Zhou Jingliang’s expression turned grim as he read the chat history.

Anyone with a brain could see there was something wrong with those messages.

Lin Jiang didn’t care about the messy details. Beating around the bush wasn’t his style.

"Believe it or not, if I give her a little signal, I can get her to meet up."

"You really don’t give a damn if I live or die, do you? You don’t care if I can handle it."

Lin Jiang chugged some beer and let out a burp.

"We’re two of a kind. Even though you’re being a bit of a simp right now, I believe you’re still a player at heart. There’s nothing you can’t handle."

"I know her a little. It’s unlikely she’d do something like this just because you’re good-looking."

"The fuck? Are you dissing my looks and charisma?"

"It has nothing to do with looks or charisma. It’s just that men and women are different. As long as a guy isn’t too ugly, once a woman broadens her horizons, she can hook up with anyone," Zhou Jingliang said.

"She must have a motive, right?"

"The noodle shop’s recipe."

"That’s the only possibility," Zhou Jingliang said.

"You can’t give it to her. Keep that thing safe."

"Don’t you worry about that. It’s not your problem. I called you over to tell you about this so you don’t act like a fool and pull that ’she’s the only one for me’ bullshit."

"Fuck, do I look like that kind of guy to you?"

"A little."

"Shit."

Lin Jiang opened another beer and handed it to Zhou Jingliang.

"Find a chance to quit that shitty-ass job. I’m planning to go after them soon, so there’s no future for you there."

"Go after them?"

"Conflict of interest. They don’t like me either. I’ve already started preparing."

"Count me in," Zhou Jingliang said.

"The last time we fought someone together was back in high school, wasn’t it? How many years has it been?"

"It’s a goddamn ’harmonious society’ now. Let’s be a little more civilized."

Lin Jiang raised his beer and clinked it against Zhou Jingliang’s. "Go back and scrape together some money. The more, the better. I’ll give you a share in the noodle shop. I can’t promise you’ll get rich, but at the very least, you won’t have to worry about your basic needs."

"Cut the crap. I’m not doing that."

"I’m not asking you to sell your ass, for fuck’s sake. What’s the big deal?"

"Your noodle shop is so popular, anyone who gets in on it will make money. How is that any different from you just handing me cash?"

Zhou Jingliang took a sip of his beer and said, "We grew up together. I can’t just come mooching off you because you’re doing well. That’s not how it works. It would make our friendship weird."

"Damn it..." Lin Jiang scratched his head.

"When did your moral standards get so high during the years you were away?"

"I’ve always been a damn sight better than you."

"We’re six of one, half a dozen of the other. Let’s not point fingers. Just drink."

"Cheers."

Even though Zhou Jingliang was trying to be stoic about it, they had been together for over a year. After something like this, he was bound to be upset.

Lin Jiang didn’t offer any hypocritical platitudes. He just kept drinking with Zhou Jingliang until they were both blacked out.

When he opened his eyes again, the sky was already bright.

He glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already past ten.

A faint fragrance lingered on the sheets—the scent of Qin Yangyang. At this hour, she had probably gone to work.

There was a message from Qin Yangyang on his phone, reminding him to eat breakfast.

There was another one from Yang Tao, saying everything was ready.

After replying to the message, Lin Jiang groggily left his room. The dining area was already clean.

’So thoughtful.’

He went to the guest room. Zhou Jingliang was passed out like a log, facedown on the bed and completely still.

Lin Jiang ordered some breakfast and went to wash up. Halfway through, Zhou Jingliang woke up too.

"You drank one less bottle than me yesterday, didn’t you?"

"Fuck off, I drank one more than you."

"Get lost. I also had half a glass of baijiu."

"So did I, dammit."

After bickering back and forth for a bit, Zhou Jingliang went to the guest bathroom to wash up.

By the time they finished washing up, the breakfast had arrived.

"So when are you planning to have the showdown?" Lin Jiang asked while they were eating.

"Why have a showdown? It’s not costing me anything. I’ll just keep sleeping with her."

"You bastard. I knew you were a piece of work. Good thing I’ve managed to emerge from the mud unstained all these years and maintain my pure heart."

"Oh, give me a break. It’s the pot calling the kettle black," Zhou Jingliang said between bites.

"What about you? You have so many girlfriends. Who do you actually want to be with?"

"I don’t know either. Why don’t you help me choose?"

"If I had to pick, I’d say Qin Yangyang from yesterday."

"You’ve only met three of them, what the hell kind of advice can you give? Wait until you’ve met them all."

Zhou Jingliang: ???

’That was just a fraction of them?’

"Right, what are you going to do about Zhang Jingjing?"

"You don’t need to do a thing. I’ll handle it."

"Alright."

After breakfast, the two went their separate ways. Zhou Jingliang went to quit his job, and Lin Jiang headed to his company. Neither of them was idle.

After holding a meeting with his staff, Lin Jiang returned to his office.

He Siyao quietly followed him in.

[Pet No. 2: He Siyao]

[Hunger Level: 5%]

[Status: Excellent]

Although she didn’t get hungry as fast as He Jing, she still needed to be fed promptly.

After all, He Siyao’s effect was a tangible 4-millimeter increase.

In terms of practical effects, it was much better than an acceleration boost.

Lin Jiang lay down on the bed and rested his legs on He Siyao’s lap, comfortably enjoying her massage.

BZZZ BZZZ BZZZ—

Just then, Lin Jiang’s phone buzzed. It was a message from Zhang Jingjing.

Zhang Jingjing: "Liangliang told me you guys drank a lot last night. Do you have a headache?"

Zhang Jingjing: "Don’t drink so much with him next time. It’s bad for you."

Zhang Jingjing: "I have so much work again today. It’s so busy and tiring. I really don’t want to do this anymore."
