Chapter 1107 - 655: Sightless, Yet Not Fortunate
This island is located northwest of O’hara, nearing the area that used to belong to Wano Country. It was once home to several villages, but after disasters struck, migration of some workers transformed these villages into towns.
Not far from the landing point, there is a coastal town. Issho senses the aura, taps his blind stick, and progresses into the town.
Observation’s sensing of aura is the sensing of life. A blind person remains blind; no matter how strong Observation is, it’s impossible to see the true appearance with the mind’s eye.
Of course, with the strength of Observation, even lifeless objects can be detected.
Thus, upon entering, his Observation covers the entire town, realizing this is a typical town under disaster governance.
Unlike other places, most island towns on the sea, unless they are prosperous areas, generally choose a habitable spot, with a few scattered buildings, lacking much tranquility and harmony.
Non-Adhering Countries lack human rights; not only do Pirates visit, but also derelict Navy members, often leading to poverty, with wealth being taken away the moment it is gained.
Adhering Countries are somewhat wealthier, but attract more Pirate attention, with the Navy being the typical tardy justice, not much better off.
But this place is different; like the people in O’hara and the large towns he traveled in the major islands, it is filled with feelings of peace and hope.
Issho did not arrive here suddenly. Before reaching here, he had already experienced O’hara and several large townships in Magnetic Field Island, where every person has something to do and something they want to accomplish, with work bringing them great satisfaction.
Issho was once a wanderer, having been everywhere, and is well aware of how those merchants operate.
Hiring people for work, of course, is best done with the lowest wages possible, and the more tasks one can perform, the better.
Normally, it’s impossible for everyone on an island to have a job, nor does a shortage of hiring usually occur. Employers rely on those unemployed to offer cheaper wages, creating more profit.
But this is impossible within Disaster’s territory.
The sole King of O’hara, the only one with ruling authority, desires not money, but prosperity.
The more he travels, the more he discovers this. From merchants to civilians, everyone acts according to the Sage’s commands; what he disallows will not occur.
It’s not the typical king who only cares about taxes and status, but treating all territory as one gigantic Pirate Ship, with people only holding different ranks, no special privileges beyond the Captain.
Issho had also heard about the great cleansing upon arriving here, but from the start, he never felt uncomfortable because the Sage, being a Pirate, naturally makes everything he does seem reasonable.
"Sir, are you blind?"
As Issho was pondering, a voice sounded from the side: "Wow! So tall!"
Issho turned his head, sensing a figure much shorter than him speaking nearby.
His height is two meters seventy, while normal people on the sea are around one meter seventy, making most people appear small in comparison.
"Indeed, I am blind," Issho said, "Is there something you need?"
"No, I haven’t seen you before, you are a stranger and blind. Are you here seeking refuge? Let me tell you, small places have no future. Even as a blind person, you should aim for bigger places! If you don’t mind, I’ll take you to O’hara when I go!"
The speaker’s voice suggests a youth, filled with intense longing, "That’s the Royal City! Where the grandeur resides. I heard the ground bricks are paved with gold. Making money there is like picking it up, opportunities abound everywhere!"
"Oh? Is that what O’hara seems like to you..."
Issho’s lips curled up as he asked, "Is this place not good? It’s peaceful and vibrant, with everyone feeling hopeful."
"How can you tell as a blind person?"
The youth chuckled, dismissing it, "Small places have no future at all. Here, you just find a job, but even work lacks options. Our town’s largest industry is fishing, along with marine coral trade, which also doesn’t interest me. I refuse to be a fisherman all my life. I want to go to O’hara Royal City, the place full of opportunities, to find my own career."
The youth was spirited, "Once the merchant ship arrives, I’ll board the ship to O’hara. Old blind man, would you like to go with me? I’ll take care of you till O’hara. There’s really nothing good here; as a blind person, you can’t be a fisherman, even if you’re begging you’d better find crowded places."
"In Disaster territory, begging doesn’t exist."
Issho shook his head, saying, "Alright then, since I’ve met you, I’d like to know, isn’t the sea dangerous for you? The sea has many dangerous environments, including Pirates."
The youth laughed heartily, as if hearing something amusing, putting his hands on his hips, "Our grandeur is the greatest Pirate! In the New World, there’s nothing we fear! If I face a dangerous environment and die, it’s just bad luck, but if any Pirate dares to confront me, it’ll be their bad luck! The grandeur will avenge me!"
That laughter carried heavy confidence, seeming absolutely trusting in the Sage, and his Disaster Corps.
