Chapter 94: Big Bro Huo Jun and Little Fu
On the cliffs of the Eastern Coast stood a vast expanse of lush, towering trees.
Tree hollows had formed naturally within their massive trunks.
A few eight- and nine-year-old Eagle hatchlings slipped inside one of these inconspicuous hollows.
"This is that blind Huo Jun’s hollow."
"He’s blind, isn’t he? Let’s leave some stones for him to trip on. It’ll serve him right when he takes a nasty fall."
"Yeah, he’s only the Lord’s son, that’s all. Why isn’t our mother good to us, but dotes on him instead?!"
Huo Jun, 6 years old, a descendant of the High Mountain Fire Red Eagles and the only son of the Clan Leader, Chi Xiao.
The mother of these Eagle hatchlings was Ying Meng, who was considered a beautiful female in the High Mountain Territory.
Ying Meng ignored her own children, but was always bringing Huo Jun food and drinks.
The little Eagle hatchlings had long been resentful.
’He’s just a blind Eagle Beastman, isn’t he? He’s blind and can’t even fly. What’s so special about him?’
With this in mind, the Eagle hatchlings deliberately moved several stones and placed them in Huo Jun’s hollow.
’That Eagle hatchling can’t see. These stones will be more than enough to make him take a nasty fall.’
Just as they finished placing the stones, one of the Eagle hatchlings said, "Look, what’s this?"
"Why is there such a big wooden barrel here? What is Huo Jun doing with a barrel this big in his hollow?"
"It’s covered with straw on top. Quick, come over and help me move it aside!"
Little Fu hid inside the wooden barrel, her small hands clamped over her mouth. The little one was wracked with nerves.
Just as the Eagle hatchlings were about to lift the barrel’s lid, an icy voice rang out from behind them.
"What are you doing?"
After a flustered clatter, the Eagle hatchlings snatched their hands back. Seeing that it was only Huo Jun, they breathed a sigh of relief.
’He’s blind, so he won’t know what we were doing.’
"Ah, it’s Young Master Huo Jun. We came to bring you some meat to eat," one of the Eagle hatchlings said.
"Yeah, that’s right," the other Eagle hatchlings chimed in.
Hiding in the barrel, Little Fu fumed. ’Hmph! Bringing meat? They were obviously bullying my brother because he can’t see, probably setting up those tripping stones!’
A mask woven from Fire Feathers concealed his face. His lashes were downcast in the shadow it cast, and the boy’s expression held a composure that belied his age.
"Take the stones you put on the floor. And get out."
The Eagle hatchlings froze.
’What’s with this Eagle? He’s obviously blind and wearing a mask, so how did he know we put stones on the floor?’
"Didn’t you hear me?" Huo Jun’s voice was sharp.
The Eagle hatchlings didn’t dare to test him again. They picked up the stones from the floor and left.
"Who does he think he is? He’s just throwing his weight around because he’s the Lord’s only son."
"He’s blind and can’t even fly. What’s so great about him!"
"We’ll find a chance to teach him a proper lesson next time!"
After the Eagle hatchlings had gone, Huo Jun’s expression softened. He opened the barrel lid, and a little golden mermaid immediately surfaced for air.
"Meanies!" Little Fu tattled.
Huo Jun couldn’t help but smile. "I know. They’re very mean."
’It wasn’t just them who were mean; their mother, Ying Meng, was mean, too.’
"Were you getting stuffy in there, Fufu?"
Little Fu shook her head.
Huo Jun smiled and said, "Come out and play for a while."
He carefully lifted Little Fu out of the water.
The inner wall of the massive tree was dotted with smaller hollows. Little Fu didn’t go outside; instead, she peeked through a crack in the wall, watching the lively scene unfold.
’The Bird Beastman Tribe is so lively!’
Outside the great tree, many young and strong Bird Beastmen were gathered in a boisterous circle.
A gentle smile played on Huo Jun’s lips as he sat beside her, speaking to the little golden mermaid.
"Is it interesting to watch out there?"
"Mhm."
"My father loves to fight."
Huo Jun’s father was Chi Xiao, the Lord of the Eastern High Mountain Territory.
The birds of the Eastern High Mountains had temporarily migrated to the coast due to the climate.
All sorts of Bird Beastmen had gathered here.
There were the fierce, swift Eagle Beastmen with their excellent eyesight; the noble and pristine Crane Beastmen; the ferocious Falcon Beastmen...
And at the very pinnacle were the two Eagle Beastman brothers, Chi Xiao and Han Feng—strong, powerful, and towering over all others.
Chi Xiao was crimson from head to toe, a member of the rare and noble High Mountain Fire Red Eagle Beastman race of the High Mountain Territory.
Han Feng was covered in black plumage, Chi Xiao’s half-brother on his mother’s side, and a Black Eagle Beastman of the High Mountain Territory.
The warlike, great red Eagle Beastman, Chi Xiao, was bare-chested as he faced his half-brother, Han Feng, in a duel of titans.
The Bird Beastmen hooted and cheered in excitement.
"Go! Go, Lord Chixiao!!"
