Lang Xian had only run a few steps when Wolf Mu tugged on his brother’s hand. Lang Xian turned back to see his little brother looking at him with pleading eyes.

Little Xian was a little angry. He whispered, "It was hard enough just saving you. How could I possibly save someone else?"

Little Mu pursed his lips. He didn’t know why, but from the bottom of his heart, he’d taken a liking to the little girl.

The two little wolf pups ran a few more steps forward.

Little Xian shook his head and turned back with a heavy sigh.

"I give up! Let’s go. We’ll save her!"

Little Mu’s eyes instantly brightened!

The chubby Little Mu had never been so eager to do anything before.

The two Silver Wolf Pups snuck back, just as a few Cold-blooded Scorpion Beastmen were in the middle of a shift change. They were still eating and hadn’t noticed the pups.

"Shh," Lang Xian whispered.

Little Fu nodded vigorously.

Lang Xian untied the ropes binding her. He hoisted the water bucket onto his back, and Little Mu helped support it from behind. The little golden mermaid happily poked her head out to look around.

The two wolf brothers were taking her away!

"They’re coming back! Let’s go, quick!"

The two wolf cubs ran out quickly with the water bucket on their backs. However, the two little cubs weren’t very big, and carrying the heavy bucket was a struggle.

They came to a wall. Little Xian said, "Little Mu, you climb up first. I’ll pass the bucket to you, and you pull it up!"

"Okay!"

The chubby Little Mu scrambled over the low wall by stepping on Little Xian’s shoulders. Little Xian struggled to lift the bucket while Little Mu pulled from above.

"Still eating?! The mermaid is gone!" a Scorpion Beastman yelled. The sound of scattered footsteps from the other Scorpion Beastmen followed.

Little Xian said anxiously, "Oh no, they’re coming!"

With a sudden burst of strength, Little Mu hauled the bucket up. Little Xian vaulted over the low wall, and they took off running with the bucket.

"Over here! They’re over here!"

It was then that Little Mu finally realized they were too weak. It was hard enough for the two of them to escape on their own; taking the little girl with them was simply impossible.

After running behind a large tree, Lang Xian set the bucket on the ground. The mermaid cub poked her head out and looked at him pitifully.

Lang Xian’s heart softened. He spoke quickly, "Fufu, your name is Fufu, right?"

"I can’t save you right now, but I’ll go find someone who can. Don’t be afraid. I’ll tell your people what happened, and they’ll definitely come for you!"

Little Fu gave her two big brothers an adorable nod.

Lang Xian grabbed Wolf Mu, and they turned and ran.

"The Little Mermaid is here!" The Cold-blooded Scorpion Beastman, Scorpion Yu, had found Little Fu.

"Damn it. This is the work of those two Silver Wolf Cubs."

"But two Silver Wolf Cubs aren’t worth much anyway. A female mermaid, on the other hand, is worth a lot."

"You few, go after those two silver wolf cubs. The rest of you, follow me and bring the mermaid cub back!"

Several Cold-blooded Scorpion Beastmen walked along the path to the barter market, carrying the water bucket.

Just then, a snow-white Crane Bird Beastman descended from the sky, carrying a young fledgling on his back.

The fledgling was Huo Jun, the only son of Chi Xiao, an Eagle Beastman and the current Clan Leader of the Bird Clan.

He was just over six years old, but because he was an eagle, he grew faster than others. His build was taller and larger than other five- or six-year-old cubs, making him look about seven.

But he had a congenital vision impairment and couldn’t see. Because of this, he always wore a blindfold made of red feathers.

He smelled a sweet, milky scent in the air and asked the Bird Beastman beside him, "Uncle Ah Xian, what’s that up ahead?"

The Crane Beastman, He Xian, set Huo Jun down on the ground. His tone was gentle. "Young Master, they’re Cold-blooded Scorpion Beastmen. They have a little mermaid cub with them, likely to be sold as a Beast Slave."

"A mermaid cub? Uncle Ah Xian, is the Little Mermaid a boy or a girl?"

"A girl."

"I want to buy her. Ask them what they want."

"Alright."

While He Xian was negotiating with the Cold-blooded Scorpion Beastmen, Little Fu peeked out from the water bucket, blinking her large, golden eyes.

Then, her face suddenly lit up with joy, and she reached her arms out toward Huo Jun.

"Su Niao Guoguo! WAAH!"

...

Nan Zishi ran and ran, heading for the sea, but somewhere along the way, she’d gotten a bit lost.

She was sure she had reached the sea, but she couldn’t find her tent.

’How strange.’

As Nan Zishi walked, she came to a place that looked somewhat familiar.

It looked familiar, not far from where she had bought Lanxing. If she remembered correctly, this area was a barter market for the Beast World.

In this world, the sale and trade of Beast Slaves were permitted.

The buying and selling of sea salt, the trading of Beast Skins, the exchange of Beast Slaves—it all happened here.

With no way to navigate, Nan Zishi looked out at the featureless coastline, completely lost.

’Where on earth is my family?’

Suddenly, a roar from the Cold-blooded Scorpion Beastmen echoed along the coast.

"There! Those two Silver Wolf Pups are over there!"

"Get them! Get them, quick!"

Nan Zishi looked over curiously and saw two little Silver Wolf Pups running for their lives with Cold-blooded Scorpion Beastmen in hot pursuit.

She hadn’t planned on getting involved, but just as the two Silver Wolf Pups brushed past her, her eyes met Lang Xian’s and Wolf Mu’s.

’What beautiful pairs of big, silver eyes.’

For some reason, Nan Zishi’s heart skipped a beat.

She pressed a hand to her chest, speechless with herself. ’Nan Zishi, oh, Nan Zishi. You’re a Beast Doctor. You, of all people, should know when to step in and when not to. Since when did you decide you wanted to be a saint?’

She glanced again at the two fleeing Silver Wolf Pups.

After taking a few more steps, she grit her teeth, turned around, and ran over, scooping up one Silver Wolf Pup in each arm.

"Hey! What are you doing!" the two Silver Wolf Pups struggled.

"Shh, be quiet."

She was incredibly fast. After a few nimble steps, she took the two Silver Wolf Pups and hid with them up in a large, nearby tree.

The Cold-blooded Scorpion Beastmen chasing the pups ran to the spot, confused. "Strange. They were just here, but the trail went cold."

"Those two little guys are slippery."

"Split up and keep searching!"

"Yes!"

Only after the Scorpion Beastmen had left did Nan Zishi and the two Silver Wolf Pups poke their heads out from the bushes.

Lang Xian tilted his head to look at Nan Zishi.

Wolf Mu tilted his head to look at Nan Zishi.

Nan Zishi glanced from one to the other, then subconsciously gave each of their wagging tails a couple of good strokes.

In an instant, the faces of the two young cubs flushed red.

Lang Xian struggled out of Nan Zishi’s arms. With a beet-red face, he pointed at her and stammered, "Female, you... you... you... you... you took advantage of me!"

Nan Zishi was completely innocent. "Took advantage of you? How did I take advantage of you? I just saved you, what’s wrong with petting your tail?"

’To be fair,’ she thought, ’a Silver Wolf Pup’s Qilin Tail is really satisfying to pet.’

"You can’t just go around touching tails!" Lang Xian cried out anxiously.

Wolf Mu shook his head. "Father said that good cubs have to maintain their integrity and not let bad females touch them. My brother’s right. It’s not proper for you to touch someone’s tail so casually."

Nan Zishi was completely charmed by the chubby little wolf cub.

Just as she was about to give it another stroke, Little Mu moved his tail away.

They had seen this pretty female before—she was the one they met in Stone Village.

Back then, the pretty female had been holding a little fox cub, and he’d been so envious.

Then they’d seen her again on the beach, and he’d been even more envious of her cubs then.

’But wait, wasn’t that little golden mermaid her cub? Isn’t she worried that her cub is missing?’

’She must be a bad mother!’

Little Mu wasn’t the only one who thought this; Little Xian did, too.

Little Xian thought about his own bad mother, who had sent his and Little Mu’s fathers, Wolf Day and Wolf Ye, to the Beast Prison before abandoning them completely.

It made Little Xian think that all mothers in the world were terrible, capable of easily abandoning their Beast Husbands and cubs.

Which meant they couldn’t rule out the possibility that this female right in front of them had sold her own little mermaid cub!
