Chapter 306 - 180: Level 5 Mage, Flame Linked Stars
However, the parts exposed on the surface could only be considered a relatively small mining area.
The main deposits of Secret Silver Ore were still deeper underground.
Continuing forward, Lin Mo felt the path they were on begin to slope noticeably downward. This was clearly a deliberate choice made during the excavation, as it made travel easier than a sheer vertical drop that would require ladders.
After they followed the slope for a while, more and more signs of excavation appeared. The path grew wider and began to split into many forks, each leading to a different mining area.
"So, that’s the general situation in the mines. Besides this main tunnel, there are four smaller entrances... Since you’re two separate squads, how about you help us guard the west and east entrances, respectively?"
Upon hearing this, Lin Mo subtly furrowed his brow.
’My original thought was that our stronger group could be responsible for the main tunnel, while the more numerous Guards could split up to guard the other entrances.’
But the Guard Commander had done the exact opposite, assigning them to the tunnels on the periphery.
’Although as outsiders, we shouldn’t interfere with personnel arrangements, this deployment is clearly unreasonable...’
’Four words came to mind: either stupid or malicious.’
Watching the Guard Commander continue to make his tactical arrangements, completely absorbed in his own world, Lin Mo frowned slightly. His gaze met that of Landon, who had been assigned to the eastern side, opposite him.
Lin Mo understood at once and gave a faint smile.
...
Night had fallen. Outside the mine, Lin Mo, Ali, and Feney were hiding behind a nearby pile of rocks.
The night air near the mine was a bit chilly, and the dim atmosphere gave it the feel of a horror movie.
Ali, of course, wasn’t the least bit scared, and Lin Mo was naturally stout of heart. Only Feney seemed uncomfortable in this environment, lightly clutching the corner of Lin Mo’s sleeve.
Soon, a faint sound came from the front of the mine.
It seemed the thieves had arrived.
Lin Mo looked ahead and could faintly make out a dozen or so figures rushing toward them.
As they drew closer, he could hear them talking.
"Everyone be careful. Today’s not like yesterday. After the beating they took, there won’t be just a few guys on patrol tonight."
"Relax, boss. So what if those Guards are prepared? We’re the Blood Sea Gang!"
"Let’s go, go, go! We brought back so much yesterday, but it only refined down to a tiny bit. We’ve got to grab a lot more today."
The voices grew closer, and finally, their figures came into view.
Thugs are thugs, as they say. You could tell just by looking at them that they were different from your average Adventurer or other Professional. They had a sleazy air about them that simply couldn’t be faked.
’Guys like this are probably just Ordinary gang members.’
Just as he’d expected... Lin Mo gave Ali a look. The next moment, they shot out simultaneously, one from the left and one from the right, charging the petty thieves from two different directions.
"Boss, watch out! Someone’s here!"
"So what? It’s just a few measly Guards..."
The one called "boss" seemed extremely confident, waving the chopper in his hand.
However, his confident expression quickly stiffened.
He realized the two people in front of him didn’t seem to be Guards.
They had neat, magnificent equipment, and one of them was even wearing a Mage Robe, the likes of which he rarely saw even in the city.
"Crap, it’s an ambush! Retreat!"
And with that, the group immediately turned tail and ran for it.
But how could they possibly outrun Lin Mo’s Magic?
His [Wind-Binding Blade] finished charging almost instantly and smashed right into them.
Several members of the Blood Sea Gang were instantly cut down, their bodies severed. The few who ran faster were caught in the [Vortex] that followed. The mere aftershocks of the Magic were enough to tear them to shreds.
Ali took care of a few others.
Only their leader was fast enough to put some distance between them.
But there was no way he could escape from Lin Mo. Lin Mo strode forward and caught up in a matter of seconds, grabbing him by the neck as easily as if he were pinching a chick.
"I’d advise you not to make any sudden moves."
Lin Mo said with a smile, his eyes on the man’s slightly raised chopper.
Feeling the immense force that seemed ready to snap his neck, the petty leader didn’t dare try anything funny. He hastily dropped his chopper. "Bro... no, Boss... don’t do anything rash. I was just following orders."
Lin Mo glanced at him. He didn’t kill him right away, but instead asked suddenly, "Is this part of the act, too?"
The man was clearly stunned for a moment, his eyes darting to the side. "Wh-what act? Boss, what are you talking about? I don’t get it..."
"Hah."
Lin Mo sneered. "Stop pretending. What kind of normal thieves perform a whole dialogue before breaking in?"
"You just don’t seem to understand the situation. You didn’t really think you could come here and still have a chance to escape, did you?"
Done talking, Lin Mo couldn’t be bothered to waste any more words on him. He fired a [Flaming Arrow], sending the man to meet his subordinates.
’If the situation is as I suspect, then what comes next...’
Sure enough, it wasn’t long before strange, familiar cries echoed from the distance.
Lin Mo looked in the direction of the sound. A large horde of Goblins was sneaking toward them under the cover of night.
And their numbers far exceeded the one or two hundred the Guard Commander had mentioned...
