Chapter 635: Once In A Life Stroke Of Luck

A person who seemed to be in his late fifties, with dull brown hair, was lying on his couch while his beautiful wife massaged his thighs. From his face—even though it strongly resembled a rat—it was clear he was very happy.

And he had been like this since the day of the academy trial.

He was none other than Vritti, and the woman massaging his thighs was Alric’s mother.

"Haha, Usha, I really think you should keep bearing my kids till the end of time. Who knows, a genius like Alric could be born again?"

Usha became a little embarrassed.

"Dear, I am already bearing your child... please wait a few more months before trying again..."

"Of course, of course, hahaha!" Vritti laughed heartily.

At that moment, a maid came rushing towards his quarters.

"Lord! Lord! Young Master Alric has sent a letter!"

Hearing that, Vritti’s eyes lit up, and even Usha’s.

"My dear son!" she exclaimed.

"Hoho, if it isn’t my genius son, he even secured money to send a letter from so far away so quickly. I am so proud of him." Vritti said with a wide grin as he opened the letter.

But the moment he read its contents, cold sweat began to form on his back.

"The fuck...?"

The whole letter was filled with warnings that bordered on death threats—if Vritti didn’t know it was from his great, genius son. Not to mention, Alric had even used up almost all his money just to send this warning to Vritti.

Every sentence talked about how dangerous Lily had become, and even more so the useless adoptive brother she had ended up marrying.

He talked about their monstrous strength, monstrous backing, ruthless methods, and the warning Alric himself had received.

The more Vritti read, the more colour drained from his face until he was as pale as a white sheet of paper.

"Damn it, Kunal, which woman did you even marry...? I knew something was wrong when I saw that bright pink hair..." Kunal was none other than Lily’s father.

In his anxiety, he even started biting his own nails, especially after learning there was a high chance Lily might come for revenge.

At that time, there was no chance Vritti or his bloodline could survive.

He quickly started to rack his brain for some way to survive, but the only thing that came to mind was to run away.

But then he suddenly realised something.

The person whose downfall he had been secretly celebrating might be his only path to survival.

And that was—

Present day...

"He has helped tremendously...?" Lily narrowed her eyes, venom barely hidden behind them.

Leo looked towards Vritti’s kneeling form. He was shaking involuntarily with fear. He had never imagined he would stumble upon Leo and Lily when he thought the convoy from the Milti family had arrived. He was so scared out of his wits that he failed to notice an elf standing nearby.

He had come to support James in sending them away once again and act as moral support with his Mid 2-star strength, but instead, he had come face to face with the two monsters his genius son had been warning him about.

Damn, clever guy... Leo was astonished by this. Not only did Alric have some sense, but his inbred father also seemed quite the genius.

Looks like all the points from the looks department went to their heads... Leo thought.

Not only had Vritti helped with the administration, but he had also given financial support of 30 Gold Coins—virtually emptying the entire treasury his family had accumulated over generations. But the most important part was that he had stood beside James whenever the convoy from the Milti family came.

With Vritti and some of his capable men around, it made James’s faction look equal, if not stronger, than the convoy, preventing them from acting too far out of line and increasing the ultimatum from 2 months to 4 months.

Lily gritted her teeth.

Somehow, this man had literally saved the lives of people that could as well be said to be her parent figures. If not for him, James would have been sent on expeditions in the month of February or March where it would have been already too late.

Though Vritti had played a small part in her parents’ deaths, most of the blame belonged to Zerek, who was already dead. So a death sentence would indeed have been harsh and worthless. At most, something that would haunt him for life would have been enough. But this act of saving James gave him far too many plus points.

She took a few deep breaths, calming her nerves.

"Old man, consider yourself lucky. You are forgiven," Lily said.

As if a heavy burden had been lifted from Vritti’s shoulders, he collapsed onto his back for an instant before quickly straightening himself up and bowing again.

"I am truly sorry for what happened to your parents. As your great-grandfather, I should have acted, but Zerek had suppressed me too much at that time. I couldn’t do anything..."

Lily looked at Vritti with disgust.

"Don’t ever call yourself that in front of me again. Better yet, don’t even come in front of me again before I change my mind. I don’t even wish my enemies a grandfather like you. Tsk."

Vritti rapidly nodded and directly wriggled himself into the corner of the room to let the big guys talk.

Ahhh... Alric, you really are a genius... Vritti felt like he could sleep for a week straight after this mountain-like burden of death had been lifted off his shoulders, but he couldn’t afford to relax right now.

When everything was sorted out between Lily and Vritti—which was indeed very anticlimactic compared to what Leo had expected—James pointed at the rectangular metal box Leo had taken out.

He had to overlook the fact that Leo actually had a spatial ring, thinking he must have used the last bit of his savings to afford one.

"Leo, what is that?" he asked.

"A way out of the problem."

Saying that, Leo opened the box.

Every eye fixed on it began to shine.

Everybody’s eyes—except Lily’s and Sylrael’s—widened as they realised what they were looking at.

"G-Gold Coins!" James exclaimed.

"So many!" Vritti staggered back from his already cornered position.

Leo then looked towards James.

"Brother James, you seem to have been overlooking many things, but you even seem to have forgotten to check your brother’s strength that you always kept tract off when we trained."

James finally pulled his eyes away from the gleaming box and looked at Leo, his mouth still wide open from the previous reveal.
