After I Dumped 7 Beast Husbands and Ran

Chapter 21: Father and Son Brave the Rain to Find Her

In the end, Nan Zishi decided to follow her heart and adopt the wolf pup abandoned by its parents.

As she rode the Wolf King on her way back, the rain suddenly began to pour.

With the rain coming down this hard, and a suckling wolf pup tucked into her clothes, she clearly wasn’t going to make it back.

Nan Zishi patted the Wolf King beneath her and said, "Little brother, let’s find a nearby cave to take shelter from the rain."

"AWOO!" The Wolf King led Nan Zishi to a cave. After sniffing around carefully to ensure it was unoccupied and safe, he settled in to wait out the rain with her.

Inside the cave, Nan Zishi watched the raindrops outside, guessing that the storm wasn’t likely to stop anytime soon. She asked the Wolf King, "You’re not heading back?"

The Wolf King shook its head and backed away, as if to say, ’No way, no way. If I don’t get Nan Zishi back safely, my mate will beat me up.’

The wolf pup in Nan Zishi’s arms began to squirm, seemingly hungry. Nan Zishi took some goat milk powder from her dimensional space, prepared the milk, and fed the pup.

The rain poured, trapping her in the cave with only the Wolf King, a little Snake Beastman cub, and a newborn wild wolf pup.

For some reason, Nan Zishi suddenly recalled her time at the Beast Hospital back on Earth.

At their Beast Hospital, it was mainly just her and her young nurse, Xiao Yi.

Back then, she had been just like this, feeding an abandoned kitten while Xiao Yi complained beside her, "You’re rescuing another kitten? So many people abandon them, you can’t save them all! We’re a pet hospital, not a rescue shelter."

"Oh my god, now I have to find homes for them again. I’ve already posted so many adoption notices. I even posted so many videos on TikTok about free adoptions, and a lot of people still called me a scammer. It makes me so mad."

Back then, Nan Zishi could only smile apologetically. "Thanks for all your hard work. We just do our best and leave the rest to fate. Besides, look, it’s not just me. So many other animal rescuers bring in kittens and puppies for treatment every day."

The nurse, Xiao Yi, would complain as she worked, but Nan Zishi knew she was just venting. In reality, she never slacked off on any of the rescue work that needed to be done.

Nan Zishi waited from dawn until dusk, but the thunderstorm still hadn’t stopped.

Nan Zishi suddenly remembered she had promised Hu Bai that morning that she would try her best to return today. ’I wonder if the father and son are worried about me.’

She took two packets of instant noodles and three ham sausages from her dimensional space. She found some firewood in the cave, started a fire, and cooked the noodles and sausages.

She gave the Wolf King a packet of noodles and one sausage, fed Little Yang’er another sausage, and had a packet of noodles and a ham sausage herself.

There wasn’t much dry firewood in the cave, and the fire soon died out.

Nan Zishi leaned against the Wolf King’s back. In the cave, surrounded by the rain, a sudden feeling of loneliness washed over her.

She had no parents here, no familiar colleagues, no home.

Her heart suddenly felt empty.

Nan Zishi watched the curtain of rain and hugged her knees.

She didn’t know how much time had passed, but Nan Zishi thought she heard a voice coming from within the downpour.

"Nan Zishi! Nan Zishi!! COUGH COUGH... Nan Zishi!!!"

Nan Zishi shot to her feet.

’Am I hearing things?’ she wondered.

The Wolf King suddenly stood up, its whole body on alert, baring its teeth.

"Pretty Sister!"

"Nan Zishi!! Nan Zishi!!!"

Little Snake Yang popped his head out. "HISSSSSS!" ’Pretty Sister, it’s Hu Bai and Fox Qi!’

Just when she was trapped by the storm, confined to the cave, hugging her knees in loneliness, she heard someone calling for her!

Nan Zishi couldn’t describe her feelings at that moment. She rushed out of the cave and shouted, "Hu Bai, Aqi! I’m over here!"

Suddenly, with a RUSTLING sound, a snow-white fox with slender limbs appeared before her, carrying a smaller fox on its back.

The little fox had a large leaf wrapped around its head, but much of its fur was still soaked.

The large fox, however, was drenched to the bone. Before seeing her, his eyes were filled with panic, but they calmed the moment he laid eyes on her.

Hu Bai’s cold eyes swept over the Wolf King beside Nan Zishi. The Wolf King seemed to sense a terrifying aura, tucking its tail between its legs and taking two steps back with a pathetic whimper.

Nan Zishi quickly stepped in front of the Wolf King and said to Hu Bai, "He’s my little brother, a wild wolf I tamed."

"A tamed wild wolf?"

Hu Bai leaped to Nan Zishi’s side, and Fox Qi jumped off his back. The two of them shook their bodies, flinging water everywhere.

Nan Zishi quickly took a few steps back to avoid the spray.

Then, right before her eyes, Hu Bai and Fox Qi transformed into their human forms.

Nan Zishi’s face flushed beet red. She covered her face with her hands, quickly turned away, and stammered, "Quick, get dressed!"

"Pretty Sister!!" As soon as Fox Qi had his Beast Skin Skirt on, he lunged over and hugged Nan Zishi. "We finally found you! Father and I were looking for you for so long."

Nan Zishi picked Fox Qi up. For some reason, her lonely heart was instantly filled.

"What are you two doing here?" Nan Zishi looked at Hu Bai. "Why did you come looking for me?"

Hu Bai’s snow-white eyes stared straight at her. "You promised me you would be back. The time came, and you weren’t back. Is it so strange that I came looking for you?"

Hu Bai sniffed the air near Nan Zishi and asked, "What’s that you’re holding?"

"Oh, this..." Nan Zishi fumbled and pulled a small wolf pup from her clothes.

Hu Bai’s expression suddenly changed.

For some reason, Nan Zishi felt a little scared. She quickly explained, "This isn’t my cub! It’s my little brother’s and his mate’s cub. They abandoned it, so I thought I’d try to raise it. Wolf pups grow up fast; it’ll be big in a few months."

Hu Bai’s expression was strange, and Nan Zishi couldn’t figure out what it meant.

Finally, Hu Bai sighed. "Wild animals are for eating. Are you planning to raise it until it’s bigger and then eat it?"

Hearing this, the Wolf King’s eyes went wide, and it backed away. ’This terrifying Beastman wants to eat wolves! How scary!’

Nan Zishi was stunned. "No, I’m not going to eat it! I’m saving it!"

Hu Bai’s expression grew even stranger. The Fox Beastman asked, "So, why are you saving a wild animal?"

Nan Zishi: "...?"

Nan Zishi became flustered. "No! I was thinking I’d raise it until it’s bigger, and once it can protect itself, I’ll set it free."

’Is saving a small animal that hard to understand?’

"You just want to raise a wild animal?" Hu Bai didn’t understand. "An animal that’s meant for eating?"

Nan Zishi: "..."

’This is insane! Hahaha!’

For once, Nan Zishi acted childishly. "I’m raising it, and that’s final!"

"..."

Hu Bai was taken aback for a moment. After a long pause, he just said, "Oh."

"..."

Nan Zishi had the odd feeling that she had, in a very strange way, just won.
