Chapter 273 - 172: Knight Skill: Taunt (2)
SCHLICK— Blood sprayed. Lin Mo’s Sword had nearly severed the Crimson Flame Tiger’s tongue. The blade pressed against its upper palate, sinking deep inside.
The Crimson Flame Tiger cried out in pain. At the same time, the attack it had just launched threw it off balance, and its massive body toppled forward.
Not having time to retrieve his Sword, Lin Mo simply let go of the hilt. He drew a dagger from his waist and used his forward momentum to slide right under the Crimson Flame Tiger. As he passed, the dagger in his hand ripped open the beast’s abdomen, using their combined momentum to carve a wound that stretched nearly the length of its entire belly.
It was clear that while the Crimson Flame Tiger might have held a slight advantage in Strength, Lin Mo was superior in other Attributes, such as speed and Constitution. Speed was particularly crucial; in battle, it could often be more decisive than sheer Strength. For instance, back when Lin Mo first arrived in this world, his Strength had been quite low. When facing stronger Demons, he often had to rely on his speed to kite them, slowly wearing them down.
Combined with his combat technique, which was far superior to the Crimson Flame Tiger’s, the fight, while not exactly one-sided, was proceeding with very little pressure on him.
However, the Crimson Flame Tiger was grievously wounded. All Lin Mo had to do was step forward and deliver the final blow. Just as it seemed the battle was over...
Before the Crimson Flame Tiger’s terrified eyes, the human in front of it suddenly exploded.
He literally exploded, vanishing in a violent blast.
As it happened, the Crimson Flame Tiger was just outside the blast radius and remained unharmed.
The human before it was gone. At first, the Crimson Flame Tiger thought it was some kind of attack and stayed on alert for a long time. But after waiting and waiting, the human never reappeared.
It was as if the whole thing had just been a nightmare.
However, the wounds in its mouth and on its belly were a painful reminder that it had been all too real.
"Er..."
Meanwhile, back with the real Lin Mo, a slightly awkward expression crossed his face. The duration of his Shadow Splitting Skill had run out.
’Just as I figured. After crossing that long, narrow passage, there wasn’t much time left for the Clone to fight.’
’I still haven’t used this Skill enough; I completely lost track of the time. I instinctively created some distance after that exchange. If only the Clone had been a little closer to that Crimson Flame Tiger, the Self-Destruction when the Skill ended would have been enough to finish it off.’
’Still, it doesn’t matter. That Crimson Flame Tiger is trapped in the chamber; it’s not going anywhere. I’ll just go finish it off now.’
’Speaking of which, this is a perfect chance to test something. I’ll see if I can gain shared Skill Level by killing a Demon with my Clone and my main body at the same time.’
Lin Mo had experimented with this before. When using a combination of Skills—for instance, a Status Skill like Invisibility paired with an offensive Skill—killing a Demon would grant Skill Level to both. However, if he used two offensive Skills, only one would gain Skill Level: whichever one dealt the fatal blow.
’I wonder how the Shadow Splitting Skill will be categorized?’
Having confirmed the correct path, Lin Mo headed directly for the rightmost passage.
Shefilya asked no questions, simply following him. The two of them walked through the long, narrow corridor and arrived before the open silver door.
Inside, the Crimson Flame Tiger was enduring searing pain. It lay on its back, licking its wounds with its pierced tongue. Although it was severely injured, a Demon’s vitality couldn’t be compared to that of a normal animal. Given enough time, it would recover. The process wouldn’t even take that long—not ten days or half a month, but merely two or three.
However, as the Crimson Flame Tiger was tending to its wounds, it suddenly sensed something was wrong. It lifted its head, and its eyes met Lin Mo’s.
In an instant, a look of sheer terror appeared on the Level 3 Demon’s face. That human was back!
It struggled to its feet, trying to flee. It had clearly lost all courage to face Lin Mo again. However, this was the real Lin Mo, far stronger than the Clone from before. He caught up to the beast in an instant and knocked it back to the ground. At the same time, he activated his Shadow Splitting Skill, and a Clone materialized beside him.
The next moment, Lin Mo drew his Black Sword and unleashed a Continuous Thrust at the Crimson Flame Tiger. Simultaneously, his Clone attacked as well, plunging its Sword toward the beast’s heart.
The Continuous Thrust from his main body and the Sword from his Clone struck the Crimson Flame Tiger at virtually the same instant. A moment later, two notifications popped up in his vision.
[Shadow Splitting] Skill Level +10
[Continuous Thrust] Skill Level +20
Lin Mo’s eyes lit up. ’So they can both increase at the same time? No, wait...’
’The twenty Skill Level points for Continuous Thrust is normal. But the amount for Shadow Splitting is clearly off. Even though it’s an Epic Skill, and the gains are supposed to diminish as its Skill Level increases, the reduction shouldn’t be this drastic from a Level Three Demon. Even if it wasn’t the full twenty points like Continuous Thrust, it should have been around fifteen or sixteen, not just ten.’
’Perhaps it’s similar to how Status Skills have a diminished effect when applied to the Clone? Maybe when the main body and the Clone kill a Demon together, the Skill Level gain is also reduced?’
That was probably the right explanation.
’But in any case, I still gained Skill Level for two Skills at once. That’s a definite win.’
