Chapter 558 - 359: Construct Larva (Part 2)
Constructs, as inorganic life forms born underground, don’t have a fixed shape and can transform in myriad ways.
In fact, when the constructs first began interacting with human civilization, they were very interested in humans and mimicked human forms on a large scale, making it extremely difficult to distinguish the real from the fake.
This was one of the reasons why high-level officials later decided to completely eliminate the constructs.
"No big deal, I know. What else?" Su Mo asked.
Future scratched her head and said dryly, "There’s more. It seems when you came into contact with it, you accidentally interfered with its gestation process, causing its birth to occur prematurely."
Dongdong suddenly interjected, "Premature baby?"
Su Mo gestured for her not to interrupt and quickly asked, "So what? Is this a problem?"
Future replied, "It wasn’t a problem initially, but I found the construct to be quite special. It has a certain degree of intelligence and self-awareness during its birth process and possesses complete memory."
"In other words, when you got hold of it underground, it had already seen and remembered you."
Su Mo blinked: "Okay, continue."
Future said, "You know about imprinting, right? It refers to chicks that, after hatching, perceive the first creature they see as their parent, forming a natural bond and dependence."
"This situation exists in many intelligent creatures, and it seems the construct is no exception."
Su Mo didn’t quite catch the point and asked in confusion: "And then?"
"And then—" Future dragged out her voice and then sighed, "Oh forget it, go inside and take a look yourself."
Su Mo gulped and cautiously pushed the door open and stepped inside.
Under the cool-toned lights, Su Mo saw his fourth ’clearance item’ on the big bed.
It was a little girl, about three or four years old from her size, sitting at the bedside in tight-fitting white pajamas, with long black hair cascading over her shoulders like black ribbons.
Her pretty little face had exquisitely delicate features, and her dark eyes were profound and bright, resembling the most flawless gems in the world. She carefully looked around, like a timid yet curious kitten getting familiar with a new environment.
Upon hearing the door open, she shrank her head and looked over.
When she saw Su Mo, the timidity in those eyes suddenly disappeared for some reason.
She jumped off the bed, ran over, clung to Su Mo’s leg tightly, and, raising her head, called out in a childish voice—
"Daddy!"
Su Mo stood there in a daze, completely stunned.
Daddy...
Daddy???
Su Mo couldn’t even close his mouth, looking at Future, who was stifling laughter behind him, and said blankly, "What, what do you mean?"
Future’s face was all scrunched up from holding back her laughter, and she said, "Well, I told you about imprinting."
"When you encountered it, it probably woke up for the first time during its birth phase, saw you first when it woke up, and due to the effect of imprinting, considered you as its nurturer, forming a natural dependency on you."
"In other words—boss, congrats on becoming a dad."
Su Mo: "??????"
I, Su Mo, age 25, a virgin, haven’t even married, woke up and suddenly became a dad???
"Hahahaha!!!" Someone started laughing, and the laughter was as loud as thunder.
Dongdong and the others laughed so hard they were falling over, someone even had a stomach cramp from laughing and leaned against the wall, and others had tears coming out, filling the room with a joyful atmosphere.
"Big bro, awesome, don’t you think we should have a celebration feast?"
"So funny, so funny, chief, from today you’re someone with a kid, does that mean my status increases by one level too?"
"Captain, I’m truly impressed, I’ve seen playboys accidentally father kids after romantic escapades, but I haven’t seen someone become a dad without losing their virginity, I’m speechless, hahaha!"
"Oh, little baby is so cute, quick, call me mom~"
Amidst everyone’s laughter, the construct infant merely hugged Su Mo’s leg tight, wide-eyed, curious about the meaning of these sounds.
Surrounded by the laughter, Su Mo found himself utterly perplexed, looking at the little construct infant clinging to him, and cluelessly sought help from Future: "But, what, what do I do about this?"
Future struggled to control her laughter: "What else can you do? This is it, you’ve now got a new identity—the babysitter dad!"
Su Mo was completely stupefied now, as the situation seemed quite different from the original plot.
In the game, there was no ’claiming dad’ plot.
In the original story, the construct infant wasn’t ’premature,’ and although it appeared as a young girl after birth, by human standards, she was at least in her teens with relatively mature intellect, akin to a friend or sibling in her interactions with the protagonist.
But now, a prematurely born kid jumped out and called him dad right off the bat...
Can the original plot mechanisms still be applied? If not, then what should be done?
It’s important to know this isn’t human, but a construct and not just any construct!
The construct’s life structure is different from humans.
Humans, regardless of their postnatal status, all share identical life structures.
Constructs, however, are similar to a bee colony, a civilization driven by hive mind, with some individuals being workers, others drones, which is determined at birth.
The construct infant here becomes the fourth significant clearance tool because it is extremely rare, a ’Queen Bee’ type in constructs.
Raise her well, and she’s a treasure, but what if not, and she becomes a great threat?
Su Mo swears, he has never been this worried since his transmigration.
Future eventually calmed down, waved her hand and said, "Alright, alright, enough laughing, the construct infant was just born and isn’t accustomed to the environment yet, she needs ample rest."
She crouched down and said gently to the construct infant, "Hey little one, let’s go to bed, okay?"
The construct infant hugged Su Mo’s leg tighter and shrank further behind him, with only her eyes cautiously watching Future.
Future signaled Su Mo with her eyes, winking repeatedly.
Su Mo, completely baffled, said, "Sis, I don’t understand what your winks mean..."
Future: "Oh, silly... take her to bed."
Su Mo instinctively looked at the construct infant, who also lifted her head to look at him, the timidity in those eyes had disappeared, leaving only the innocence reserved for family.
Su Mo hesitated for a moment and dryly said, "Baby, you’re a baby, let’s go to sleep, okay?"
This time the construct infant was obedient and responded, "Mm."
She ran to the bedside, took off her slippers, climbed into bed, and after settling in, reached out her arms to Su Mo, sweetly saying, "Hug!"
"Alright, alright, come for a hug." Su Mo walked over and wrapped the construct infant in his arms, gently caressing her head.
The construct infant seemed to relish this feeling, rubbing her soft cheek against Su Mo’s shoulder like a spoiled little kitten, "Daddy, goodnight."
Listening to this childish voice, Su Mo inexplicably felt a pang of emotion, as if his heart were melting, and a smile unconsciously spread across his face.
After soothing the construct infant, Su Mo turned off the lights and tiptoed out of the room.
The others had gone off to their own activities, leaving only Su Mo and Future conversing.
Future tucked away her previous playful demeanor and earnestly said, "Boss, I need to report the preliminary findings of our research."
"This construct life is amazingly unique, as you can see, it possesses intelligence from birth and in an extremely short time can understand and use human language."
"Moreover, it can perfectly mimic human forms, even replicating all physiological functions humans have, such as breathing and eating."
"But fundamentally, it differs a lot from humans, primarily in its powerful physical traits."
"When it was born and startled by unfamiliar surroundings, it ripped open a metal cabin barehanded, with any damaged areas self-repairing swiftly at an atomic level."
At this point, Future’s expression became somewhat hesitant, her voice lowering, "Honestly, I’m excited yet a little worried..."
"Hastily cultivating such an unknown life form, I don’t know if it’s a blessing or a curse."
