Chapter 76: Bai Zhi Is Still Alive?
That afternoon, Bai Zhi sent the video evidence to the Female Alliance. At the same time, she anonymously delivered a copy to Han Yu’s rival, Major Yu.
She also included a brief mention of what Han Yu had done during the group hunt in Zone B.
Yun Xi’s entire standing relied on Han Yu, so confronting him directly would be a losing battle. But the enemy of an enemy is a friend. They had no quarrel with Major Yu, whom they had never met; this was simply a gift. By helping him eliminate a rival, they were simultaneously removing a threat to themselves.
If they moved against Yun Xi, it would surely provoke retaliation from Han Yu. But if he was too busy trying to save his own skin, he naturally wouldn’t have the time to deal with them.
This was the advice Hu Yan had given her when she discussed the matter with him.
Bai Zhi acted quickly, sending out the videos that same afternoon.
In truth, with Major Yu’s capabilities, it would be child’s play to find out who sent it. Bai Zhi’s decision to remain anonymous might have seemed redundant, but it was because she simply wanted to use him to deal with Han Yu. It was a win-win situation, and she didn’t need him to feel indebted to her.
Major Yu would eliminate a rival he’d long wanted gone, and Bai Zhi would eliminate her greatest threat. Without Han Yu, Yun Xi would be powerless to make any more trouble.
「Military Headquarters.」
Major Yu was in his office when he suddenly received a message from an unknown sender.
The moment he saw the video, he ordered someone to investigate the person behind the account.
When he recognized the female in the video as Han Yu’s mate, Yun Xi, his fingers began to tap thoughtfully on his desk. He frowned, especially upon reading the sender’s note reminding him of Han Yu’s other activities.
Prone to overthinking, he couldn’t help but ponder the deeper meaning behind the video and question its authenticity.
Nevertheless, he immediately ordered an investigation. If it was true, then the sender had just handed him a tremendous gift.
When the Female Alliance learned that Bai Zhi’s kidnapping had been orchestrated by another female, they took it very seriously. Minor squabbles between females were common, but an incident involving a threat to life was an exceptionally malicious act.
If they were to condone it, they feared it would only encourage other females to commit similar acts in the future.
Therefore, the moment they received the evidence, the Female Alliance paid a visit.
A representative from the Female Alliance presented their credentials, then stated with a stern expression, "We are from the Female Alliance. Based on evidence provided by the female Bai Zhi, the female Yun Xi is suspected of hiring an assassin. She needs to be taken to the Female Military Tribunal for trial."
Yun Xi’s heart sank. She had been worried ever since Hu Yan and the others recorded the evidence yesterday, but she hadn’t expected the Female Alliance to arrive so quickly. Now, she was truly panicking.
In the past, the Female Alliance had mostly turned a blind eye to minor conflicts between females. They usually only intervened if a Beast Husband was mistreating a female.
She never imagined they would come to summon her so directly and without hesitation.
After speaking, one of the representatives reached out to take her away.
Yun Xi struggled, shouting, "Don’t touch me! My Beast Husband is a Major in the military. He won’t let you get away with this if you take me!"
The representative looked troubled. "We are simply following the law. Please cooperate."
Yun Xi feigned composure. "You have no proof I did anything. On what grounds are you taking me?"
’The men she hired had told her about the Starship explosion. They were certain Bai Zhi hadn’t made it to the smaller craft. No matter where she had hidden, she must have died in the blast.’
’So, even if Hu Yan had a video, she wasn’t afraid. She could still turn this around.’
The representative replied, "Rest assured, we would never falsely accuse a female. Please cooperate. Otherwise, we will be forced to use physical means."
Yun Xi noticed onlookers gathering. To avoid drawing more attention, she said, "Let me make a call, and then I’ll go with you."
The representatives from the Female Alliance exchanged a glance, then nodded in agreement.
Meanwhile, Major Yu had already uncovered the truth about the hunt in Zone B. As a result, Han Yu had been summoned away to answer for his actions.
Yun Xi opened her Light Computer and called Han Yu, but the call went unanswered. She tried his office line next, but again, no one picked up.
Finally, she had no choice but to call Han Yu’s adjutant.
The call was answered after a few rings.
The moment Han Yu’s adjutant answered, Yun Xi glanced at the Female Alliance members and spoke rapidly. "Adjutant Jiang, do you know what Han Yu is doing? Why isn’t he answering his phone?"
Adjutant Jiang replied, "Major Han Yu was summoned by a superior officer and hasn’t returned yet. Is there a reason you’re looking for the Major? If it’s urgent, you can tell me, and I’ll pass the message along when he gets back."
Yun Xi saw the Female Alliance members glancing her way repeatedly. She couldn’t wait for Han Yu any longer. In a low, hurried voice, she said, "Just tell him that the favor I asked for has been discovered. The Female Alliance is taking me away. Tell him to come rescue me as soon as possible."
Adjutant Jiang responded, "I will relay the message as soon as the Major is available."
After ending the call, Yun Xi took a deep breath. She walked over to the Female Alliance representatives and said calmly, "Let’s go."
With that, she turned and began to walk away, taking the lead.
Seeing this, the Female Alliance members quickly followed.
They were there to escort Yun Xi to the Female Military Tribunal, but it looked more like she was on an outing, flanked by two bodyguards.
Even under these circumstances, she refused to appear flustered.
But the occasional stares from onlookers still made her uncomfortable. She forced herself to stand tall, trying to create the impression that she was merely being taken in for questioning.
However, as she was led out of her residence, she saw Bai Zhi standing outside.
Her pupils constricted. ’It’s Bai Zhi!!’
’Bai Zhi is still alive?!’
’Shouldn’t she have died in the Starship explosion yesterday?!’
’How can she be here?!’
When Bai Zhi saw Yun Xi’s reaction, a smile touched her lips, though it didn’t reach her eyes. "I came to see you off," she said lightly, "and to let you have a good look at me. I thought you’d be so happy to know I’m alive and well. That’s why I came... because after this, you probably won’t get another chance."
The color drained from Yun Xi’s face. ’I don’t want to see you,’ she thought, ’Not at all!’
Her expression twisted as she asked in a strained voice, "What are you doing here?"
Seeing the ugly look on Yun Xi’s face, Bai Zhi’s smile widened. "You want to ask how I escaped, don’t you?"
She tilted her head. "I’ll tell you... if you ever get out."
Then, one of the Female Alliance members urged, "Let’s go."
Yun Xi’s gaze remained locked on her, a storm brewing in her eyes. Even as she was pushed forward, her eyes never left Bai Zhi.
’She kept asking herself the same questions over and over: How is Bai Zhi alive?! How in the world did she survive the Starship explosion?!’
But there was no one to give her an answer.
