Chapter 596 - 378: Trumped-Up Charges_2
"The true heroes are others, like City Council President Amir, Rust Wall Defense Team Commander Watanabe No, and many others who would rather bear infamy yet remain steadfast at their posts, following orders despite being hated by the populace. They are the gentlemen worthy of respect."
Sikinkov jumped to his feet, snapped, "No need to mess with my mind! What I’ve done, I’ve done. I’m prepared to face whatever punishment you have!"
Luo turned around, the smile on his face becoming mysterious, "Alright then, let’s discuss your punishment."
The accompanying clerk retrieved a document from the briefcase and handed it to Luo.
Luo placed the document on the table, her slender fingers tapping the signature area with a sharp crisp sound, and said with a smile, "Sign it."
Sikinkov took a look at the document, unsurprisingly, it was a confession.
However, its contents were completely different from what he expected.
Not about dereliction of duty, negligence, or defying superiors.
But sexual assault!
This document accused him of sexually assaulting a little girl and demanded that he sign to confess!
Sikinkov flung the document, "What the hell is this supposed to mean?!"
Luo, not as tall as Sikinkov, leaned forward slightly, looking up at him playfully like a mischievous girl, smiling, "Earlier this year, you initiated a reform within the Public Security Bureau."
"Many of those reforms were clearly mimicking Alan--the director who forged the golden decade for the Public Security Bureau. If I’m not mistaken, you must have admired him deeply, right?"
"Since you admire him so much, let’s arrange for you to have the same fate. Just like how he was brought down in the past, you’ll be brought down today."
Sikinkov clenched his fists, roaring, "I admit to every overstepping incident during the Beast Crisis, every single one. If you want to arrest me, go ahead! But I won’t confess to something I didn’t do!"
Luo straightened up, her golden eyes dark and unfathomable, "Arresting you is simple, given what you’ve done before, there’s no way you can deny it."
"But I don’t want to arrest you on those charges, like dereliction or defying superiors... If you fall for those reasons, maybe you’ll be imprisoned, but your deeds will remain, remembered by everyone."
"A false gentleman being remembered, that’s a serious mistake, and it would corrupt societal atmosphere. As an Upper Court Envoy, I’m obliged to correct these mistakes."
"So, I won’t let you fall with dignity, I’ll assign you other charges, those so disgraceful that mentioning them alone disgusts people."
Sikinkov’s facial muscles twitched continuously, he grabbed the confession and tore it to shreds, then crumpled it up and forcefully threw it on the table, venting his anger.
Luo: "Looks like you’re determined to oppose me."
Sikinkov said coldly, "What do you want to do? Get someone to hold my hand to forcibly sign the confession?"
Luo chuckled, "You jest, we conduct affairs by procedure. Look over there, the law enforcement recorder is filming the whole time. If you don’t voluntarily sign it, forcing it won’t count."
Sikinkov: "I’m telling you, I absolutely won’t sign!"
Luo: "Don’t answer so quickly. Check out a few things first."
She nudged her chin toward the accompanying clerk, who understood and sent a message on the phone.
Luo: "Director, opposing the Upper Court doesn’t end well. Even if you’re not thinking for yourself, shouldn’t you consider those around you?"
Sikinkov frowned, not understanding the meaning of this statement.
Just then, his pocket phone suddenly started vibrating.
He took it out and saw it was a video call from his assistant Yang Le.
Sikinkov hadn’t planned on answering, considering there were more pressing matters at hand.
But suddenly, he caught that mysterious, almost all-knowing smile on Luo’s face.
Sikinkov realized something, connected the video call, and the following scene made his pupils immediately dilate.
The scene showed a dimly lit room, with two burly men on either side holding a man’s head down into a bucket of water.
The man convulsed violently, body shaking and legs flailing, but unable to break free.
The burly men let up slightly, lifting the man’s head from the water.
Sikinkov recognized the face--it was Yang Le, who had fought tooth and nail alongside him on the frontier.
"Ah... ah..." Yang Le, tortured by waterboarding, snot and tears streaming, his state of mind unclear, uttering broken cries.
Just having caught his breath, the burly men pushed him back into the water to continue the ordeal.
Before long, the video call was cut off.
But soon after, a notification came in through the phone’s email: an anonymous email with an attached video.
Upon playing it, the scene showed a young girl.
This girl wasn’t unfamiliar to Sikinkov. Back when he and other officials cleared a path for refugees with their physical presence, she clung to his coat tail, following closely.
The child’s age and appearance closely resembled "Xiaotiancheng," who appeared on the program "Dialogue with the Director," leaving a deep impression on him.
Judging by the video’s background, the little girl was sitting in a car, with a youth beside her.
The youth, smiling, said, "Come on, little friend, let’s shoot a video to greet the director."
The little girl waved at the camera, showing a sweet smile, "Director, this Upper Court big brother is taking me to the amusement park! I’ve never been before, I’m so excited~"
The youth patted the little girl’s head, then casually lifted his coat, revealing a gun hidden inside, flashing a sinister grin at the camera.
Looking at the frozen Sikinkov, Luo smiled meaningfully, "Director, you fancy yourself a lone hero, yet you’re so easily caught by others’ weakness. Aren’t you being too careless?"
"You bastard!!!" Sikinkov’s emotions erupted, grabbing an empty wine bottle from the table and viciously swinging it at Luo’s head.
"Bang!" The bottle smashed onto Luo’s forehead, the blow unreserved, shattering the glass bottle directly; she staggered back two steps from the hit.
Sikinkov wanted to stab her with the shattered bottle, but hadn’t got the chance to advance before the rushing guards pinned him down firmly.
"Hehe... hehe..." Luo let out a low laugh, raising her head slowly, her face was covered in blood, even staining the collar of her white shirt.
But soon, an astonishing sight occurred; the wounds on her forehead caused by the bottle instantly healed without a trace.
This was clearly an ability of the Crimson Rose Blood Code.
Judging by the rapid healing, the rank wasn’t ordinary at all.
Luo accepted a handkerchief handed to her by an assistant, wiping away the blood on her face. When a bit got on her fingers, she casually sucked it off.
After wiping the blood, Luo squatted in front of the pinned down Sikinkov, lightly patting his face twice, "I know you won’t sign, you’ve been fooled."
She stood up, looking at the clerk holding the law enforcement recorder, asked, "Did it all get filmed?"
Clerk: "Everything was captured, we’ll edit it afterwards, just keep the part where he’s hitting."
Luo slowly said, "Hm~ physical assault on an Upper Court Envoy, violent resistance to examination, that’s worth a good ten or twenty years in prison."
Sikinkov’s forehead veins bulged, he roared while desperately trying to lunge forward, "I’ll damn well kill you!!!"
Yet no amount of struggle worked, he was pinned tightly by the guards.
Watching the powerless rage of Sikinkov, Luo, as if toying with prey already caged, said in a playful tone, "So scary? How about we add another—"
She deliberately stretched her voice, then chuckled, "Intimidation charge~ Lawyer, what do you think?"
The lawyer confidently said, "Intimidation charge, no problem at all, the sentence can be increased by a few years."
The guards hauled off the shouting Sikinkov, leading him toward the hovercar waiting outside the door.
Before the door closed, Sikinkov heard Luo’s meaningful voice, "Enjoy this prison ordeal, Director."
