Chapter 703 - 688: Shocked Cat Race Members
Chen Feng once promised to find a suitable land for Flora’s clan to survive, and now, after becoming a legendary figure, he has fulfilled Flora’s dream.
As a Summoner adept in Abyss summoning, Chen Feng could open a rift, and although it only lasted for a dozen minutes, it was enough for thousands of Cat Race members to step into the Human World.
As for the living environment on the other side, although the conditions on Death Island were somewhat more suitable, it was still on the front line, so the destination was arranged in the territories of Order.
According to the arrangement, all Cat Race members had gathered together, but compared to joy, they now appeared somewhat lost and hesitant. For anyone, leaving their homeland for a completely new region might evoke this kind of bewilderment.
If it were their previous life, they couldn’t wait to leave, but ever since Flora’s rise, their lives had undergone earth-shattering changes. Even the water problem that had troubled them for countless years had been solved. For the Cat Race, they seemed to have found the so-called pure land.
Some even mustered the courage to reveal their thoughts to Merck, deciding to stay here and live. If their clan didn’t do well over there, they could still return to their homeland.
However, what awaited them was not approval, but another round of stick beating. Merck, having lived so long, naturally had his own wisdom. He understood that everything the clan had now was given by the man behind Flora. Leaving some clan members behind would undoubtedly be a sign of distrust, which was anger the Cat Race could not bear.
Therefore, Merck upheld Flora’s decision once again: Everyone, head to the Human World!
The Cat Race awaited quietly. Even though the cave couldn’t be taken, they could carry all their belongings, most of which were potatoes previously provided. Even though Flora earnestly persuaded them that there were richer foods there, the Cat Race, who feared poverty, still took what they considered wealth!
A pitch-black rift enveloped the Cat Race.
Suddenly, Merck felt the cool breeze become slightly warm, so he closed his eyes, but soon, an unprecedented freshness hit him, prompting the Cat Race to summon the courage to open their eyes.
What did they see?
"Is this the new environment where we will live?" the same question erupted from the mouths of the Cat Race, but it was filled with awe and reverence!
A refreshing breeze blew against their faces, and the Cat Race stood dazed, bathed in sunlight they had never witnessed before. Perhaps it was too dazzling, so everyone raised their arms to shield their eyes, only lowering them after a long time of adjustment.
All of this appeared like a dream before them, having come from an Abyss so barren it had no trees to the Human World described by Flora.
Sunlight, trees.
These are scenes only found in stories; the surroundings were so clean, the air so fresh, even the ground, surprisingly flat, not muddy roads.
The Cat Race didn’t even dare to take a step, knowing today was the day to go to a new environment, so they wore what they felt was their best attire, only to sorrowfully realize how poor they were upon arrival.
Not just Lily, even Merck felt awkward standing on this land, an air of inferiority could not be concealed in their every move.
Indeed, to Merck, everything around was like an oil painting, thinking even a single step could defile its beauty, Flora told them this was a pure land, but never mentioned it was like a true Divine Kingdom!
This couldn’t do!
A group of Half-Elves was in charge of reception, tasked with taking care of the Cat Race’s daily lives, and if they idly stood here, they would be reprimanded by Master Mata.
After some persuasion, the Cat Race finally dared to step forward and head toward their new home!
Surrounding them were fields of lush green, growing crops that they had never seen before: stalks as tall as a person, radishes with large leaves, and some visually appealing fruits, prompting the Cat Race to swear they felt their mouths water simply by watching.
Creatures from the Abyss are not picky eaters; in an environment unable to even provide regular meals, being picky is grounds for condemnation!
Lily lost count of how many times she swallowed her saliva; just the sweet scent of fruit made her stomach growl, knowing full well she had consumed a baked potato that morning, a whole day’s food before receiving aid!
The young girl labored to tear her attention from the fruit trees and hurried to follow closely behind everyone.
Nearing the city outskirts, they witnessed the factories and workshops introduced by the Half-Elves, massive structures comparable to fortresses standing on the ground, buildings the Cat Race could never have imagined in their entire lives!
On those tall buildings, smooth wall tiles of various colors were affixed, with some clear glass surfaces that were even more transparent than the legendary jewels!
Humans and Dimensional Creatures traversed freely around, perhaps already accustomed to the life of Order. They didn’t pause, merely glanced, and entered their daily labor.
Though schools were free, acquiring a secondary occupation required some costs, thus, parents needed more wealth!
As a result, they truly had no extra time to spend on such pointless observations.
Even though survivors might face greater pressure, Chen Feng still made the cold decision that no achievements could be gained without costs, perpetually provided benefits would only foster laziness.
Unconsciously, everyone had arrived at the municipal square, the grand facade of the city, splendid with eighteen stone pillars lined around, intricately decorated with beautiful patterns!
"Grandpa Merck, where is this place?" Lily asked, mustering her courage, both excited and afraid. "This is even more unimaginable than the Divine Kingdom you described!"
"Where exactly is this?"
"Is this the Pure Land that Clan Leader Flora spoke of?"
"Look at the carvings on these stone pillars, it’s simply beyond belief!"
For the other Cat Race members, it seemed they had already forgotten their previous reluctance because everything here was a powerful visual shock to them.
And at that moment...
A grand and solemn voice arose: "This is Order!"
"This is my city!"
The majestic voice in front of them left the Cat Race members in great shock, for everything before their eyes was something they could never have imagined, not even in their dreams.
Impossible?
No!
They simply didn’t dare!
How could these Cat Race members, who previously struggled even to eat, dare to dream of such things that even the so-called Divine Kingdom didn’t possess?!
With the towering factories, the orderly streets, the warm sunlight beating down, and the tall trees before them, the Cat Race members felt wholly out of place, like black-and-white photos set in the most luxurious of cities!
After a long stupor, Merck finally awoke, his spirit trembling as he knelt to the hard ground, paying homage: "Great Redeemer, you are the one who saved the Cat Race from water and fire. May you be with the Goddess, we vow to defend your territorial rights unto death!"
Chen Feng raised an eyebrow as he glanced at Merck—this elder was more perceptive than he had imagined, placing himself on an equal footing with the Cat and Dance Goddess right from the start.
Vow to defend territorial rights unto death!
This is an oath that would only be made to a Divine Spirit; is this a veiled expression of submission?
"Merck... I remember Flora mentioned this name to me, truly an interesting Cat Race member," Chen Feng murmured to himself.
The other Cat Race members around were evidently taken aback; they did not expect Merck to say such words. However, faced with this city and the formidable presence ahead, they bowed their heads and followed Merck in proclaiming this deeply meaningful phrase.
Merck had lived long enough.
Like Kes, at his age, everything he considered was for his clan. He understood that the future of the Cat Race lay in the hands of the man before them, and Flora had hinted at it in a roundabout way. Though her words were somewhat obscure, Merck gleaned Flora’s intentions.
Surrender.
That was what this man wanted—submission.
In a certain sense, the Cat Race had nothing to lose. After all, the busy Cat and Dance Goddess had no time to listen to such words.
If...
If this man is powerful enough and could provide the life the clan wanted, then what harm in abandoning faith? Merck’s heart had been broken by the Goddess long ago; to him, the future of the clan is his greatest concern!
Chen Feng originally thought there would be some stubborn members among the Cat Race; after all, they weren’t like those goblins. To goblins, with their deeply ingrained survival instincts where any giver of sustenance is like a mother, changing faith was as simple as drinking water.
But the Cat Race are intelligent beings; even in the most challenging environments, they never bowed to evil forces, instead continuing their difficult struggle.
Chen Feng had already decided that even if they didn’t submit and continued to hold faith in the so-called Cat and Dance Goddess, as long as they didn’t preach to those around them, he would still provide them the life they desired for Flora’s sake.
But Merck’s behavior was far beyond Chen Feng’s expectations. Here was an elder who lived with wisdom, understanding what choices to make.
Given this, things were much simpler. Though there were only around three thousand Cat Race members, many of them were also warriors. With the natural gift of speed, Order would soon have a formidable force of shadowy assassins walking in the shadows in the near future!
