Age of Adepts

Chapter 0856 - The Forest Lodge

The Black Forest.

This is a black forest that has yet to be fully explored.

Tall, upright old trees stand one after the other, shading the forest with their luxuriant branches and leaves.

The pitch-black soil is rarely manteled and draped with dense fungus and wild moss, but of course it's more of a forest of thorny bushes and randomly climbing magical vines.

No matter what time of day it was, a faint layer of blackness lingered in the forest, dressing the place up like a magical jungle.

In this strange land that outsiders could not easily venture into, a humble forest hut appeared out of nowhere, so out of place with the surrounding environment.

With a creak, a beautiful woman in green robes and a lithe physique walked out of it, holding a bizarre staff decorated with exquisite patterns in her hand.

An impossibly soft waist, a tall and graceful beautiful figure, a heart-stoppingly delicate face, light green strange long hair, and long, thumping ears sticking out from her temples....

Surprisingly, this beautiful woman turned out to be a forest elf from a different world.

As she pushed open the wooden door and stood in the small clearing in front of the hut, looking around at the deep, dark forest, Melinda was filled with fear and despair.

This forest hut was her prison, and this ugly black forest was the prison where she was being held.

Whenever it was late at night, all kinds of strange beasts and demons roared. Even if she was hiding inside the hut, Melinda's keen sense of hearing could detect the movement of groups of demons wandering around the hut.

If it wasn't for the strange circle of enchanted plants on the outside of the hut that blocked the demons' footsteps, she would have been torn to pieces and swallowed by the ferocious and terrifying group of demons.

The range circled by the demonic plant was only 50 meters square, and her range of movement was only limited to within that 50. Once she stepped out of the range of the forest hut, she would also have to face the various strange and ferocious demons of the Black Forest.

Melinda really couldn't think of a day when she, as a forest elf, would also be trapped in a forest.

The first day she was imprisoned here, she tried to strike up a conversation with the plants here.

Unfortunately, every ancient tree, every weed here, fed back to her with a thirst for flesh and blood, a twisted sense of near madness.

If the magical forest of the Faun's Plane was a bunch of vegetarians, then the Black Forest of the Wizard World was a terrifying carnivorous ferocious beast. Not to mention the beasts and demons here, even the flowers and plants within were filled with a hostile and terrifying atmosphere of tyranny.

In this kind of black forest which is filled with danger, death and killing everywhere, the Forest Elf, who is known as the son of the forest, could not even walk an inch. Even if that horrible demon didn't put any chains or shackles on Melinda, she had no way to escape here, so she could only stay in the hut and take care of the strange 'moon well' for the other side.

Yes, by some unknown means, that dreadful demon had actually planted a moon well in front of the forest hut, and Melinda's mission in existence was to look after and urge the moon well to grow up.

Whenever the night falls and the full moon is high in the sky, a ray of quiet and elegant moonlight will come down from above the forest hut, shining straight down on that strange moon well. And every time at this time, if Melinda knelt down in front of the moon well and prayed faithfully, her spiritual consciousness would vaguely return to the magical forest that was filled with a dreamy atmosphere.

The familiar scent of earth, the familiar scent of grass and trees, the flower spirits flapping their wings as they traveled through the forest, all the ancient vegetation swaying, greeting her kindly with the help of the melodious and gentle breeze....

In the distance, you could even hear the crisp and clear call of your companion....

It was also the only time of day when Melinda was happiest!

During the time when this Moon Well was first planted, the strange roots that were wrapped around it apparently didn't adapt to the environment and soil here, and all began to wither and wither, thanks to Melinda's tireless use of 'rejuvenation', 'purifying the earth', and It took natural spells like 'plant growth' to bring it back to life.

It took a small half a year before the moon well was barely able to adapt to the environment here, once again plunging its roots deep into the soil and drawing completely different magical powers from the earth. And only after another half a year of recovery and nourishment did this one-meter deep, half-meter in diameter moon well gather a pool of clear, shallow, turquoise moon water at the bottom of the well.

Melinda had also secretly tasted a mouthful.

Just that one bite almost burned her belly, and if she hadn't treated herself in time, Melinda would have died under this otherworldly version of the moon water.

Melinda was only a 1st rank Forest Elf Priest.

With her knowledge and learning, she was obviously unable to parse out the true reason why the water of the Moonwell had occurred so violently.

Originally she had feared that the demon would abandon the place because of the mutation of the Water of the Moonwell. Melinda would then also have to return to that dreadful tower of witches and be imprisoned in the darkness of a dark prison, or be seen by one of the witches to become one of those loathsome blood elves or subjects of experimentation.

There were hundreds of forest elves who had been swept here with her by the witches, but there were few companions left who were still able to keep their pure faith and pure, beautiful hearts after the wear and tear of this time.

If Melinda hadn't been chosen by that terrifying demon because of her identity as a priest, she might not have escaped the same fate as her companions.

And that demon... demon... was actually a young man who was quite handsome and full of evil, wisdom and power. If one did not consider the identities and camps of both parties, in fact... the other party was also actually a spouse that could make one's heart throb with choice.

Unfortunately... the identities, status, camps, and beliefs of both sides were completely different, which also filled Melinda's heart with regret and sorrow!

It's that time again when the night is low and the full moon is high, and that demon will be here soon....

In a bit of panic Melinda quickly walked to the corner of the clearing in front of the house, where a strange wooden well appeared.

The well was wooden, about half a meter above the ground, with a turquoise vine and flowering branches wrapped around its rim. They didn't grow independently, but were embedded within the wood grain of the well, slightly convex, lifelike and fresh.

As if sensing Melinda's approach, the vines and flowering branches on the wall of the moon well became active. A few budding flower buds also bloomed their stamens, and an overwhelming fragrance filled the surroundings, making this quiet, dark forest warm and peaceful for the first time.

Melinda gently knelt down in front of the moon well, holding the nature staff in one hand and caressing the edge of the well with the other, silently murmuring and repeatedly chanting verses and prayers in praise of the Moon God.

At some point, a ray of pure and elegant moonlight penetrated down from the forest treetops and landed within the mouth of the Moon Well.

With Melinda's devout prayers and constant eulogies of praise, a strange and mysterious power wandered around inside the moon well, and a beautiful glow on the wall of the well began to flow. If one looked at it with fixed attention, these beautiful glowing lights were actually a combination of tiny and microscopic strange runes.

A dense force of nature spread out, part of it stimulating the moon well's roots to continue growing, part of it dispersed into the soil and air, changing the fine surroundings, and part of it gathered within the moon well, condensing into a drop of green liquid filled with strange magic....

However, while Melinda was in some kind of special meditation and vision, a huge flame rose up in a sandstone clearing in the corner of the forest hut.

The flames came and went as quickly as they came.

When the flame burst, it did not damage the surrounding plants, nor did it even disturb the Elf Priestess who was still in a daze.

After the flames subsided, Grim's tall, heroic figure was revealed.

This forest hut was one of the sorcery experiments he had set up to verify the magic of the Moonwell, an elven magic facility.

Judging from the results so far, only this place had been successful, and the other two places had failed one after another.

Of course, the reasons for failure were varied, the most suspicious being the priestly identity Melinda possessed.

After all, there was only this one elven priestess that had returned from captivity, and the other two places one was being taken care of by an elven mage and the other by a druid. They also possessed natural spells similar to Melinda's, but unfortunately let the moon well wither away little by little.

Of course, Melinda's test site couldn't be considered a complete success either!

After Grim's investigation and sampling, the nature of the moon water born here and the moon water taken from the Faun's Plane were surprisingly completely different.

According to the chip's analysis, the magic concentration of the new moon water was even 230% higher than that of the Fain moon water.

This means that if any sorcerer swallowed the New Moon Water, their body's elemental balance would be disturbed by the overly concentrated magical breath, resulting in their magical power running riot.

Not only was the Crescent Water not a life-saving holy water, it had instead become a murderous poison!

However, according to the special properties of the New Moon Water, if a special process was taken to refine and dry it, a strange magical essence could be obtained.

This kind of magic essence was a powdered magical essence, a very precious magical material in high level alchemy, and could give high level magic items the special attribute of automatically returning to magic.

Inside the Wizard World's high level market, each gram of magic essence could be sold for an astronomical price of 700 magic crystals.

According to the moon well's moon water production rate, it was able to extract about 50 grams of magic essence every month.

Of course, with the chip's testing and data deduction, it gave Grim a new way of thinking.

If the process could be improved and the magic essence powder could be refined and sublimated again to become a powerful magic essence, it could even allow some ordinary people who did not have magical talent to possess magic power and take the path of a sorcerer from then on.

This, in fact, was what Grim valued most!
