Chapter 275 - 172: Knight Skill: Taunt
"Let’s go. On to the next secret room."
Shefilya watched him put away the Scroll in his hand, and a wild thought suddenly crossed her mind.
A moment ago, Lin Mo had paused for a while with the Scroll, looking like he was deep in thought. It didn’t seem like he was just reading the Skill Scroll’s contents; it looked more like he was trying to learn and activate it.
She had indeed felt a distinct shift in Lin Mo’s Qi and Blood just now. ’Is he trying to practice it?’
’This guy... he couldn’t have learned it already, could he...’
’No, no... that should be impossible.’
Shefilya shook her head and hurried to catch up with Lin Mo.
Pushing open the large door at the end of the room, they were once again faced with four different branching paths.
’Does that mean all these paths lead to Silver Level secret rooms?’
Without another word, Lin Mo used the Shadow Splitting Skill to create a Clone and sent it down the first path.
The Clone quickly reached the end of the path. As expected, a silver door stood before it.
Pushing the door open, Lin Mo saw a scorpion about a meter tall. The creature was bright red all over, as if it had been cooked. Its two large pincers reminded Lin Mo of a lobster; he wondered how it would taste.
"A Flame Scorpion."
Lin Mo had recently crammed on information about Basic Level Demons, so he recognized the Demon before him. In terms of bloodline, the Flame Scorpion was definitely far inferior to the Crimson Flame Tiger he had just fought. However, this particular Flame Scorpion was a higher Level than the tiger, around Level 3.5.
A Level this high would be a bit tricky for Lin Mo’s Clone.
’Has the difficulty gone up... or did I just hit the jackpot on the first try?’
’Either way, I’ll fight first and figure it out later.’
The fight played out much like the battle with the Crimson Flame Tiger. However, the Flame Scorpion was weaker in terms of Strength, but its defense was a bit higher than the tiger’s.
The Clone’s duration was about to run out, but the battle had yet to reach a decisive conclusion. Although it had left some wounds on its opponent, they were clearly not fatal.
This time, however, Lin Mo paid close attention to the Clone’s remaining duration. Just as the skill was about to end, he suddenly controlled the Clone and had it charge straight at the enemy’s face.
The Flame Scorpion, of course, didn’t hesitate to snatch "Lin Mo’s" body with its fiery red pincers, preparing to deliver a vicious blow.
However, just as the pincers began to squeeze, the Clone’s time was up. The "Lin Mo" before it suddenly exploded.
At such close range, the full force of the explosion was unleashed upon the Flame Scorpion.
Lin Mo withdrew his focus, and the notification he had been waiting for appeared before his eyes.
[Shadow Splitting] Skill Level +20
’It actually blew it up!’
Lin Mo was pleasantly surprised. It seemed the power of the Clone’s Self-Destruction was greater than he had anticipated.
The [Shadow Splitting] Skill was currently Level 3. Against a Level 3.5 Flame Scorpion, the Skill Level gain wasn’t reduced by much, netting him a full 20 points.
He only needed 15 more Skill Level points for the skill to reach Level 4.
The battle was over and the first path had been explored, but Lin Mo wasn’t in a hurry to make a decision. He created a second Clone and sent it down the second branching path.
’The Flame Scorpion was strong, about on par with the Crimson Flame Tiger from before, so the reward in the Treasure Chest is probably good. But I should at least check out all four paths. What if there’s something better?’
"Lin Mo" quickly reached the end of the path and pushed open the door.
Before it stood a Bronze Level Goblin, around Level 3. It was clearly much weaker than the Flame Scorpion from the first path.
This time, he didn’t even need to use Self-Destruction. "Lin Mo" managed to kill it single-handedly before the Clone’s duration ran out.
[Shadow Splitting] Skill Level +15
"Skill [Shadow Splitting] Lv3 (80/80) has leveled up!"
"Current Skill: [Shadow Splitting] Lv4 (6/200)"
It had leveled up to Level 4. Lin Mo glanced at the skill’s effects.
[Shadow Splitting] Lv4 (6/200): Transform your shadow into a Clone to fight alongside you! The shadow will inherit 65% of the user’s Attributes, but cannot use Skills. It continuously consumes Qi and Blood while active and has a maximum duration of 600 seconds.
Just as he’d expected, the Attributes inherited by the Clone increased by another 5% after leveling up. The duration, however, didn’t seem to follow a pattern, jumping directly from the original 420 seconds to 600 seconds—a full 10 minutes. This gave Lin Mo much more breathing room for exploration.
’Onward,’ Lin Mo thought, sending a third Clone into the third branching path.
"Huh?"
A short while later, Lin Mo suddenly let out a sound of puzzled surprise.
