Seeing the look in Lin Mo’s eyes, the Guard Commander seemed to sense something and quickly said, "Young man, no matter how you look at it, this is an incredibly valuable treasure. Plus, I haven’t reported it yet, so Silver Stream City has no idea it exists."

"How about this... you let me go, we can say we successfully wiped out the robbers, and I’ll give this to you as your reward. What do you say?"

It seemed he was still trying to cover up his crimes.

Lin Mo shot him an indifferent glance.

’This Spirit Vein Mithril is indeed priceless, but a gentleman loves wealth only when it is acquired through righteous means. I’m not that shameless.’

’Besides, Landon is here too. I can’t just kill him to tie up loose ends.’

’I couldn’t bring myself to do something like that, and it would be a pain to explain. Better to just do the right thing and turn it in.’

’Besides, even if I kept it, it wouldn’t mean much if I didn’t know how to use it.’

Though he had made up his mind, Lin Mo didn’t respond immediately. Instead, he asked, "What about the ore you started moving yesterday... or even the days before? You should know where it is, right?"

"Well..."

The Guard Commander hesitated, clearly he knew the answer but was unwilling to give it up so easily. He planned to keep it as his last bargaining chip.

After all, he still couldn’t figure out what Lin Mo was thinking.

Lin Mo saw through his intentions. ’Still, I can’t just handle this myself. Better to let Silver Stream City have the headache.’

With lightning speed, he appeared before the Guard Commander in the blink of an eye and knocked him out with a swift chop to the neck.

With the troublesome individuals dealt with, this farcical inside job was finally drawing to a close.

Most of the Guards from the Secret Silver Mine had been redeployed to other mine entrances, where they fought viciously against the thieving Goblins. Although there were some casualties, the overall situation was not too bad.

After all, there weren’t any truly tough Goblins here—no Bronze Goblins, no Giant Goblins, just some Mutated Goblins at most.

A few other Guards had apparently been sent to search different sections of the mine under false pretenses, and they emerged completely baffled.

With the help of Shefilya and Landon, Lin Mo quickly handled the aftermath.

After that, they rested until dawn. Then, taking the Guard Commander—whom Lin Mo had to knock out again after he woke up—they returned to Silver Stream City by carriage.

...

"How did it go?"

That evening, Lady Beixila put down her pen and stretched her stiff neck and shoulders.

The Maid in front of her immediately moved to stand behind her. As she began to massage Lady Beixila’s shoulders, she reported in a soft voice, "Just as you predicted, My Lady, there was more to the theft than met the eye..."

"So, he figured it out that quickly?"

"He handled it flawlessly, before I even had time to react."

Beixila nodded, then smiled with a hint of resignation. "If he weren’t so exceptionally talented, but still possessed his administrative skills, I could entrust Silver Stream City to him in the future with peace of mind. But at the rate he’s growing... never mind Silver Stream City, even the entire Doria Kingdom will be far too small to contain such a genius."

The Maid behind her nodded in agreement. "Miss Flora has certainly met an extraordinary young man."

Thinking of Flora, Beixila’s expression grew a little awkward. "I wonder what the girl thinks of him... If this was our plan all along, it makes Feney and me look rather devious..."

The Maid behind her remained silent, clearly unwilling to comment freely on such matters.

"My Lady, regarding the matter between Miss Feney and him... when do you plan to..."

Beixila shook her head. "There’s no rush. I’ve already mentioned it to him before, so as long as he’s aware, that’s enough. They’re both still young. Let’s leave the affairs of the young to the young people themselves."

"But, about Shefilya..."

Beixila looked at the woman behind her, the companion who had been with her since childhood, like a sister.

"Although it was a matter of tradition—one that I myself followed—we are no longer part of that family, after all. Perhaps we can let the girl decide for herself."

"From what I observed on this trip, I don’t think you need to worry about that, My Lady."

The Maid smiled. "I’ve rarely seen that girl look so flustered and awkward before."

"Well then, that’s perfect..."

Beixila breathed a sigh of relief. After all, the bond between the sisters Shefilya and Feney had always been strong, just like her own bond with her companion.

"Still, to be able to attract even a girl like Shefilya... this young man, Lin Mo, must have some extraordinary charm."

"It’s hard not to like someone who is flawless in talent, strength, looks, and character."

Beixila was silent for a few seconds. "Was I too impulsive back then?"

"Do you regret it?"

Beixila smiled and shook her head. "Even if I could do it again, I would still make the same choice."

The Maid by her side smiled. "And I would be right there with you again."

...

It was already quite late by the time they returned.

Lin Mo handed the Guard Commander—who he’d lost count of how many times he’d knocked unconscious—over to the City Lord’s Mansion, along with the corpse of the suspected Blood Sea Gang Leader. Then, without bothering to collect any reward, he rushed back with Ali to get some rest.

Shefilya went with them and, as usual, made dinner.

After dinner, he lay in bed and read for a while, the feeling of exhaustion gradually fading away.

In truth, it was more mental fatigue from the tedium of the journey. Physically, with Lin Mo’s current Constitution, a mission that wasn’t particularly difficult was nothing to him.
