Chapter 588 - 585: She Knew Him Too Well
"Perhaps your tenderness and thoughtfulness would have moved me. Perhaps his gentle, refined nature would have captivated me. Perhaps I would have married you, had our baby, and lived a peaceful, happy life!
But in this world, there are no ’what ifs’!
You suffer from loving me, but I suffer even more from loving Seth Quinn. While I loved him, I also hated myself. I’d wonder, ’Why can’t I stop loving him? Why can’t I just leave him?’ He couldn’t care less about me, so why did I have to humble myself to the dust just to please him?
I was miserable and in pain, so I slept with you that one time. I admit, I was drunk that day. I also wanted to get back at Seth Quinn. That’s why I slept with you.
But later, you really did start to take up a place in my heart. The hold Seth Quinn had on me gradually began to lessen.
But back then, in my parents’ eyes, you didn’t have Seth Quinn’s prominent status or the Quinn Family’s powerful background. Besides, I didn’t completely understand my own heart yet.
So, I still got engaged to Seth Quinn and was even preparing to marry him.
But then, I found out I was pregnant. I didn’t want to get rid of our child, so I went to the U.S.A with you.
But pregnancy is just so exhausting for a woman, mentally and physically. I developed depression. I know you were exhausted during that time—taking care of me, going with me to therapy, and managing your career.
After I gave birth, I still had depression. I couldn’t even bring myself to look at the baby. So you had to take care of the baby too, which made things even harder on you.
But you were still so incredibly attentive. Back then, for your sake, I was truly on the verge of giving up my obsession and letting go of the past.
But right at that moment, I heard that Seth Quinn was with another woman—that he was going to marry her!
I had known him for twenty-six years and loved him for twenty-four, yet I never got to marry him. And now, some woman he’d only known for a few months—he was actually going to marry her!
He took another woman to the apartment he never took me to. He gave another woman the tenderness he never gave me.
From the moment we made it official, to our engagement, to the eve of our wedding, he never once willingly held my hand, never kissed me, never slept with me.
And yet, he gave all of that to a woman he’d known for just a few months!
How could I ever accept that?!"
As she spoke, Autumn Shelby stared intently at Sierra Sutton. "Sierra, you said before that he’s still the one I love most. You’re wrong. I probably don’t have any love left for him now. All that’s left is this obsession and my refusal to accept it, don’t you think?"
This long speech seemed to have exhausted Autumn Shelby. She leaned back weakly against the sofa, and tears suddenly welled up in her large eyes, making her look utterly pitiable.
Seeing her like this, Sierra Sutton’s heart clenched. He had loved her for so many years. From the moment he first entered the Shelby household and laid eyes on her, he had been in love. He could never bear to hurt her in the slightest.
So how could he possibly bear to watch her suffer like this now!
He walked over, gathered her into his arms, and stroked her long hair, murmuring, "Autumn, Autumn, don’t be like this. Please don’t cry."
’It had been so hard for her to recover from her depression. What if she brooded too much and had a relapse? What would he do then?’
Autumn Shelby rested her head on his shoulder, tears streaming down her face, but a flicker of triumph flashed in her eyes. She knew him too well. How could she not know his greatest weakness?
