But who on earth had cast that Earth Element Sand Shield?

Edmund Walsh, refusing to give up, ordered several more shells to be fired in quick succession. They were now only a few hundred meters from the gates of Tomorrow Base, yet they still couldn’t break through the sand shield hanging in mid-air.

"Our guests have arrived bearing such a generous gift. How should we possibly repay you?"

A female voice, one that took many by surprise, drifted from the front of Tomorrow Base.

Anselm Hughes froze.

"It’s Nina Jacobs! That’s her voice! It has to be her!"

Wyatt Holden shouted.

Who else but Nina Jacobs had such a lazy, indifferent tone?

"How... is this possible?"

Anselm Hughes simply couldn’t believe it.

"Get Felix Finch out here to talk! What’s there for a woman like you to say?"

Edmund Walsh didn’t really recognize Nina Jacobs, much less understand Anselm Hughes’s shock.

However, she seemed to have no intention of paying him any mind. Instead, she announced:

"Soldiers of Lornwood Base,

As for this farce, I’m sure you all know in your hearts who is right and who is wrong!

Today, those who stand down will be considered friends. Those who attack will be considered enemies.

Tomorrow Base will not spare a single one of its enemies!"

The moment Nina Jacobs finished speaking, the tanks at the very front immediately swerved to the sides. Their cannons were no longer aimed at Tomorrow Base, but at their own rear.

"What do you think you’re doing?!"

Edmund Walsh stared at the scene in disbelief.

’Weren’t these people supposed to be attacking Tomorrow Base with us?’

"Edmund Walsh, Stowe Lynch,"

"Never mind the others! Lead your men and charge!"

Anselm Hughes’s voice, seething with rage, crackled through the intercom.

’If Nina Jacobs escaped from Whittaker Town, it means the town’s secrets are probably exposed. I have to capture her!’

"Yes, sir!"

Edmund Walsh’s forehead was already beaded with sweat. No matter how many shells he fired, she intercepted every single one mid-flight.

The sight made everyone inside Tomorrow Base stare with wide-eyed disbelief.

’Their Base Chief actually intercepted cannon shells?!’

"Vehicles 15 through 25, ram them!"

Edmund Walsh shouted at several large trucks.

But no one followed his command.

Just then, the sounds of fighting suddenly erupted from the rear of the convoy.

Stowe Lynch then stepped out. "Valerius Lucas, it’s time."

’Valerius Lucas?’

Edmund Walsh watched in disbelief as two men jumped down from one of the vehicles.

Valerius Lucas raised a conspicuous yellow flag and shouted:

"Men! I, Valerius Lucas, have pledged my allegiance to Tomorrow Base!

I don’t want to see any of our brothers bleed today! No more of Keldorn’s sons should die for a pointless cause!

Anyone willing to follow me and Grim, get out of your vehicles now!"

"Lynch, you..."

As Lornwood Base guards poured out of their vehicles, realization finally dawned on Edmund Walsh.

’Lornwood Base has been a mess for ages. So how did they manage to mobilize the entire army?’

’Because they had all defected to Tomorrow Base together!’

In a matter of moments, eighty percent of the several thousand guards had disembarked. A few new recruits, who still didn’t understand what was happening, poked their heads out of the vehicles to watch.

"All right, Walsh. It’s time to wake up from your little dream of being a general.

This isn’t a playground for children."

The moment Stowe Lynch finished speaking, a bullet struck Edmund Walsh in the temple.

Hartley lowered his gun. As a Spiritual Element Superpower User, he had long ago mastered the art of hitting his target from any angle.

"Looks like today’s plan went pretty smoothly."

Hartley said, glancing toward the rear.

’It seemed his and Valerius Lucas’s long infiltration of Lornwood Base hadn’t been for nothing...’

Meanwhile, Anselm Hughes was glaring at the people before him, his eyes practically bursting with rage.

"What did you say? Say that again!"

Over ten minutes earlier, his group had been ambushed from behind.

Their leader was, shockingly, Nina Jacobs.

What shocked him even more was that Holly Morgan and Evander Langdon were with her. Both of them looked completely normal.

"Whittaker Town has been completely destroyed.

Mrs. White—Arcadia White—and your daughter, Julia Hughes, are all dead."

Nina Jacobs said.

"Nina Jacobs! You wouldn’t even spare a child?!"

Cecily Wells had been skeptical at first, but then Nina Jacobs shook her head.

"Regrettably, Mrs. White was eaten by Julia Hughes after she turned into a zombie.

Don’t you all remember Julia’s little ’prank’ at the villa that night?

It was your own daughter who brought the zombie virus back to Whittaker Town."

Nina Jacobs’s words struck him like a physical blow, and Anselm Hughes staggered.

"Anselm Hughes! When you led the zombies into my city, Crestfall, did you ever imagine you’d one day reap what you’ve sown?"

Watching his pained expression, Mirelle Keller felt nothing but grim satisfaction.

Redmayne Spencer and Seraphina Chase had already finished their investigation. Anselm Hughes was the one who had planned and executed the plot to lead zombies into Crestfall.

The old base chief had still been alive then, but they had tortured him until he was little more than a living husk.

And Evander Langdon was just a scapegoat.

"This can’t be happening. It can’t... I don’t believe it..."

Anselm Hughes muttered.

’Everything was going so smoothly. When did it all suddenly fall apart?’

"I’ll kill you!"

Holly Morgan’s thorny vines surged forward, eager for the kill.

"Protect General Hughes!"

Wyatt Holden yelled. Nearly four hundred members of the Shadow Legion were here. Their only option was to carve a bloody path out!

"Kill me?

Nina Jacobs, you’re impressive, I’ll give you that. But you have no idea what the gap is between you and an Intermediate Superpower User!"

At Anselm Hughes’s command, he condensed hundreds of Gold Spikes. Accompanied by a barrage of Superpowers from the Shadow Legion, they shot toward his enemies!

Several Superpowers manifested to block the attack for Nina Jacobs.

Felix Finch said, "Anselm Hughes, you have no idea how many people want you dead."

The hundred or so people who had followed Nina Jacobs here today had all lost family or friends because of Anselm Hughes.

Killing Anselm Hughes was the only thing on their minds.

"Hey, Hughes! Nina’s been an Intermediate Superpower User for a while now. You’re a real amateur if you couldn’t even see that!"

Tristan Lynch chimed in, having come along for the excitement.

Screams of agony were already erupting all around.

Deep purple thorny vines coiled tightly around the obese Julian Sutton.

Julian Sutton tried to use his Strength Element Superpower to tear the vines apart, but he found that wherever the thorns pierced him, his strength completely vanished!

"The thorns... they’re poisonous... You..."

Julian Sutton pointed at Holly Morgan.

"Everyone from Whittaker Town deserves to die!"

The long thorns plunged deeper, and in an instant, Julian Sutton was skewered through and through.

Meanwhile, Wayne Warner knocked Diana Tate to the ground with a single punch.

He stared in confusion at the blue lightning crackling around his fist, only broken from his reverie by Tristan Lynch’s envious cry:

"Mr. Warner, you awakened a Thunder Element Superpower?!"

The corner of Nina Jacobs’s mouth curved into a barely perceptible smile.

With Tomorrow Base under lockdown these past few days, Wayne Warner hadn’t had a chance to discover that he’d awakened a Thunder Element Superpower.

But watching him now, excitedly hurling Thunder Balls at the enemy Superpower Users, she could tell he was quite fond of his second Superpower.

"How is he stronger than me right after awakening it?"

Silas Crowley felt his confidence take a hit, but then he remembered Wayne Warner was an Intermediate Superpower User and felt a little better.

BANG BANG BANG!

The Gold Spikes pierced Mirelle Keller’s Ice Shield, but were stopped by a thin sand shield that appeared behind it.

"An Ice Element Superpower? How do you have an Ice Element Superpower?!"

Anselm Hughes asked in shock.

"Why don’t you guess?"

A Fire Dragon Roll, entwined with a Wind Dragon Vortex, had already engulfed several people. Nina Jacobs had no intention of answering Anselm Hughes’s question.

BANG!

A Diamond Sand Spike effortlessly pierced his Metal Shield.

"So you’ve been hiding your true strength all this time!"

Anselm Hughes snarled, his face contorted with hatred.

’The Nina Jacobs I knew before was never this strong!’

’Now, even her gaze is terrifying!’

’And she’s the Base Chief of Tomorrow Base!’
