Chapter 110: The Death Knell
Before he vanished, Aidan sent one last thought sideways, quiet and precise.
[Aidan: Tom. Watch Ouja. Every thread he pulls, every step he takes. Don’t lose him.]
[Tom: On it. Threadseer doesn’t blink.]
The Legendaries meant nothing here. The two Epic-rank youths meant less. Ouja meant something, but not something worth spending this window on. Four guild leaders stood between Aidan and the rest of this fight, and four guild leaders were the only math that mattered for the next ten minutes.
He reached into his Inventory first, unhurried despite the speed already crawling under his skin, and cracked open the Elixir of the Tenth Hour.
[Elixir of the Tenth Hour consumed. Perception and Speed increased by 200% for Divine-rank and below lifeforms. Duration: 10 minutes.]
The world didn’t just slow down. It came apart into individual frames, every dust mote hanging in the air distinct and separate, every flicker of light off the cavern’s orange moss visible as its own event.
’Now we’re cooking.’ Aidan rolled his neck, feeling the stacked speed of Metalektron Physique Phase and the elixir layer together into something almost obscene. ’Deploy your domains, folks. Let’s see what four guild leaders bring to a party like this.’
They didn’t need the invitation.
All four felt the threat in the same heartbeat, decades of instinct screaming in unison, and all four answered the only way Final-stage Divine-rank Hunters knew how.
Halric’s domain bloomed first, a storm rolling out from him in every direction.
Tempest Reckoning.
Swallowing a hundred meters of cavern in howling wind and chained lightning that arced from wall to wall.
Ilyana’s answered a half-second later.
Fractured Mirror.
Unfolding around her in a field of drifting silver shards, each one a partial reflection that could become a striking point at will.
Seris’s came third.
Withering Hollow.
Spreading outward as a slow, patient fog that corroded stone and light alike wherever it touched.
And Torvald’s came last but heaviest.
Bastion Unbroken.
Turning the cavern floor beneath him into a living extension of his own body, stone breathing like muscle.
Four domains, overlapping and colliding in the same enclosed space, and Aidan stood in the middle of all of them grinning like he’d just been handed the best toy box of his life.
He vanished from where he stood.
Halric’s storm reacted before Halric did, lightning converging on the exact point Aidan should have arrived at from the last visible trajectory.
He wasn’t there.
The elixir’s perception boost let him watch his own path a half-step ahead of his body actually taking it, and he adjusted mid-motion, sliding through a gap between two lightning arcs that hadn’t existed a heartbeat earlier.
"Nice storm." Aidan’s voice carried easy over the howling wind. "Bit predictable, though."
Halric snarled and poured more power into Tempest Reckoning, the whole domain contracting inward, lightning threading into a cage meant to close from every angle at once.
Aidan met it head on instead of dodging.
[Conceptual Technique: Fourfold Cataclysm.]
Lightning and metal and flame and wind fused into one compounding burst that didn’t just answer the cage, it ate it, Halric’s own storm folding into the technique’s hunger and adding its strength to the blast instead of stopping it.
The cage collapsed inward on its owner, and Halric went down hard, both arms shattered, domain guttering to nothing around him.
He didn’t die.
Aidan’s palm was already on his face before Halric’s body finished hitting the ground, glittering darkness flooding out and swallowing him whole in the same breath the cataclysm finished discharging, no gap between one and the other at all.
Shadow Phantom Genesis Art.
One.
...
Ilyana had already folded three times before Halric finished dissolving, Fractured Mirror scattering her image across a dozen drifting shards, each one flickering with equal weight, none of them announcing which was real.
"Cute trick." Aidan tilted his head, studying the field of silver reflections with genuine appreciation. "Wrong night for it, though."
He drew instead, gesturing with one hand the way a man might draw an invisible bow, and the Wheel answered behind him, all fourteen aspects folding into a single, condensed line of light.
[Conceptual Technique: Convergence Arrow.]
The arrow didn’t aim for any single shard. It aimed for the domain’s own foundation, the anchor point every reflection drew its power from, and the moment it struck, every mirror in the field flickered in unison, real and false alike jolted by the same shock.
Ilyana’s real position betrayed itself in that single unified flinch, one leg buckling under the arrow’s backlash, her domain fracturing into inert glass around her.
"Found you."
Aidan closed the distance and drove a palm into her collapsing guard before she finished falling, darkness pouring out and devouring her the same instant her knees hit the ground, no pause between the strike and the swallowing dark.
Two.
...
Movement flickered at the cavern’s edge the moment Ilyana’s scream cut off.
One of the young Legendaries broke first, panic winning out over pride, bolting for the passage they’d all entered through with two guild leaders already gone.
He didn’t make it three steps.
Black-gold power flooded the cavern’s entire mouth in a single, decisive wave, Jovan’s barrier sealing every exit at once, and the fleeing Hunter bounced off it hard enough to sit down where he landed.
[Jovan: Nobody leaves. Not until my friend says otherwise.]
Aidan didn’t even glance over. Two targets left, and the clock behind his eyes hadn’t stopped moving for anyone.
...
Seris’s Withering Hollow had already eaten a third of the cavern’s air, poison-fog thick enough to corrode stone on contact, and she stood at its center with three fresh wards already stacking around her chest.
"You’re going to need better wards than that," Aidan said, striding into the fog without slowing.
The corrosion reached for him and found Silence waiting instead, the scythe’s mute current unraveling the fog’s ability to sustain itself one breath at a time. Seris’s eyes widened as her own domain thinned around her like smoke through an open window.
Aidan planted the scythe’s haft against the cavern floor and let Gravity answer alongside the frost, weight and cold compounding together into something neither aspect managed alone.
[Conceptual Technique: Winter’s Judgment.]
The pillar of crushing, freezing weight rose through Seris’s wards and the last of Withering Hollow together, folding her to one knee, her domain snuffed out under the pressure before it could recover.
Aidan’s palm found her face before her other knee touched the ground.
Darkness swallowed her whole in the same motion, her scream cut short by the same breath that ended it.
Three.
...
Torvald’s Bastion Unbroken had turned half the cavern into an extension of himself, stone plating rising in overlapping waves around his considerable frame, and he met Aidan’s approach with both fists already crackling with condensed force.
"Big domain." Aidan grinned, cracking his knuckles. "Let’s see if it’s got anything behind it."
Torvald swung first, a haymaker backed by every ounce of Bastion Unbroken’s borrowed mass, stone cracking off his knuckles with the force of a collapsing building.
Aidan didn’t dodge it.
He let it land, absorbing the impact through Halcyon’s Joy and the Fourfold aspects layered beneath his skin, and answered by opening both palms toward the incoming force.
[Conceptual Technique: Fist of Judgement.]
The technique drank Torvald’s own strike whole, every ounce of stone-backed force redirected and compounded, and discharged it back as a single condensed verdict of lightning that punched clean through Bastion Unbroken’s thickest plating.
He dropped to both knees, domain cracking apart around him in a hundred fault lines at once.
He didn’t get a third swing.
Aidan’s palm covered his face before he finished falling, and the same glittering dark that had already claimed three others swallowed Torvald whole in the same instant, his roar cutting off mid-breath.
Four.
...
Silence dropped over the cavern in the wake of it, broken only by the soft, steady patter of settling dust where four domains had stood minutes earlier.
Nine minutes and forty seconds. Aidan felt the elixir’s borrowed perception thinning first, the world’s individual frames blurring back together into ordinary time, Metalektron Physique Phase guttering close behind it like a candle reaching its last inch of wick.
