although a stubborn woman like her disdained crying, if it meant she could escape his torment, shedding a few tears was a small price to pay.
