Chapter 2036 - 485: Matchless Young Master, The Only Pursuit (8)
"Actually..." Anna wanted to tell her that Princess Shengxi was Dr. Nyx, but when she saw the cold sneer on Xi Lin’s face, she suddenly stopped.
Princess Shengxi and Lorde were already destined to be impossible, so in that case, she no longer posed any threat to Xi Lin. Why should she go out of her way?
"Actually what?" Xi Lin asked.
Anna smiled and shook her head. "Nothing. Actually, it was Young Master Lorde who personally brought you to the hospital."
Xi Lin laughed. "Really?"
Anna nodded. "It’s true. He waited outside the operating room for a while, then got a phone call—must have been something very important—so he left."
Xi Lin started laughing to herself, even the wound on her shoulder didn’t seem to hurt as much anymore. Effort did pay off in the end, didn’t it?
"Now that Princess Shengxi and Young Master Lorde are impossible, you still have a chance."
A shadow flashed across Xi Lin’s eyes. She would never allow any woman to leave a mark in Lorde’s heart.
How could Anna not see the complicated look in Xi Lin’s eyes, but things had already come to this point; whatever she said would be useless, and would only earn Xi Lin’s resentment.
Just then there was a knock at the door. Anna walked over and opened it, only to see a tall man standing there, cold and handsome. It was none other than Lorde.
Anna immediately raised her voice in surprise and delight. "So it’s Young Master Lorde, please come in." She took the fruit basket from his hand with one hand while ushering him in with the other.
Overwhelmed with excitement and surprise, Xi Lin simply closed her eyes and pretended to be asleep.
Lorde walked in.
Anna smiled. "The doctor just called me over for something, I’ll head over now." With that, she turned and walked out, thoughtfully closing the door behind her.
Lorde lowered his eyes and looked at the woman on the bed with her eyes closed, his brows faintly furrowing.
"If you’re asleep, then I’ll go first." With that, he turned to leave.
Xi Lin immediately snapped her eyes open and said anxiously, "Don’t go."
Lorde’s footsteps halted. He turned around, his deep, dark gaze landing straight on her face. That look, as if he could see right through to her soul, made Xi Lin’s heart constrict. She forced a smile. "Sit down."
Lorde didn’t sit. His tall figure stood at the bedside, exuding a crushing sense of pressure.
Xi Lin looked up at him and smiled. "Did you come here just to see me?"
"I came today because there’s something I want to ask you." Lorde’s voice was still cold, devoid of any warmth.
Xi Lin was used to his coldness and didn’t mind it, gazing at him with infatuation. "What do you want to ask?"
"Five days ago, in an underground casino in Las Vegas, you met someone, didn’t you."
As Lorde’s steady voice fell, Xi Lin’s hands suddenly clenched tightly around the blanket, but her expression didn’t change. She asked in confusion, "What are you talking about? I don’t understand."
But her heart suddenly seized up. Did he know?
Lorde’s gaze shifted to the window as he spoke, stern and icy. "I’ve already pulled the surveillance footage from the casino that night. You can disguise yourself, but you can’t change the facts."
Xi Lin shook her head. "You must be mistaken. I stayed home all day that day, I didn’t even step out the door. How could I possibly appear in a casino in Las Vegas? I got hurt because of you, and you don’t care about me—yet you’re accusing me? Lorde, I’ve never asked you to treat me well, but that doesn’t mean I have no dignity." Her face was full of righteous indignation, as if she were the one standing on the moral high ground.
Lorde looked at her coldly, his gaze utterly devoid of warmth. In that long silence, Xi Lin’s heart gradually sank to the bottom.
"I already have your answer." With that, he turned to leave, his back cold and decisive, as if with this one walk, he was completely stepping out of her world.
Xi Lin suddenly panicked and instinctively jumped off the bed to grab him. "It’s not like that, let me explain, it’s not what you think..."
The man calmly shook off her hand, his eyes sweeping over her with indifferent chill.
"Don’t touch me."
