Abyss Summoner

Chapter 724 - 709: Bear Goblin

Darkness is the main theme of this world.

But there are many fluorescent plants around, and it is precisely because of those unique mosses that the surroundings are not as pitch-black as one might imagine.

"It seems that the traversal has some level of randomness; this is not the marketplace that Elwin described."

"Not only is the environment different, but even the layout is distinct. The area where Elwin resides is an enclave ruled by Dark Elves, similar in size to a medieval castle. After centuries of development, it’s filled with giant black trees, and Dark Elves patrol it regularly."

But what about here in front of me?

As far as the eye can see, there isn’t even a single small shrub, not to mention a forest. Desolate and impoverished are Chen Feng’s first impressions of this place.

All signs indicate that Chen Feng is lost.

"Not an auspicious start," Chen Feng shook his head and mocked himself.

Chen Feng’s skills only enable him to open the Abyss, which does not imply that he possesses spatial traversal. Even the ability granted by shadow only allows a spatial jump of about a hundred meters. To reach the area where Elwin resides in one go is obviously wishful thinking.

One thing to remember is this.

The Dark Realm is generally divided into three levels. The Upper Dark Realm is close to the surface and has extensive contact with surface-dwelling races (trade, raids, conquest). Its main inhabitants are Dark Elves, Eye Demons, Dwarves, Heart Stealers, Deep Gnomes, and Ratmen. Water and food are relatively abundant, and the adaptation to darkness is milder.

The Middle Dark Realm’s residents often see surface races as slaves. They include Deep Gnomes and Koutao Fishmen, and finding water and food is challenging.

The Lower Dark Realm is incredibly bizarre, filled with strange societies and cultures. It is dominated by Mind-Reading Demons and is hostile to anyone different from them. Food and water are exceedingly scarce, leading these races to kill each other for survival. They are extremely adapted to darkness, with many monsters developing new unique senses. Evil humanoid beings exist on all levels, often serving as slaves in civilized cities.

Judging from the environment and view Chen Feng currently finds himself in, he’s in the Upper Dark Realm, which means he isn’t as far from the Dark Elves as he imagined. Perhaps by walking a short distance, he could see the marketplace Elwin established.

Of course, Chen Feng has a quicker way, which is to summon Elwin to guide him.

But this thought only skirts his mind before Chen Feng dismisses it. Compared to human lands, this is undoubtedly a new territory.

There are creatures here unlike those of humanity, and there is a culture that belongs here. Chen Feng’s plan is to pave a new trade route here, an Abyssal path that could nurture Order, rather than just serving as a tourist coming to sightsee at his marketplace.

Therefore, Chen Feng abandons the idea of summoning Elwin and instead uses his own legs and eyes to experience this unseen new world.

Chen Feng walks in the darkness, with numerous disgusting bugs crawling in the corners.

Worms.

This is the initial state of all Demons. These creatures are born in the blood pools, similar to the human myths of reincarnation, where in the Abyss, slain souls return to the blood pools, and the worms are the beings born from those souls.

Most surviving worms will advance to become Timid Demons, a naturally deceitful small form of Demon.

This is the Dark Realm. Although there are traces of Demons, there are more dark creatures here. Thus, compared to the dense masses of worms on other levels, the worms in front of Chen Feng are just like sparrows, merely insignificant creatures.

"Pat, pat..."

A series of footsteps comes from ahead.

Chen Feng dodges, his figure slowly merging with the surrounding darkness.

— Stealth!

After sacrificing the shadow, Chen Feng not only gained spatial leap but also acquired abilities such as stealth and backstab.

Three bear goblins appear before Chen Feng.

They are a variant of the goblins, inherently evil, greedy, and foolish. Bear goblins are tall, strong, ferocious, and more agile than regular humans. They are the rulers among goblin-like creatures and the strongest. They are named for their bear-like faces.

Their faces are covered in thick, coarse hair, ranging from brown to brick-red. Their eyes resemble those of beasts, with green-white eyeballs featuring a red pupil in the center, and they have a pair of shovel-shaped large ears. The bear goblins’ mouths are filled with sharp long teeth, their noses resemble those of a bear, and their sense of smell is similarly acute. Their tough fur and sharp claws also resemble those of a bear, yet their movements are much more agile.

In the Dark Realm, many impoverished and lower-tier bear goblins sometimes sharpen their claws with stone or bone fragments. Many high-tier bear goblins, including their leaders, prefer using spiked cudgels as weapons, and sometimes these leaders have mastered human spiked cudgel combat techniques.

The true life goals of bear goblins are only two: food and treasure. Prey and intruders are vital sources of these two things. This exceedingly greedy species plunders anything shiny, including weapons and armor. They won’t miss any opportunity to add to their collection, even through stealing, robbing, or raiding.

Bear goblins will seize any opportunity to ambush opponents. When hunting, they usually dispatch several scouts ahead of the main force to search. Upon discovering prey, they will immediately return to report and guide reinforcements to attack.

But ahead, they only face a swarm of fist-sized worms, so the bear goblins don’t need a complex formation. They just swarm forward, grabbing a worm with their bare hands and then shoving it into their mouths in a nearly savage manner.

It’s an extremely impactful scene.

Whether it’s the grating chewing sounds or the blood-splattered cheeks, they both test the limits of a normal person’s tolerance.

This is the norm in the Dark Realm, just like people picking fruit from trees when they’re hungry. In this divine-abandoned area, bending down to pick up a passing worm and swallowing it is the most normal thing.

The sound of explosion continued to ring.

The three bear goblins had strong appetites, as if in a competition, accompanied by the sound of bursting, those worms became meat paste in their mouths.

Kind of gross.

Yet Chen Feng’s face remained calm, seemingly unperturbed by this.

There were no other sounds around, which meant that the three bear goblins before him were the first intelligent creatures he’d encountered, apart from the worms, of course.

Their strength was nearly at the Bronze Tier.

In the Abyss, no creatures exist above the Bronze level. If one must compare, the worms under our feet might be like the humans in Order who have yet to awaken. Once they become Timid Demons, except for lacking the skills held by professionals, their power and speed can compare to the Awakened.

Number: Three.

Strength: Bronze Tier.

No other enemies nearby.

After a simple plan, Chen Feng dissipated his stealth and appeared openly in front of the bear goblins.

The three bear goblins seemed to sense something, just raised their heads and saw a cloaked figure standing before them.

"Roar!"

The bear goblins let out a roar and retreated a few steps, but they did not go far; they tilted their heads, observing the enemy’s every move.

They are the largest and strongest type among goblin-like creatures, and their aggression is much stronger than other similar creatures. Bear goblins live off hunting creatures weaker than themselves.

Chen Feng did not deliberately suppress the power he held, and precisely because of that, the bear goblins did not flee immediately. They stayed, attempting to judge Chen Feng and considering whether to eat him or flee.

Gazing at these three constantly glancing faces, Chen Feng made no extra moves; he simply raised his right hand and pointed at one of them.

"Bang!"

Head exploded!

Powerful Spiritual Power overflowed, instantly flooding the bear goblin’s head, like a balloon blown full, under pressure, turning into a heap of fragments.

With one finger, a companion’s head completely split open, a power even the Clan Leader did not possess.

Chen Feng proved himself to the surviving bear goblins.

No revenge or other emotions; within almost a second, the remaining two bear goblins knelt on the ground, continuously kowtowing to Chen Feng.

No emotions, only strength and weakness.

Dark creatures here have long been assimilated by the Abyss; they consider not revenge for comrades but admit mistakes to Chen Feng in the humblest way, attempting to preserve their lives.

"Take me to a nearby city, I need to trade some things." Chen Feng looked down at the kneeling bear goblins, using Demon Horn’s ability to convey his thoughts.

At this time, a trembling voice came from the side.

"Please don’t kill us, we’ll take you to the nearest Blingdenstone City right away..." A somewhat stuttering sentence came from the bear goblin’s mouth, though not spoken in Abyssal Language, Chen Feng, through Demon Horn, understood what they conveyed.

"Alright, let’s go now. If you perform well on the way, I’ll consider giving you your freedom back." At this moment, Chen Feng played the role of a cold strongman; within seconds, he controlled the life and death of two bear goblins.

One person, two bear goblins continued their journey.

"By the way, do you have names?"

"I..."

"Alright, no need for past names. From now on, you are Xiong Da, and you are Xiong Er."

"..." The bear goblins, though unsure what this meant, obeyed whatever the master said, having witnessed Chen Feng’s means of killing a companion with one finger, the surviving bear goblins’ loyalty completely altered!
